Chapter 40: Chapter 40 - conversion with miss selena before the tower

After a long shower I went out, put on a clean pair of clothes, went to the mirror, and looked at my great self.

"Striking blue eyes, jet-black hair, and a healthy complexion."

"I’m the best."

Then I fixed my messy hair and got ready, and after a few moments I was finally satisfied and decided to leave the room.

And I finally went out from my room and approached Nyx’s room, and after about 10 minutes she finally came out, clad in her uniform, elegant and clean.

I waved at her, and she looked at me and came to my side. "Did you wait long?"

I waved my head and said, "No, not long. It’s only about 10 minutes."

She smiled and asked, "So what are we going to do? Go to the cafeteria?"

I looked at her, blinked a few times, went into a deep thought, and said, "Unfortunately, yes. There’s no place to go inside the academy, and if we want to leave the academy we need permission, so let’s just go to the cafeteria."

I said it with a little low mood, because this is considered my first date and I brought her to the cafeteria. I’m not the least bit embarrassed about it. I know if she just refuses because of this, then this date is better to have never happened.

But the only problem is I want to give something special as for the first date. Oh, fuck that. As long as she doesn’t just disappear, I’ll just do something in the future.

So I just gave her a bright smile and exaggeratedly showed her the way.

She looked at that, and a warm smile appeared on her face, and she nodded, and we walked together to the cafeteria.

On the way I made small talk with her and made terrible jokes that made Nyx laugh anyway.

And finally we arrived at the cafeteria and looked at the surroundings. Not many people were in here, so we went to the waiting line, waited for our turn, got two plates, and began to pick food for ourselves.

I saw there was a big chicken leg still there. I immediately took it, thought for a moment, and with a wounded heart I put it on Nyx’s plate, because I saw her eyes move to the exact same thing as me.

I convinced myself this is a one-time thing, then I’ll rob her as usual.

Nyx saw my internal conflict, covered her mouth, and laughed lightly.

I just filled my plate as usual and saw dessert, so I picked a pudding and placed it on the side as well.

Nyx saw that, and she too decided to take one, and after that I paid. My heart clenched at my points.

Then we went to find a place and sat down, and I started a conversation about the tower.

"So we’re going to clear the 3rd floor next week."

She nodded and said, "Yeah, that’s the plan."

Then she added, "We trained a lot, but we can only get little improvement from it. We need to go hunt monsters, or else we can only get minimum improvements."

I nodded as well. "That’s true. A week is enough to get used to our new power-up."

Then we ate our dinner while talking about it and what we’re going to do in the future.

We made plans to train together for the next few days so we have more coordination when fighting together and can understand each other’s combat style more effectively.

Then after that I don’t have any plans for the date. This became a normal night after all, and it made me a little sad, but I didn’t take it to heart.

And finally we arrived at Nyx’s room door, and I waved at her and said, "Good night, Nyx."

She smiled as well and greeted me back. "Good night, Asher."

Then I returned to my room and went into a deep sleep while thinking about today’s events. An involuntary smile appeared on my face, and I fell into a deep sleep.

And the next few days went by before we knew it. We went to class as usual, and after that Nyx and I trained.

I practiced my daggers and bow as well in the free time. I can’t abandon them. Who knows when I need them.

As for training with Nyx, I trained my aura, like how to augment myself fully, what is the most effective way to augment my sword,

what is the most destructive when used, how to combine my aura and element, things like that.

It’s so much fun and exciting to experiment with them one by one.

And the day finally came for us to face the 3rd floor of the tower. I can’t think of what it’s going to be this time.

As usual we went to meet Miss Selena. I knocked on the door, and she gave us permission to enter the room, so we entered.

So I entered the room with Nyx, and she saw us, put away her paperwork, smiled, and asked, "Let me guess. You want to take her on a date, so you came to ask for leave."

My eyes twitched. She always jokes about that in class, so I coughed and said, "Unfortunately, today I came for a different matter. I need that in the future."

Miss Selena’s smile widened. "Oh, brat. You finally got together."

Nyx glared at me, so I raised my hand and said, "Ahh, about that. Not yet."

Then I put on a confident face and stated, "But don’t worry. It won’t be that much longer."

Nyx hit me on the back, and Miss Selena asked, "So what’s the reason you remembered to come see me?"

I immediately got into the topic and replied, "Ah, about that. We decided to enter the 3rd floor of the Tower of Ascension, so we came to ask for permission."

She studied us, a little surprised, and asked, "Didn’t you two enter the 2nd floor last week?"

We nodded and said, "Yeah, but we felt like normal training won’t do much anymore, so we decided to ascend the tower and get stronger."

She looked at us deeply and said, "Hm. That’s true. You two are a special case. You two are extremely talented and need real combat experience to grow. But don’t overestimate yourselves. The tower is a very dangerous place."

"It only costs one mistake to lose your life."

We nodded, and I asked Miss Selena, "Miss Selena, you said in class after the 10th floor we can live in the tower. Can you tell me about it a little more?"

She raised an eyebrow and asked, "Oh, you got interested in that? Why is that?"

I just said, "Ah, our 2nd-floor mission was to save some children, and that world is completely different and a real one, so I thought about the thing that we can live in the tower in the future. What’s it going to be like?"

She smiled and nodded. "Oh, you were sent into one of the realms."

"Okay, listen. This is the story. Once you ascend to floor 10, you can meet others."

Nyx and I both asked at the same time, "Others?"

She smiled at that. "Oh, why the surprise look? Do you really think that tower is something exclusive to us?"

"If you think that, the answer is no."

"It exists in every realm. We don’t know how it works either, but there are many races out there, and they compete in the tower to get powerful as well."

"Don’t assume all of them are enemies. They come for their own problems and to get strong."

"But some of the races purely come for conflict and to conquer all. They won’t tolerate any other race that didn’t submit to them."

"So they cause trouble and try to kill you guys, and on higher floors there are many things like factions, alliances, and more."

We listened to her and digested the new information.

Then she continued. "So yeah, when you pass floor 10, you can live on floors that other races live on. Some of them find a peaceful floor and settle down, and some keep climbing the tower."

Then I asked, "So what about the barrier you mentioned that protects our world?"

She just sighed and said, "It came with the tower too. It protected us from those monsters. If it’s not in place, those alien monsters and other races would invade and try to conquer us as well."

"It’s empowered by the tower, and when people conquer tower floors that barrier gets stronger. So that’s the main reason this academy started. Not some charity reason. For the survival of our race."

We listened to her and understood the gravity of the situation we are in.

Then she smiled and said "You two don’t worrying about things way above your pay grade. Focus on gating stronger first."
