Chapter 40: 40 P3, The Strength of Two Apocalypse Knights

She then pulled with all her strength. The body was dragged into the sand as the enemy tried to dig his hands into the ground.

He failed.

Finally, the scarabs consumed the remainder of his strength, and his body became motionless.

Only then did Nefrava release the bandages. The corpse remained partially buried, but she had no time to rest.

Another group was advancing rapidly in her direction.

Ten, fifteen, more.

Nefrava looked at the crowd. Valeria also looked in the same direction. The battlefield no longer looked the same.

Tents had been destroyed, campfires were scattered across the ground, causing small fires in the humid forest.

The ground was covered in blood. Trees bore deep marks from swords and axes, while Nefrava’s sand had taken over part of the clearing.

Dozens of bodies lay scattered across the ground, but there were still enemies. Many enemies.

Yun Che observed everything from a distance.

Kael, the Revenant, kept his arms crossed.

"They are being pressured by their numbers."

Eryon, the Lich, analyzed the battle through the dark-blue flames in his eye sockets.

"Yes, master. Their opponents are individually inferior, but their numbers allow them to continuously replace wounded combatants."

Morcant, the Soul Devourer, remained silent for several seconds before speaking.

"Furthermore, the survivors are learning from the dead."

Yun Che nodded.

"They overwhelmed their opponents because of their overall cultivation level and never considered their numbers."

"You must learn from this mistake."

The three nodded silently.

That was exactly what he wanted to observe: the strength of the two and their ability to fight when the situation ceased to be favorable. And if someone truly powerful was lurking nearby, they might reveal themselves now.

In the clearing, Valeria slowly wiped the blood running down her arm. Around her, dozens of enemies were preparing another advance.

She looked at Nefrava.

"Nefrava."

The Mummy turned toward her.

"Yes?"

Valeria smiled.

"I believe we have made them confident enough."

Nefrava understood. The two advanced at the same time. Nefrava opened her arms, causing the sand throughout the entire clearing to begin rising.

Valeria opened her hand as well. All the blood spilled during the battle began to move.

The ground became a sea of sand and blood. The enemies stopped, realizing that they had made a mistake.

By allowing the battle to continue for so long, they had given the two exactly the resources they needed. The sand concealed their feet.

The blood began climbing up their legs, and their formations instantly broke apart.

"RETREAT! Everyone, run for your lives!"

The shout came too late. Nefrava launched her bandages at the same time that Valeria transformed the blood into dozens of blades.

The two advanced in perfect synchronization, one restraining the enemies while the other pierced them.

One knocked them down while the other cut them apart. Whenever an enemy tried to escape the sand, bats descended upon him.

Whenever they tried to protect themselves from the blood blades, the bandages pulled them out of formation.

The Tempered Body warriors began falling one after another. The few remaining Elementary Profound warriors were forced to fight together.

One of them blocked three blood blades. Another passed through his defense, and he barely managed to deflect it. However, Nefrava appeared behind him.

A bandage wrapped around his waist. Valeria noticed the opening, and her blood blade pierced through the warrior’s chest.

He did not die immediately.

He tried to attack Valeria, but she dodged. When Nefrava pulled him, the warrior was violently thrown to the ground.

Sand covered his body, and only after several seconds did his resistance finally cease.

The last Elementary Profound warrior looked around. His companions were dead or incapable of continuing.

He breathed heavily. His arm was bleeding, his leg was injured, and his formation had been destroyed.

Even so, he raised his sword.

Valeria, the Vampire, slowly walked toward him. Nefrava, the Mummy, remained beside her.

The warrior clenched his teeth and attacked. Valeria dodged the first strike, while Nefrava restrained his sword with a bandage.

He pulled.

At the same time, Valeria advanced. A blood blade pierced through his defense and penetrated his chest.

The Beastman remained standing for several seconds before finally falling dead.

Silence.

Only the crackling of the destroyed campfires remained in the clearing. Valeria withdrew the blood blade from the corpse, while Nefrava allowed her bandages to slowly return to her body.

The two remained motionless for several seconds. They had won, but they had not emerged unscathed.

Valeria’s clothes were torn in several places, with cuts across her arms and abdomen.

Nefrava had several destroyed bandages and marks from impacts across her body. Around them, the camp had been completely reduced to ruins.

Yun Che finally descended from the elevated ground. Eryon, the Lich, Kael, the Revenant, and Morcant, the Soul Devourer, followed him.

Valeria and Nefrava remained before him. Yun Che first looked at the bodies and then at the two women.

His gaze became thoughtful. The battle had demonstrated something important. It was not merely a matter of power. Numbers truly mattered.

When facing weaker enemies in small numbers, the two could destroy them easily.

But when dozens of opponents attacked simultaneously, even Tempered Body warriors could create difficulties.

And the Elementary Profound combatants were different. Each one required attention; otherwise, they could injure them.

Each had to be eliminated through an appropriate combination of abilities.

Fortunately, what concerned him most had not occurred. No one from a cultivation realm above his own had appeared.

Yun Che finally spoke after organizing his thoughts.

"Now I understand better how you fight. You could have done better if you hadn’t underestimated your enemies, but as expected, you won in the end, and that is what matters."

Valeria slightly bowed her head.

"We are pleased to have lived up to our master’s expectations."

Nefrava did the same.

"We hope our performance was worthy of your appreciation. We promise to do better in the future."

Yun Che looked at the destroyed clearing once again before turning his eyes back to the two.

"It was a good demonstration, especially your coordination. You combined your abilities well."

His expression became more serious.

"But now we know something else."

The two waited as Yun Che continued:

"The greater the number of enemies, the more important your cooperation will become."

Valeria and Nefrava exchanged a glance before answering simultaneously:

"We understand, master."

Yun Che turned toward the large tent where the Medusas were being held.

The battle was over, but this was only the beginning of his investigation into the Ancient Flower Secret Realm.
