The Mad King's Heir
Chapter 156: Kai Jing’s story 2
Kai Jing thought that, with Li Jun’s personality, he would react strongly to what he was about to tell him and kill him on impulse. Thus, he didn’t hold back. His aim was to cause as much pain as possible.
He chuckled with a raspy cough. Li Jun’s jaw stiffened before he let out a contemptuous smile. "It’s funny, right?" His smile fell, and he gripped the man’s hair, pulling his head back and pressing the tip of the blade on the soft flesh under his chin. Blood dripped down like a crimson tear.
Kai Jing instantly tensed, not daring to breathe. He swallowed the blood in his mouth, the rusty taste making him nauseous. "If-if you kill me now. You will never know the truth."
"Who says I want to kill you? I am just going to toy with you a bit before you start talking," he said, his tone eerie.
"Ple- please. I will talk. I will... talk," Kai Jing pleaded with great difficulty.
Li Jun withdrew the blade and gently tapped his face twice. "As long as you wipe the smile off your face, I will let you," he said before roughly shoving his head away. He glanced at his hand, which felt dirty again. His lips twitched in disgust. He casually wiped his hand on Kai Jing’s clothes and got up.
He sat down in the chair with a sigh. "The stage is all yours," he said as he wiped his fingers clean all over again.
Kai Jing could have gotten straight to the point, but for the first time, he wanted to say what was on his mind. He wanted to spill out all the resentment he had held inside for too long. "I will start from the beginning."
Li Jun’s fingers paused, and he glanced at him.
***
Kai Jing, as a child, lived in the lower city of the imperial city. He wasn’t mistreated at all. His mother worked tirelessly to provide everything he needed and wanted. She made sure he lacked nothing. The only thing she couldn’t change was where he was raised. It was a small apartment in a terrible neighborhood.
His mother had been promising him that she would work harder and take them to a much nicer house, but after years and years, they didn’t move. He kept getting bullied each time he stepped out the door. Because he was small, he looked easy to mess with.
They shoved him while cursing him out. If he ran, they would chase him relentlessly. Anything he had on him was robbed, and if he had nothing on him, he would be beaten. He had complained to his mother countless times, but she was also a weak woman.
What could she do? Well, she did find a solution. She asked one of the thugs to help protect her son, and she would pay. Their leader took interest in her at first sight. He told her not to pay as long as she would sleep with him a couple of times a month.
Desperate, her mother did what she had to do. The bullying stopped immediately, but that’s when the gossip started and the sneers behind his back. Words like, ’If my mother was pretty, I would send her to the boss as well to protect me, his mother sold herself like a hoe, and look at that son of a bitch, strutting around like he owns this place.
Kai Jing couldn’t stand it anymore. He cursed his mother out, calling her every hurtful word he could think of. His mother just stood there crying silently. She even apologized, but Kai Jing didn’t want to hear it. He told her that he hated her before going into his room and slamming the door with a force so hard it shook the thin walls.
The resentment that had been stirring in his heart exploded. He didn’t speak to her, and if he did, it was one-word answers. No matter how many times she tried to break the ice, he was cold as frost.
This was their relationship for years. It turned estranged the day he was kidnapped by his father. When he found out who he really was and what a life filled with wealth and prestige he could have had in Helion, he was extremely angry.
His hatred for his mother deepened. His father asked him if he wanted to go back with him. Of course, he agreed to it. His father seemed pleased by his decision, but they had to get one more person first. Kai Jing rushed home with his father.
The minute they walked through the door, his mother froze in shock. He wanted to confront her for lying and tearing him away from his family, but she didn’t give him that chance. She ran towards the window and jumped.
They were on the second floor, but still. It wasn’t a height someone should jump off from, especially someone as delicate as she was. But that’s how determined she was to get away.
Limping, she ran off in the dark, and his father sent his men after her. For some unknown reason, she managed to escape with a broken arm and twisted ankle. Actually, it was some kind neighbor who opened the door for her and hid her for weeks.
Meanwhile, Kai Jing witnessed his father slaughter the thugs running the building. All he had to do was point a finger, and his father would do it for him. For the first time in his life, he felt the great sense of immense power. All those who bullied him were killed at his father’s command.
Kai Jing loathed his mother even more for keeping this life from him and letting him stay in this filthy place. His father could no longer stay in Aurelia otherwise, he would be caught and imprisoned.
He took his son with him back. Kai Jing could care less about his mother. He was just excited to live the life he truly deserved. But before they could reach their destination, they encountered Blue Sapphire.
The fancy spaceship he had only been in for four days was blown to bits. He remembered that woman’s striking face through the transmission before she blew them up. Haku Ume looked at them like they were filthy sewer rats that had climbed up to the surface.
As pregnant as she was, she gave the order to blow them up to shreds. She knew who was in that ship, and ever since she caught word that he had entered Aurelia’s territory, she wouldn’t let him go. He was, after all, the right-hand man to the king of Helion.
