THE LAST KEEPER
Chapter 466: TREATY
On the great circular granite table at the center of the Convergence Hall, scribes carefully unrolled five long scrolls of illuminated vellum. Each parchment was framed in silver filigree and stamped with the ancestral crests of the five founding provinces of the continent.
The ceremonial ink was prepared in a polished stone basin, ground from deep desert resins, mountain iron minerals, and eastern shyflower oil. A quiet reverence settled over the hundreds of assembled officers, clan elders, and academy masters as the historical signing ceremony began.
Sunlight filtered through the high stained-glass dome, casting brilliant rays of amber and sapphire light across the marble floor. The ceremonial guards of Squad 25 stood motionless at the perimeter of the dais, their polished bronze sashes gleaming in the morning warmth.
At the head of the table, Supreme Mandra Taziraka dipped a carved ivory quill into the dark crimson ink. The supreme leader signed his name with a firm, steady hand, pressing the golden sun crest of Tagayia into the warm sealing wax.
“This is the Treaty of the Five Sands,” Taziraka spoke, his voice carrying the solemn weight of centuries. “By this charter, we formally dissolve the ancient borders of division and restore our land under the primordial name of Tasaka.”
Sagiri stepped forward to the table, his dual-colored amber and silver eyes shining with serene clarity. He took the ivory quill in his hand, signing his name as the Supreme Chief of the South and the Last Keeper of N’folu.
“The South signs with an open heart and clean hands,” Sagiri said, pressing his signet ring into the red wax beside his signature. “Let the soil of our ancestors never again be stained by the blood of brother fighting brother.”
Grand Zorath Zaka Asakana walked forward, his heavy iron gauntlets resting upon the granite table. The towering northern chief signed on behalf of the northern clans, clapping his son Kaka on the shoulder with a broad, proud grin.
“The North pledges its iron to the common defense,” Zaka proclaimed, stamping the roaring bear seal of Asaka. “Our axes shall fell timber for new homes and schools rather than clash against southern shields.”
Kun Nakia Zawadi stepped up next, signing with fluid, elegant strokes on behalf of the Western Tsanka tribe. “The hunters and beast-tamers of Sawaka sign the charter. Our mountain paths are open to every traveler and merchant without toll, tax, or fear.”
Chief Tendai Mbeki of Molakwa took the quill with a booming laugh, pressing the forge hammer seal of the Central Plains into the wax. “Our foundries pledge twenty thousand tons of forged steel for roads, water conduits, and bridges across every province.”
Chief Linga Maaka followed, stamping the silver leaf seal of the Eastern healers beside the central crest. “The healing sanctuaries of Takata pledge their full botanical knowledge and remedies to every village from the northern snows to the southern dunes.”
Lady Kiana stepped forward draped in pristine silver and black robes, her noble Sekana bearing radiating poise and dignity. She signed her name as the Matriarch of Sekana, pressing the silver crescent seal into the vellum for the first time in five hundred years.
“The exiled children of the deep dunes return to the light of the realm,” Kiana said softly, her grey eyes bright with quiet emotion. “The Sekana clan pledges its eternal wisdom to guard the spiritual balance of Tasaka.”
General Zafaru and Master Sandshade Koru signed on behalf of the forty thousand southern spears, followed by Grand Marshal Senraki and Marshal Salka. The signature of every supreme commander and provincial leader was officially set upon the ancient parchment.
Marshal Salka and Grand Marshal Senraki exchanged a quiet, profound nod as the ink dried on the vellum. The two veteran commanders, who had fought on opposing sides for decades, now stood shoulder-to-shoulder as guardians of a shared dawn.
The chief imperial herald stepped forward to the center of the dais, reading the five core articles of the charter aloud to the assembly. His powerful voice carried across the rotunda, formalizing the legal foundation of the new continental era.
“Article One establishes the total abolition of all internal provincial borders, military blockades, and trade tariffs. Citizens of every clan and lineage shall possess full freedom of movement throughout the realm of Tasaka.”
“Article Two mandates the unification of the Ten High Schools into an open continental academy network. Future generations of cadets shall study defense, engineering, and healing side-by-side without tribal discrimination.”
“Article Three permanently outlaws all weapons of mass biological modification and shadow breeding. Any attempt to replicate the horrors of Lanka or Project Lava IX shall result in immediate stripping of rank and permanent exile.”
“Article Four formally restores the ancient ancestral homelands of N’folu and Sekana at Nkara. The crown shall provide full architectural resources to construct the grand oasis city of New N’folu.”
“Article Five establishes a unified Supreme Defense Council composed of five provincial generals under shared command. This joint command shall oversee continental disaster relief, frontier safety, and civil protection.”
As the herald finished reading the final decree, the entire council chamber rose to their feet in a thunderous standing ovation. Officers, elders, and cadets clapped and cheered, their voices merging into a triumphant chorus that echoed out through the high palace arches.
Outside the grand hall, the great bronze doors opened onto the vast marble balcony overlooking the Grand Plaza of Alika. Supreme Mandra Taziraka and Sagiri walked out side by side, holding the illuminated treaty high above their heads for the public to see.
More than one hundred thousand citizens, soldiers, and visiting delegates packed the immense city square below. When they saw the five united banners raised alongside the signed charter, an earth-shaking roar of joy erupted across the capital.
Thousands of colorful silk ribbons and paper lanterns were released into the azure sky, floating over the rooftops like a sea of vibrant confetti. Brass horns, cedar drums, and temple bells played the ancient melody of Tasaka, filling the warm afternoon air with joyous music.
Down in the royal gardens beneath the balcony, the ancient desert beast Zaira lifted her colossal head and released a deep, resonant rumble of happiness. Children leaned over the garden parapets, laughing as they tossed fresh flower garlands around her gleaming armored neck.
Kaka, Kiuga, Bukata, Maita, Zolinka, and Ulekai stood along the balcony railing, looking out over the sea of cheering faces below. Bukata rested a heavy arm across young Ulekai’s shoulder, his scarred face glowing with a wide, peaceful smile.
“Look at them,” Kaka said, wiping a sudden tear from his eye and quickly covering it with a cough. “I guess… I guess all those bruised ribs, broken spears, and frozen marches were actually worth something.”
“They were worth everything, Kaka,” Kiuga replied softly, folding his arms as a serene smile touched his lips. “We gave them a world where children can grow up without knowing the sound of war sirens.”
Lira stood close beside Sagiri, slipping her small hand into his warm palm as they looked out over the sunlit capital. Sagiri smiled down at her, feeling the calm, steady rhythm of her heartbeat matching his own.
The Five Relics within his bloodstream pulsed in quiet, radiant harmony, completely at rest within his flesh and spirit. The heavy weight of centuries had been lifted, replaced by the warm, living breath of a united continent.
Hand in hand with his companions, the Last Keeper looked out over the laughing crowds and the golden horizon. A new era had dawned upon the earth, and the children of Tasaka were finally free.
