The Mad King's Heir
Chapter 155: Kai Jing’s story
Li Jun found his reaction amusing. He crouched down, meeting his gaze with a glint of malice in his eyes. "You know I can not stand ungrateful people. The person who loves you the most made so many sacrifices for you, yet you turn around and stab them in the back. Ah no... You stabbed them right through the heart. How heartless," his tone filled with contempt.
The disgust in his voice fueled the flames raging inside Kai Jing. He couldn’t hold back his anger anymore. His voice explosive, he yelled, saying, "Sacrifices, hahahaha." His laughter was replaced by a rough cough, like he was about to cough up his lungs.
"I had everything in Helion. A title, a home, a family, but she ran off with me in her belly for me to suffer and struggle in that filthy place. I had everything I could ever want, but she robbed me of it. All she had to do was endure it," he said, the murderous intent in his eyes hard to miss.
The curl at the corner of Li Jun’s lips fell, and he glared at him. He tapped his phone, and the floating screen showed a slide of horrific and gruesome pictures of Kai Jing’s mother. Kai Jing’s father was a sadistic bastard who not only beat and tortured his wife. He also filmed it for his amusement. He took pictures of her extensive injuries, printed them, and framed them.
Kai Jing turned his eyes away, refusing to look at the gruesome images, but Li Jun wouldn’t let him do that. He grabbed him by the throat, his nails digging into his flesh as though he was about to rip his Adam’s apple right out of his neck.
"What? Can’t look? If she should have endured it, then you should endure it too... I can make you suffer the same way she suffered for the same number of years," he said, the bloodthirst in his voice unmistakable. Looking at him now, one could see the resemblance he had to his late mother, cold and ruthless.
"How about we start now?" he asked, his tone soft yet dripping with darkness. He raised his hand, gesturing for one of the men to hand him a plasma gun. The cold metal touched his hot palms, and with a face that resembled a beast more than a man, he pressed the muzzle to Kai Jing’s thigh. The man cried out, pleading for him to stop. "That’s what she said to your daddy dearest, but guess what?"
Li Jun pulled the trigger, and Kai Jing let out a gut-wrenching scream. Li Jun covered his mouth and nose with his hand and whispered, "Don’t let out a sound otherwise, I will make you feel even greater pain."
Kai Jing’s eyes widened as he struggled to breathe. These were the exact words his father said to his mother while torturing her in that dark, musty basement. How? How did Li Jun know, though? Unless they raided his father’s hard drives, how would he know? The thought of all his family’s dirty secrets being known by this man made him tremble in fear.
The corner of Li Jun’s lips curled before he shoved him down. The back of Kai Jing’s head hit the wall, and he saw black stars. One of the guards handed Li Jun a wet wipe as he stood up.
He wiped his fingers meticulously and slowly as he said, "We can make this more painful, but I would much prefer we don’t go there as long as you answer all my questions." What he really wanted to know was if he had given up his place on the throne, why would Kai Jing still target him?
Wasn’t it better to go after that bitch Xiu Ying or her spawn, Li Yu? The hatred in Kai Jing’s eyes when he saw him was so fascinating. This man had more hatred for him than towards the man who tortured his mother. How did that make sense?
Kai Jing had his head hung low, trembling like a leaf in pain. He met Li Jun’s face and asked, "What do you want to know? Helion’s secret cells in Aurelia or their war plans?"
Li Jun sneered and threw the wipe at him. What use was that information to him? Red Valkyrie already had that. This was why this bloodbath was starting to look like Helion was throwing a tantrum. Why else would he be having a vacation at the front lines?
They had been more organized this time and put effort into their attacks; Li Jun could admit that. But still, they were going to lose soon, especially with Red Valkyrie taking charge. This time, Li Jun planned on walking in the halls of Helion’s stone-walled palace and sitting on that throne. Helion could no longer exist as an independent nation.
"I have no use for that information. What I want to know is why? That look in your eyes tells me your hatred for me is engraved in your bones. Did I burn your house down, or perhaps it was something my dad did to you? What was it that I did that made you resent me that much?"
Li Jun asked, but Kai Jing refused to talk. He just hung his head, his jaw clenched. Li Jun sighed, his eyes closed. He really didn’t want to touch this filthy roach, but he was left with no choice. He took out a dagger from its sheath, the frost-like blade glistening under the light.
He spun it in his fingers as he walked over in two steps. Kai Jing had never been tortured in his past or present lives. The most painful experience he had was dying. Thus, his reaction right now was understandable. Just as the tip of the blade was pressing down on his skin with blood dripping down his clavicle, he said, "I I I will tell you. If you... if you promise to give me a quick death."
Kai Jing just thought he could get reborn again like he did countless times before. Li Jun paused, his tongue pressed against his sharp canine. His gaze trailed down to the silver tear stains on the man’s cheeks. He had barely touched Kai Jing, but he was already falling apart. How could Helion have such a timid thing in their high ranks? It was unbelievable.
’How disappointing,’ he thought before pulling the blade back. "Only if you tell me everything," he said, and Kai Jing heaved a sigh.
He knew he should hold back, but he wanted Li Jun to know that this pathetic weakling had not only had a hand in his mother’s death, but also his father’s demise. He wanted to see the pain in those eyes, knowing that the people who loved him the most died under his orchestration.
