The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend
Chapter 1095 - Colossal Centipede
The centipede struggled on the ground for a long while after the combined dragon breath struck it, but it didn’t die.
Han Wu watched as the parasitic insects covering its exoskeleton secreted a transparent fluid. The moment it came in contact with the air, it hardened into a gleaming black exoskeleton. The centipede reappeared before Han Wu at full strength, its exoskeleton completely regenerated, and launched another attack.
Han Wu fired another round of combined dragon breath. This time, the breath had no effect. The newly formed black exoskeleton blocked every last trace of the attack.
The centipede seized the opening and spat an orb of emerald-green venom at Han Wu. It splashed against his iridescent Jade Scales and slid off without causing any damage.
Han Wu sensed each drop of venom that hit the ground below and discovered that every droplet could corrode through 10,000 meters of solid earth. Its destructive power was terrifying. Fortunately, his iridescent Jade Scales had exceptional resistance to debuffs.
Its first attack had failed, but the centipede didn’t stop. It closed the distance and engaged Han Wu in melee combat. Tens of thousands of razor-sharp legs slashed at him like long blades, landing blow after blow.
Han Wu’s scales were incredibly tough. Still, after absorbing over 10,000 consecutive strikes, cracks began to form. If this continued, the scales would shatter, and he would finally suffer actual damage.
Han Wu wasn’t about to give the centipede that chance. He lashed out with his dragon claws and pierced its exoskeleton. His claws were sharp enough to tear through its armor and inflict real damage.
The centipede didn’t seem to care as it crawled up Han Wu’s body. At 100,000 meters long, it wrapped around him like a massive rope and started constricting him. At the same time, it opened its jaws wide and tore into Han Wu’s body.
Han Wu had only recently gained this form and hadn’t fully adapted to it. His counterattacks came a beat too slow, so he suffered multiple wounds.
The Jade Dragon Emperor couldn’t watch any longer. It dove into the Slaughter Barrier, sank its teeth into the centipede numerous times, and effortlessly ripped the centipede in half.
“In a fight, your jaws, horns, and tail are all weapons. Use them!” the Jade Dragon Emperor instructed.
Han Wu looked at the dark green fluid oozing from the centipede’s severed body and felt his stomach turn. Biting was out of the question. Using his horns as spears, however, was something he could do.
His Defiant Dragon Emperor form had nine pairs of horns, which gave him a significant edge in close combat.
The centipede proved far more tenacious than expected. Flesh regenerated at a visible rate where its body had been severed. A new head and tail grew from each half. Soon, one centipede had become two.
Both centipedes attacked Han Wu and the Jade Dragon Emperor with equal ferocity. To make matters worse, the dragon-headed insect Han Wu had driven off earlier came back. It activated its suppression domain and caught both Han Wu and the Jade Dragon Emperor within its range.
They instantly felt their strength drain away, and neither could fully deploy their Macrocosm powers. Meanwhile, the centipedes fought as if they had been injected with stimulants.
Han Wu couldn’t break free and found himself hammered from every angle. He had no choice, so he immediately commanded his units to reinforce him. His divine realm gate flew open, and powerful auras emerged from the portal one after another. The Origin of Mutation appeared first; V followed, piloting his colossal puppet, Supreme Power; the five Mythic Titans; and his clone, Han Guang.
Against a Macrocosm opponent like the Colossal Centipede, ordinary attacks were useless. Each of Han Wu’s units fired a single Light Spirit Orb for Han Guang to absorb and convert into a concentrated blast. The resulting strike rivaled Han Wu’s combined dragon breath. It severed the centipede again, but it simply repeated its trick and multiplied once more.
From within Supreme Power, V analyzed the centipede’s data after the split. He discovered that each time the centipede divided, its individual strength dropped by roughly one percent. The decrease was small enough that neither Han Wu nor the Jade Dragon Emperor had noticed it. V then transmitted his findings to everyone.
Once alerted, Han Wu focused his senses and confirmed the discovery. With the centipede now split into three, each segment’s strength had dropped by approximately three percent. If it kept dividing, the decline would compound.
Han Wu and the Jade Dragon Emperor threw themselves into the fight with renewed vigor. They concentrated on delivering devastating blows that would force more splits. Han Wu’s units joined the assault as well.
As the attacks continued, Han Wu noticed another trait. The same type of attack couldn’t damage the centipede twice. His combined dragon breath had become useless after the first hit. The same was true for Han Guang’s Spear of Victory.
Fortunately, Han Wu had plenty of ways to attack thanks to his vast number of units. They gathered into formation and unleashed Formation Might. Each unit’s unique technique battered the centipede from a different angle and forced it to keep splitting.
Before long, the combined efforts of Han Wu, the Jade Dragon Emperor, and the units had divided the Colossal Centipede into fifty segments. Each one retained half of the original’s strength, which was no longer enough to suppress Han Wu.
Han Wu and the Jade Dragon Emperor pressed their advantage with close-range physical attacks. Every additional split cost the centipede another one percent of its power.
The centipede realized that they had discovered its secret and tried to flee. Unfortunately for it, it found that the exit was sealed. At its current strength, it couldn’t break through the Slaughter Barrier. Hence, it scattered in every direction and desperately rammed the barrier’s edges in a bid to drain Han Wu’s energy.
That plan was useless. Han Wu wasn’t fighting alone. His Microcosms continuously supplied him with energy to sustain the barrier. At the same time, forces such as slaughter, death, and war fueled his power. As long as the conflict raged, his energy was effectively limitless.
By the time the centipede had split into one hundred segments, each retained only one percent of the original’s power. They were no longer strong enough to qualify as a Subcosm fighter. Moreover, further division was no longer possible. The next lethal blow would kill them outright.
The Colossal Centipede’s arrogance vanished. Its hundred segments scattered in a hundred directions, each desperate to survive. If even one escaped, the centipede could gradually accumulate energy and rebuild its 100,000-meter body.
Han Wu had no intention of giving it that chance. His units fanned out to hunt. One by one, they destroyed the fleeing segments. In the end, Han Wu brought his dragon claw on the final segment and crushed its head. A general of the insects was dead.
