The Mad King's Heir
Chapter 157: Kai Jing’s story 3
Kai Jing thought he was going to die. He thought this was the end. He didn’t even get to enjoy his new life fully before he met his demise. But something unexpected transpired. That was the first time it happened.
When he opened his eyes, he was in a strange place, and there was a large book in front of him. In a flash, everything in it was in his mind. It was a story about an Imperial Prince who everyone loved and his powerful general, ruling Aurelia alongside each other. And where was he in the story? He was an insignificant cannon fodder who died at Haku Ume’s hand.
To be frank, calling him, a cannon fodder was a stretch. He was more of an irrelevant passerby who died because he was in his father’s proximity. His death didn’t even make a ripple in the ocean.
He was enraged. Seeing the life of splendor and glory Li Jun had, and how pathetic his life was, he couldn’t stand it. Why couldn’t he be the main character? Why couldn’t he be the beloved imperial prince with riches and luxury? If he were Li Jun, he would be sleeping with a different beauty every night, or multiple of them.
But Li Jun, despite having the whole world at his feet, was abstinent, and when he finally fell in love with someone, it had to be a man. The fact that Li Jun didn’t even have a harem was absurd to him.
With this book and his ability to speak to anyone he wished, he had the chance to change his fate. He took the opportunity, but no matter how much he changed, the end result was still the same. There were times when he thought he had finally overturned the table, but in the end, the darling of heaven would prevail and have a happily ever after.
This was the first time he caused so much devastation and inflicted the most pain on Li Jun. He manipulated Yu Hu, making him betray Li Mingze and kidnap Li Jun. He used Xiu Ying to achieve his plans. Like a good puppet, Xiu Ying killed Haku Ume, and she turned Li Mingze into a mad man.
The plan was proceeding as intended. As long as he eliminated Li Jun, he be powerful enough to manipulate the entire Imperial court. The end goal was for Helion to take Aurelia from the inside. That was the plan. But now it seemed he could only give up and start again.
Kai Jing looked at Li Jun and smiled, showing his blood-stained teeth. "You see, this time I managed to achieve more than I ever did before," he said, his voice raspy. He coughed up a mouthful of blood before continuing, saying, "This time I inflicted you so much pain. Hahahaha, how do you like my masterpiece? Good, isn’t it?"
Li Jun could understand Kai Jing when he talked about his childhood and how his father came to find him, but anything after the explosion didn’t make sense. What book? What storyline? What powers? It was all very confusing.
"You think I would believe that? Do I look stupid to you?" he said, the smile on his face twisted. What did he take him for? A gullible fool who would believe his nonsense?
Kai Jing gritted his teeth. He could stand being cursed to death, but he couldn’t stand being treated like a madman. Everything he was saying was true, but Li Jun wouldn’t believe him. It was infuriating. His lips twitched, restraining his anger before he suddenly said, "Your mother called you chubby cub when you were young."
Li Jun’s entire body froze, the expression on his face stiff. No one except his family knew about it. Not even Yu Wen knew about that nickname, so how did this Kai Jing know? Seeing his reaction, Kai Jing was pleased with himself.
He smiled and said, "I know your mother used to wear a starburst pendant around her neck, which you now wear, of course. What was it again that your grandfather said when he gave it to her? Her eyes reminded him of the-"
Li Jun gripped his throat, his fingernails piercing through his flesh. The hatred burning in his eyes sent tremors in Kai Jing’s soul. "Who told you that, huh? You want me to believe that this fucking world is in a book?" he said, his voice sounding like the whispers of a murderous spirit.
"I am, I am not lying. It’s it’s true. It was all in the book," Kai Jing replied, his body quivering in fright.
Li Jun pressed down on his broken clavicle, and the man screamed in anguish. Tears streaming down his face, he begged him to stop and said that he wasn’t lying. Li Jun loosened his grip, but Kai Jing kept wailing, rolling on the ground.
Having lost his patience, Li Jun gripped his hair and pulled his head back. He said, "Tell me what the fuck you did with this so-called book?"
"Le-let go of me first," Kai Jing said, his voice strained from the pain. Li Jun let him go, but he stayed near him as though waiting for him to say something that would piss him off. "It was all in the book, and I could change anything, and there would be a butterfly effect. I tried to change my fate, but it was so hard. I would still die a miserable death each time.
Li Jun clenched his fist, struggling to restrain the storm surging in his body. What did this man do? He could almost feel it in his spirit what this man did. Kai Jing clenched his jaw tight as though trying to choose his words carefully, but there was no way he could say it that wouldn’t get his throat ripped out of his body.
"I tried everything, and it didn’t work, so I manipulated the people around you. If I couldn’t kill you directly, then I would make you lose the support of the people around you... Destroy you by hurting the ones who love you the most," he said, the tremor in his voice dissipating the more he spoke.
