We listened to Miss Selena and nodded. She’s right. We need to focus on our current problems now without thinking about future problems all the time.

It’s good to be prepared in advance for future problems, but if you ignore the current problems you don’t even have the chance to face the future ones.

We looked at her. "Thank you, Miss Selena, for the advice and the information."

She nodded with a smile and said, "Those things you could listen to later in my classroom, but I have a feeling you two will leave the academy before getting to know them. That’s why I decided to tell you."

We smiled at that, and she said, "Okay then. Good luck on your 3rd floor. Goodbye, students."

I smiled at that and said, "Okay. If you want to kick us out this quickly, just say so."

Miss Selena looked at me with amusement. "Okay, okay, Student Asher. I want to kick you out." She smirked.

My eyes twitched. She didn’t hesitate to fire back at me.

Then I waved at her. "Then I’ll take my leave. Bye, Miss Selena."

She once again smiled and said goodbye.

And we exited the room, and I went with Nyx to the portal room for the tower.

And as soon as I saw the portal I smiled, and Nyx saw that and glared at me. "Don’t you even think about it, Asher. I warned you."

I looked at her with an innocent look and asked, "What are you talking about, Nyx? What am I supposed to do?"

She looked at how shamelessly I acted and said, "You know exactly what I’m talking about."

Then, before I could do anything, she pushed me into the portal.

Before I even had time to respond to her, I went into the portal.

She smiled at the sight that even while I was thrown into the portal I still complained about the past.

And she entered as well and saw me searching for her, and as soon as I found her I looked at her for a reaction but got none.

I don’t feel a thing when I get thrown into it, but I looked at her like she betrayed me.

But she saw through it immediately and said, "Okay, okay. Don’t act dumb. Let’s go to the tower."

I grinned, raised my hand, and said, "Alright, alright. Let’s go."

Then I went to the tower interface.

[Welcome back to the Tower of Ascension]

[Do you wish to enter the 3rd floor of the tower?]

[Yes / No]

I pressed the Yes button, and I got to choose.

[Do you wish to enter solo, duos, or squad?]

I pressed duo, found Nyx’s name at the top, pressed it, and entered Yes.

As soon as I did that, a portal opened and dragged us into it.

While in the darkness I thought about what kind of mission we would receive this time.

I could only see darkness for a few seconds, and then I could see again. I saw Nyx beside me, so I looked around with observant eyes and observed everything around me.

It’s a village, and a notification appeared.

I looked at Nyx and nodded. "At least this time this damn tower didn’t give us a mission we have to be detectives to solve. If this is one as well, I plan to buy a shovel and go to Sherlock Holmes’s grave and dig him up and use some black magic and resurrect him and bring him to solve these damn things."

Nyx laughed at that and said, "Okay. Let’s go and take a look at the situation and determine what kind of enemies we’re facing."

I nodded and followed her as she went to the adventurer guild to take a look at it.

This village is completely different from the last one. Knights are roaming around the village.

And we soon found our way into the adventurer guild. Then I took the lead, went to the counter, and gave my adventurer card.

"Hello. I heard news about a monster invasion or something. I’m here to help."

She took the card, nodded, and said, "Yes, sir. It’s not exactly a monster invasion. It’s a demon invasion with monsters. Are you sure you want to participate? We really appreciate it if you do, but fair warning: you can lose your life on the mission, so be careful."

I nodded. "Thank you for the warning."

"The whole point of adventuring is we don’t know when we lose our life, so it’s a common thing now."

She smiled and nodded. "That’s true, sir. Then I presume your partner is joining for defending the village."

I looked at Nyx, then looked at the receptionist, and nodded. "Yes. She is joining as well."

She looked at Nyx and asked, "May I have your adventurer ID as well, miss? I need to register you two for the mission."

She nodded, took out her adventurer ID, and gave it to her.

She took it, looked at the information on the adventurer ID, filled out something on her side, gave us the adventurer IDs back, and told us, "You two are successfully registered as participants for this, and we thank you for participating in this mission to save the village."

"You can go to the village border and meet with the others, and if you want any supplies you can also ask from them."

"Then good luck to both of you."

I nodded, looked at Nyx, and asked, "Do you need to know anything else?"

She just shook her head and refused, so we thanked the receptionist and left the adventurer hall. This time not many people were in here.

I think it’s because all of them went for this mission. It seems lots of lives are going to be lost today.

Then we headed to the border of the village, and we asked for directions from the knights in the village.

After we told them the reason and showed our IDs, they were more than willing to show us the way and even wished us good luck.

We smiled, nodded, and left.

I turned to Nyx and asked, "Hey, Nyx, do you know anything about these demons?"

"Even Miss Selena mentioned them to us, that they are not friendly."

Nyx shook her head and replied, "I don’t know either. I only know the information you already know, but we can see them on the battlefield."

"I know if we have more information it’s good for us, but if we go and ask about demons from these villagers they might get suspicious of us."

"It seems demons are normal in this country, and it seems all of them know them. If we pose the question we become the strange party, and they might even suspect us of something and draw unnecessary problems."

I nodded at that. "Yeah. What if they think you are an evil witch and burn you?"

I chuckled while covering my mouth. My shoulders shook.

She glared at me and hit me. "Before that they would surely burn you because of your mouth."

I didn’t say anything, but I still chuckled at the possibility of Nyx’s identity as a witch.

She looked at me with annoyance. "You only know how to be annoying."

I smiled. "Oh, thank you for the compliment."

She just sighed. "You are hopeless."

And we finally came to the location the adventurer guild told us about and saw many people here for the demon invasion to defend the village.

So we went and found a normal position and waited, and I saw another person nearby and asked about the information.

He looked at us and asked, "You two came to participate too? But you two look so young."

I nodded. "Yeah, but we too decided to help as much as we can."

He nodded. "That’s true. This is the moment everyone should gather and help out."

I nodded and said, "Yeah. If those demons invade, what’s the point of hiding in there? We’re all going to die."

He nodded. "That’s the exact point. If you have the ability to help defend the village, you should help out."

We chatted for a while, and I said, "Aaa, those demons are so annoying to deal with, right?"

I gave him a general question so I can get information without drawing attention.

He nodded and said, "Yeah. Those bastards use dark magic and they are so annoying to deal with. And if some high-ranking one comes, we are all doomed. Let’s just hope not a high-rank one comes this time."

I nodded along and digested the information. Demons use dark magic mostly, and they too have ranks, high and low.

I look at nyx and we nodded to each other.
