the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart
Chapter 1520 - 1507: First Movie Date
There were quite a few New Year films released on the first day of the year. The one starring Chloe Winston wasn’t technically a New Year film; it was a nostalgic, youthful film, slated for release on the first day to capitalize on nostalgia.
Unexpectedly, the film became a hit, more popular than initially anticipated, overshadowing the New Year comedies shot by industry bigwigs.
Constantine Stewart drove to a mall under his management and booked a couple’s theater. He didn’t notify the staff and simply took the tickets, waiting in the lounge.
The man reached out and pulled her fluffy hat down a bit, covering half of her pretty face, then leaned in and chuckled softly, "If we get recognized, we’ll run, okay?"
Chloe couldn’t help but laugh when she saw a hint of excitement in his eyes. She couldn’t picture Constantine Stewart dragging her along in a sprint; this man was always so concerned about saving face. Even in front of her, he maintained that damned elegance. Running wildly? Impossible.
"Your face attracts more attention than mine." Chloe thought for a moment, then tiptoed lightly to whisper in his ear. While he was busy covering her face, Constantine Stewart didn’t consider that he was also famous from a popular show and had a slew of fangirls now. Chloe had already noticed girls around them glancing over and whispering.
The girl’s soft and sweet breath whispered into his ear, and Constantine felt a gentle tingle, remembering the comforting rain after a long drought last night. His gaze darkened slightly, and with nothing scheduled for the next day, they could stay indoors, closed off, for a day and a night.
The man pondered that having a baby was a serious matter. He hadn’t been fully satisfied for over a year, and after being hungry for so long, it was time to replenish properly.
Constantine pulled up his turtleneck cashmere sweater a little to cover his sexy jaw and said in a deep voice, "Then should we get closer so others would feel too embarrassed to look at us?"
Chloe: "..."
The rogue nature never changed!! Luckily, the movie started soon, and the two blended into the crowd, queuing up to enter.
Constantine wanted to share the experience of a regular couple watching a movie with Chloe, so he didn’t book the whole theater but bought a few more tickets, four in total, around them to create more space and avoid disturbances.
The man still wasn’t fond of crowded places.
"First time watching a movie in a cinema? So excited?" Constantine noticed her sitting upright like a primary school student, then reached out to tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear, his voice low and hoarse, pressed very low.
Chloe shook her head and said, "Second time."
The first time she watched her debut film "When You’re Lonely, Who Will You Miss." That was the first time she entered a cinema. Before fifteen, she was a child who only knew how to study and work hard to save pocket money and college tuition, mostly wearing school uniforms or clothes made by the welfare home to which she belonged. It was enough to keep her warm and fed, but whenever she had a bit of money, she only wanted to eat better, never touching movies or malls. If she wanted to watch a movie, she just went to the neighborhood next to the welfare home, where they projected films on summer nights.
That was the thing welfare home kids looked forward to the most during summer vacation.
Later, staying with Constantine Stewart, there was a screening room in the Fulham Road villa. Constantine didn’t like lively environments and never went to cinemas, so really, this was her second time in a cinema.
Hearing this, Constantine’s eyes trembled a bit, and he held her soft little hand tightly, without speaking, grasping it quite firmly.
The lights quickly dimmed, and the movie began playing.
Chloe felt a bit nervous watching herself appear on the giant screen, performing someone else’s life, which felt a bit strange.
The film’s tone was rather heavy and artistic, featuring many things unique to the 90s. The audience was mostly young people from that era; the room was silent with no one speaking.
As the plot unfolded, conflicts and contradictions arose; the fates of two young girls spiraling unpredictably, the emotional peaks hitting hard as many started crying. Chloe had a very low emotional threshold, her experiences more complex than most, and she cried to the point she couldn’t control herself.
Seeing her turn into a crying mess, Constantine felt heartbroken, for the girl in the movie and the one watching it. Yet, in public, he couldn’t do much but used the handkerchief he carried to wipe her face meticulously, only for the tears to keep coming, soaking the entire handkerchief.
Constantine’s emotional threshold was high; nostalgia represented a substantial cultural gap for him. He hadn’t experienced much of the 90s, so he primarily wanted to understand the era Chloe experienced. Seeing her crying uncontrollably, he somewhat regretted it.
If he’d known, he wouldn’t have brought her to see the movie. The film lasted one and a half hours, and Chloe cried for at least an hour. Watching her become so engrossed, Constantine restrained himself from taking her out midway through.
When they left the cinema, Chloe’s eyes were swollen, and quite a few girls were sobbing, discussing watching it a second or third time.
Seeing her in this state, Constantine’s mood was low too. Going to Shaw Family for dinner certainly meant forced smiles, so he called his grandmother, mentioning they were delayed by some matter and wouldn’t make it to dinner, subsequently taking the young girl straight to Spring Prosperity Garden.
It was only after getting home that Chloe managed to shake off the emotions of the film. Constantine brought a warm towel to soothe her eyes, sighing, "The movie was well-made, but you cried so intensely."
Chloe opened her swollen red eyes, looking at him innocently, and said hoarsely, "The first novel I ever read as a child was that story. You wouldn’t understand; it’s a part of my childhood memories."
Constantine rubbed his forehead, then tapped her head slightly, and said, "You’re only twenty-two; reading novels from the 90s? How old were you? Could you even read?"
Chloe touched her head where he tapped, sticking her tongue out playfully, "I almost forgot how young I am, Uncle Constantine."
The name "Uncle Constantine" nearly unnerved him, his gaze deepening like ink, as he pulled her slender body into his arms, his voice low and intoxicating, "Uncle Constantine? Hmm?"
Chloe’s face blushed at the memory of him making her call him uncle or brother in his playful mischief. Pretend all you want, he loved it when she called him uncle most!
"I’m hungry." She changed the topic pitifully, her small hand clutching his clothes.
Mr. Constantine saw her lovely demeanor, hungry and cute, like a little dog begging for food, red eyes, white skin, irresistibly cute. His tall frame leaned down, eyes dark and hoarse, saying, "My service comes at a high cost, can you afford it?"
