The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride

Chapter 118: Amie’s first problem

  • Next Chapter

Amie hated her position. It had been two days since she started coming to the office, and nothing had really changed.

Chris had refused to bring her to the office, so she had to commute in her old car.

When she requested a new car, precisely the kind he had given June that was bulletproof, Chris had refused completely.

Amie had reported him to Serena, and she had promised to get her a new car, which Amie hadn’t seen to date.

Now, she moved towards the private elevator with two shopping bags in her hands.

Even if Chris refused to give her things, she needed to live up to the expectations of being Serena’s daughter.

Her two office buddies, Lamie and Karen, wanted two designer bags.

So, what else could she do but give them what they wanted?

As soon as she stepped into the department, Karen jumped from her seat, carrying a cup of coffee in her hand.

She handed the coffee to Amie and collected the shopping bags from her.

"I made it exactly the way you like it. Black with full cream."

Amie took a sip and thanked her. She moved towards her chair.

"What of Lamie?"

Karen’s gaze was focused on the shopping bags, so she didn’t really listen to Amie.

"She’s busy with the task you assigned her, but I’m sure she will turn up soon."

Amie nodded. "Well, one is for you and the other is for Lamie. It’s what you both wanted."

Karen let out a shriek that turned heads in their direction.

A glare from Amie made them all look away.

"This is really awesome. Thanks, Ms. Vassari."

"It’s nothing much," she told Karen, basking in the fact that she had called her Ms. Vassari.

Amie had instructed them to always call her Ms. Vassari, as the rest of the staff had followed in the head of department’s footsteps and called her Ms. Trevor.

It irked Amie so much.

Just as Karen was about to sit down, Lamie returned, panting while carrying files in her hands. She dropped most of the files on Amie’s table.

"Ms. Vassari," she said with a small bow.

Amie nodded at her.

Just then, Lamie’s gaze stopped on the bag in Karen’s hand.

"Is this really for me?"

"Yeah!"

Lamie collected the bag with a smile.

"Thank you, Ms. Vassari."

With a confident smile, she nodded towards the files she had dropped on Amie’s table and said in a whisper, "I was able to find these, ma’am."

The other workers were focused on their tasks, and no one bothered paying them any attention.

Amie’s eyes widened, dancing over the files.

"You were able to get this many files?"

Lamie nodded. "I had to meet most of the secretaries of the different heads of departments, but what’s most important is that I was able to get what you need, ma’am."

Amie nodded.

Great.

At least knowing what was happening in the company would give her an edge.

Eagerly, she scooped up the first file and glanced through it.

She dropped it on the table.

She would have asked them to help her check through the files, but this was supposed to be confidential. And asking Lamie to scout for files was more than enough already.

"What exactly are you looking for?" Karen eyed the massive pile of files in front of her.

Amie waved her hand in a nonchalant way.

"Just trying to see if there are some projects I could help fund, you know."

The ladies didn’t understand her, but they nodded eagerly.

Anything to keep them in the good books of the heiress.

They both went back to their systems and got to work.

While sipping the coffee Karen gave her, Amie went through the files as fast as she could. And the more she dug into them, the more her brows furrowed.

There was nothing useful in everything Lamie had brought.

Annoyed, she turned towards Lamie, who wore a smile, hoping she would get praise and probably another opportunity to ask for what she wanted.

But Amie dropped the last file with a thud.

"What am I supposed to do with these useless files?"

At the rise of her voice, some of the others turned to glance at what was happening, but no one dared to hold Amie’s gaze.

Confused, Lamie said, "Maybe if you tell us exactly what you’re looking for, I could get more accurate files."

Amie turned her glare on her.

"The instruction is simple. Just find a way to get the important files. I will handle what I’m searching for myself."

Lamie stuttered.

"Ma’am, these are most of the important files I could get my hands on. People at our level aren’t given access to the most important documents in the organization."

"I’m not at your level," Amie corrected immediately. "I’m the daughter of the owner. I believe I should have access to anything in the company."

Karen and Lamie shared a look.

"What?" Amie snapped.

After a brief silence, it was Karen who finally spoke.

"Ma’am, the company doesn’t run on ownership. It runs on position. If you want easy access to important files, then you need to be at least a senior manager."

Amie listened to them, but she could feel her anger boiling already.

If this position was so useless, why did Chris put her there?

And why was Serena allowing it?

With her status, she should at least be an executive at her mother’s company.

"And your biometrics would need to be registered in the company’s security system," Karen continued.

"Biometrics?" Amie asked, confused.

The ladies’ attention snapped to her.

"Of course. As the daughter of the owner, yours should already be in the system. But your clearance level would determine which restricted areas you can access."

Amie’s heart was pounding now.

Then why hadn’t Chris registered her biometrics in the company’s security system?

If she wanted to find out anything in this company, she needed to get her biometrics into the system.
