THE LAST KEEPER
Chapter 459: BREAKING THE CIRCLE
The golden stardust of his parents drifted upward into the starlit sky, leaving behind a profound, sacred peace that filled every corner of the vast garden. Sagiri stood quietly in the center of the pavilion, looking down at his two hands.
Across his forearms and palms, the ink-black markings had completely transformed into elegant, silver-veined runes that pulsed with gentle, steady warmth. The burning torment that had torn at his internal organs for months was completely gone.
Deep within his spirit, the Five Relics rested in eternal equilibrium. The Golden Spear grounded his balance, the Beast Horn resonated with life, the Living Stone Hammer strengthened his bones, the Silver Mask cleared his mind, and Nokai rested peacefully at his side.
“For five thousand years, our people believed that power meant carrying everything alone,” Sagiri spoke into the quiet air, his voice clear and resonant. “They built high walls, hoarded their secrets, and died young in the dark.”
“Isolation was the true curse of the Keepers,” Kiuga agreed, stepping forward with his map scroll safely tucked into his belt. “They treated the Living Memory as a private weapon instead of a shared foundation for the living.”
“Well, they didn’t have Squad 25,” Kaka laughed, resting both of his heavy battleaxes against his broad shoulders. “If any ancient chief tried to lock himself in a room back then, we would have kicked the door off its hinges.”
Lira smiled warmly, stepping up beside Sagiri and gently linking her fingers with his. “You broke the cycle because you chose to trust us, Sagiri. You allowed love to be stronger than fear.”
As Lira spoke, a breathtaking transformation swept across the colossal architecture of the Archive. The dark, jagged obsidian walls of the vault began to dissolve into smooth, radiant white marble illuminated by warm starlight.
The endless shelves of memory crystals no longer crackled with violent purple lightning; they began to glow with soft, amber and silver light. The Archive was no longer a cold, suffocating tomb of dead grief, but an open, magnificent library of living wisdom.
“The resonance is complete,” Lady Kiana announced, her dust-rose eyes shining with pride as she watched her eighteen silver needles settle into a peaceful halo. “The Living Memory has been completely transmuted into a shared reservoir.”
“Look at the ceiling,” young Ulekai called out, pointing his wooden staff toward the sky in pure wonder. “The dark void is opening into the blue sky of the surface!”
High above the marble pavilion, the heavy spatial clouds parted, revealing the bright morning sunshine of Karokai Valley shining down through the golden dome. The physical world was calling them back to their bodies.
“Think about how far we’ve come,” Zolinka said softly, looking around at the glowing white columns. “From first-year cadets getting yelled at by Master Salka in the northern snow, to standing in the heart of the world’s greatest memory.”
“We survived because we never broke the formation,” Maita added, resting his hand on his dagger hilt with quiet satisfaction. “Every time one of us fell, someone was there to pull them back up.”
“And that is exactly how we will rebuild Tasaka,” Sagiri said, looking at each of his companions with deep, unshakeable pride. “Not as divided tribes, but as one united people standing under the same sun.”
Kiuga checked the glowing lines of his spiritual chronometer, giving a decisive nod. “Our temporal window is closing. Our physical shells on the surface are fully stabilized and waiting for our return.”
“I can’t wait to stretch my real legs,” Kaka grunted with a wide grin. “Sitting cross-legged on that frozen gravel was giving my northern rear a serious case of frostbite.”
“You complained about the gravel the entire way here,” Maita pointed out with a dry smirk, sliding his twin daggers smoothly into their leather sheaths.
“Because gravel is meant to be walked on, not sat on!” Kaka shot back, playfully nudging Maita with his elbow. “Just wait until we get to the capital. I’m ordering three entire roast elks, and you’re paying, Kiuga!”
“I am the tactical coordinator, not your personal treasury,” Kiuga replied with a calm shake of his head, though a faint smile touched his lips.
Zolinka adjusted the alchemical pouches on his belt, chuckling softly at their banter. “I think Bukata is going to be more relieved than any of us. He’s probably been holding that heavy shield on the surface without moving an inch.”
“Bukata did his job as our anchor,” Kaka said proudly. “When we wake up, he gets the first portion of the feast.”
Lady Kiana raised both of her hands, channeling the reversed Sekana void frequency through the silver needles. “Form the circle once more, cadets. I will guide our spirits back through the ascension bridge.”
Squad 25 moved into position around the white marble pedestal, locking their hands firmly together in their familiar, unbroken ring. Sagiri stood at the center, holding Lira’s hand with gentle, unbreakable devotion.
Sagiri looked back one last time at the peaceful garden of silver shyflowers and the white stone pavilion. The ancient pain of N’folu, the sorrow of his mother, and the trauma of his childhood were all peacefully at rest beneath the starlight.
“Thank you, Mother. Thank you, Father,” Sagiri whispered softly into the quiet breeze. “I will protect the world you gave me.”
Lady Kiana struck the center needle with a sharp chime of silver energy. A brilliant pillar of golden-emerald light erupted from the floor of the pavilion, engulfing the entire squad in warm, weightless radiance.
Their spiritual forms lifted effortlessly from the white marble floor, shooting upward through the open sky of the Archive like a cluster of rising stars. The ancient halls of the Living Memory echoed with a final, joyful hum of eternal peace.
Far above on the frozen bedrock of Karokai Valley, the golden dome began to hum with radiant warmth, ready to welcome the Last Keeper and his brothers back into the living world.
The long night of five thousand years was finally over, and the dawn of a united continent was about to begin.
