The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?
Chapter 595: A Kiss Might Help
Primrose could walk on her own, but when Edmund carried her back to the bedroom, she did not even think about stopping him.
After everything she had seen from their past, all she wanted was to stay close to him. She wanted to feel his warmth, hear his breathing, and remind herself that he was here with her now.
That they were both alive.
"Do you want to clean yourself first?" Edmund asked as he gently placed Primrose on the bed, letting her sit on the edge. "You’ll be able to rest more comfortably afterward. How about I call Marielle for you?"
Primrose did not answer him. Instead, she reached out and wrapped her arms around Edmund’s waist, pressing her face against his stomach.
"Can we have some time alone?" she whispered. "I just want to be with you for a while. That’s all."
He stayed like that for a few seconds before lowering himself to his knees in front of her. His hand moved to her face, his fingers brushing softly over her cheek.
His touch was so gentle that Primrose thought she might have started purring if she were a cat.
"If that’s what you want, then alright," Edmund said softly. "I can help you take a bath too."
To be honest, Primrose did not even care whether it was just a bath or something more. After all, the only thing she wanted right now was to be with Edmund, so nothing else mattered.
"Alright." She leaned forward and wrapped her arms around him again, unwilling to let him stay too far away from her. "You can take a bath with me too."
Surprisingly, Edmund kept his promise from beginning to end.
Of course, Primrose knew him well enough to know that a few dirty thoughts still crossed his mind from time to time. However, he never acted on them.
Even when they were both in the bath, even when he carefully cleaned every inch of her skin and helped wash her hair, Edmund did nothing more.
Perhaps it was because the emotions inside Primrose’s heart were much stronger than any desire he might have felt and Edmund could feel every single one of them.
The sadness. The pain. The guilt. The relief that they were finally together again.
In their past life, Edmund had failed to protect her. He had died before her, leaving his wife behind to face everything alone.
He had not been there when she suffered.
He had not been there when she needed him the most.
Perhaps that was why, now that he could finally hold his wife in his arms again, Edmund wanted nothing more than to keep her close and treasure every second he had with her.
"Do you remember that I had a different hair color back then?" Primrose asked.
Edmund stood behind her, slowly running the comb through her hair. His movements were careful and gentle, as if he were afraid that even the smallest pull might hurt her.
"I remember," Edmund said with a smile. "Of course I remember."
His fingers gathered a few strands of her red hair, letting them slip softly between them.
[She used to have dark hair...]
His expression remained gentle, but his thoughts were far less peaceful.
[But that bastard forced her to keep dyeing it a different color.]
"So, you like my current hair color?" Primrose asked with a small smile.
"I love you," Edmund suddenly replied. "I love everything about you. Even if you look different in each of our lifetimes, I still love you because I love your soul and you alone."
Primrose stared at him through the mirror, and the small smile on her lips slowly disappeared.
She tried to hold herself together. She really did. However, after everything she had seen today, hearing those words from Edmund was enough to break the last bit of control she had left.
Primrose suddenly turned around and wrapped her arms tightly around him.
Edmund barely had time to react before she buried her face against his chest and started crying.
"Wife?" His voice immediately softened.
"I hate you," Primrose mumbled against his chest, even as her arms tightened around him. "Why did you have to say something like that right now?"
Edmund was silent for a moment before a soft laugh escaped him. He wrapped his arms around her and gently rubbed her back. "Would you rather I lie?"
"No..." Primrose whispered.
Edmund smiled. "Then I don’t regret saying it."
Those words only made Primrose cry harder.
She had already cried so much after seeing their past, yet somehow, there were still tears left inside her. She hated how easily Edmund could make her emotional.
One moment, she was perfectly fine, and the next, he would say something that made her heart ache all over again.
Edmund let her cry without trying to stop her. He simply held her close and occasionally kissed the top of her head.
After a while, Primrose finally lifted her face. Her eyes were red, and there were still tears on her cheeks.
Edmund wiped them away with his thumbs. "Done crying?"
"No."
"Alright. You can keep crying."
Primrose frowned at him before suddenly pulling him closer by the collar.
Edmund immediately understood what she wanted.
He slipped one arm behind her back and the other beneath her knees before easily lifting her from the chair. Primrose instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck, and Edmund held her securely against his chest.
Their faces were now at the same height.
Primrose looked into his eyes, still trying to calm the emotions filling her chest. This man had loved her through countless lifetimes.
Even when he could not remember her, even when they had different names, different faces, and different lives, somehow, his soul had still found its way back to hers.
"Maybe a kiss could help?" Edmund’s gaze softened as he looked into her eyes before glancing down at her lips.
"It might," Primrose said in a low voice. She leaned forward and whispered before capturing his lips, "Maybe even more than a kiss would help."
