The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?

Chapter 594: The One Who Gave Us Another Chance

Leofric ignored him and kept adding, "But some of them eventually started thinking about it. That was enough for me. I didn’t need the entire village to stop believing in the Moon Goddess overnight. I only needed a few people to question something they had believed their entire lives."

Primrose stared at him as she slowly understood what he had been trying to do. "You wanted the idea to spread."

"Exactly." Leofric smiled. "One village would become two. Two would become three. If enough werewolves started believing they didn’t need the Moon Goddess to choose their mates, then eventually her place in their lives would become smaller."

Lorelle blinked several times. "So when you said you would slowly erase her from existence..."

"I meant exactly that," Leofric replied. "I wasn’t going to kill her followers or destroy every temple in one night. I was simply going to make people stop needing her."

Primrose didn’t know whether she should be impressed or terrified. "And that finally got her attention?" she asked.

"Oh, it certainly did." A pleased smile appeared on Leofric’s face as he remembered it. "The Moon Goddess could ignore me when I was only talking, but once I actually started doing something, she suddenly became much more willing to listen."

Edmund thought about what Leofric had actually wanted the Moon Goddess to do for a while before finally reaching a conclusion. "Was the Moon Goddess the one who turned back time and gave us a second chance to fix our relationship?"

Leofric’s smile grew wider. "Now you’re finally using your brain."

Edmund gave him an annoyed look. "Just answer the question."

"Yes," Leofric replied. "She was the one who turned back time."

Primrose’s eyes widened slightly. She had known that something strange had happened when she suddenly found herself back in the past, but she had never understood why she had been given that chance.

"So the Moon Goddess was the one who sent us back..." Primrose murmured.

"Not exactly both of you," Leofric corrected her. "Edmund didn’t remember anything when he first returned. You were the one who came back with all your memories, so that second chance was mostly given to you."

Primrose lowered her eyes. She still remembered how confused and frightened she had been when she first realized that time had gone backward.

At the time, she hadn’t understood why it had happened or who had given her another chance. She had only known one thing: she didn’t want to make the same mistakes again.

"She gave you a chance to try," Leofric continued. "But whether you succeeded or failed was still up to you."

Edmund walked back toward Primrose and sat beside her. Without saying anything, he reached for her hand and gently wrapped his fingers around hers.

The familiar warmth of his hand made Primrose look down for a moment.

"If I weren’t on your side, do you really think I would have gone to meet my dragon friend and asked him to give you some of his scales?" Leofric asked with a sigh.

"Oh, Your Majesty, you really don’t understand how serious this is. Your ability isn’t simply considered something that came from heaven. Heaven also sees it as a great threat."

Primrose didn’t say anything. She simply stared at her hand, which was still being held tightly by Edmund. Her fingers slowly curled around his as countless thoughts filled her mind.

After a few moments of silence, she finally asked, "Then what kind of punishment will you get for breaking these rules?"

There were probably many kinds of punishment that heaven could give to someone like Leofric. Primrose tried to imagine what they might be, but every possibility that came to her mind sounded terrible.

"I don’t know yet," Leofric admitted honestly. "But they certainly aren’t very creative when it comes to punishment, so I can already guess a few possibilities."

"Shouldn’t you have told me about this before?" Lorelle suddenly asked. Her voice immediately became tense. "What if the punishment is death?"

Hearing those words left a bitter taste in Primrose’s mouth.

If she were in Lorelle’s position, she would certainly be pissed after finding out that the man she loved might die because he had chosen to help someone else.

However, Lorelle’s next words quickly made Primrose realize that she had been thinking about the wrong thing. "For God’s sake, Leofric! I already moved into this fucking doll body!" Lorelle snapped. "What am I supposed to do if you die while I’m still alive?"

"Oh, Lorelle." Leofric immediately rushed toward her. "If someday you wish to die, either because of me or simply because you’re bored, I can help you do it without any pain," he reassured her.

Lorelle stared at him in complete disbelief. "You begged me to stay alive before, and now you’re telling me that you can also help me die?" Her voice rose with every word. "Oh, damn you, Leofric!"

"Lorelle, please. It’s not that simple." Leofric’s expression softened as he looked at her. Once again, he realized that he had somehow managed to say exactly the wrong thing.

"At least this way, I always know where you are," he explained gently. "And I can make sure you never have to die painfully again."

Edmund watched the two of them for a moment before quietly looking away.

He had a feeling that Leofric and Lorelle were about to start another argument, and judging by their expressions, it probably wouldn’t end anytime soon.

Besides, he had already gotten most of the information he needed tonight. There was no reason to force the conversation to continue.

[Besides, my wife still looks traumatized,] Edmund thought.

Primrose had barely spoken since Leofric began explaining everything. She had been unusually quiet, and the distant look in her eyes made it obvious that her mind was filled with far too many thoughts.

Edmund gently tightened his hold on her hand.

"Sir Leofric, for now, I hope you can find more information about that thing," Edmund said as he glanced toward the evil chest. "Let’s rest for today and continue this conversation with a clearer mind in the morning."
