THE LAST KEEPER

Chapter 432: SLAVE PITS

The massive iron blast doors groaned under the force of Sagiri’s Silver-Veined Void Blades, buckling inward before collapsing onto the freezing stone floor with a thunderous crash.

A blast of stale, frigid air rushed out of the mountain’s dark mouth, thick with the sharp stench of alchemical exhaust, sulfur, and burning coal.

Sagiri stepped over the twisted iron threshold, his dual-colored eyes piercing through the heavy gloom of the subterranean labyrinth.

Ahead stretched a colossal underground cavern carved from black granite and ancient glacial ice, illuminated only by the sickly blue glow of alchemical braziers.

Massive iron catwalks spanned across yawning chasms, suspended above deep mining pits where steam-powered drills shrieked against the stone.

Down in the frozen pits, thousands of emaciated prisoners men and women from all five lands labored in heavy iron chains, hauling glowing ore carts under the whips of brutal overseers.

Above the entrance, Lady Kiana rested low on the jagged rim of a high stone archway, crouched in a silent feline stance as her dust-rose eyes mapped the guard rotations.

Her dark leather gear blended into the frozen rock, her gloved fingers resting lightly on the cold stone while her aura remained completely undetectable to the machines below.

"Three overseer command stations along the upper catwalks," Kiana murmured down to Sagiri, her voice carrying the quiet chill of the void. "Over five thousand captives in the central pit alone."

Sagiri looked up at her crouched silhouette, nodding in quiet understanding as he felt the heavy kinetic thrum of the mining rigs vibrating through his boots.

Marshal Salka and Grand Marshal Senraki stepped up behind Sagiri, their dark stealth cloaks blending seamlessly into the mountain shadows.

Senraki’s jaw tightened, his fingers twitching with lethal killing intent as he recognized the branded slave collars on the prisoners’ bleeding necks.

"These are the captives stolen from our northern and southern borders over the past decade," Senraki whispered, his voice dangerously low with repressed fury. "Fuel for Senraki’s machines."

"We split the vanguard," Sagiri ordered quietly, his hand resting on the hilt of Nokai. "Salka, Senraki, take Squad 25 and liberate the mining tiers. Break their chains."

"With pleasure," Kaka grinned savagely, rolling his massive shoulders as he adjusted the grip on his twin bearded battleaxes. "I’ve been itching to crack some skulls since we crossed the bay."

Like silent shadows dropping from the ceiling, Salka and Senraki led Squad 25 down the narrow iron stairwells into the slave pens.

Senraki moved with terrifying grace, his fingers striking like venomous vipers into the pressure points of the overseers before they could even draw their sidearms.

Every overseer he touched collapsed instantly, blood pooling from ruptured internal arteries as his lethal Daziko toxins paralyzed their nervous systems.

Kaka smashed through the heavy iron holding cages with thunderous overhead axe swings, shattering padlocks and severing slave chains with effortless northern strength.

"Get up, all of you!" Kaka bellowed to the stunned prisoners, his voice echoing across the chasm. "The allied army is here! Grab an iron bar and head for the harbor docks!"

Cheers and weeping broke out across the tiers as thousands of liberated prisoners surged toward the surface under Salka’s protective escort.

Maita and Bukata moved swiftly along the lower perimeter, disarming automated turrets and guiding elderly miners toward the evacuation ramps.

Zolinka and Ulekai secured the secondary exits, hurling concussive flasks that collapsed stairwells behind fleeing guards.

Suddenly, deep within the mountain tunnels, a deafening mechanical klaxon began to howl, vibrating through the solid bedrock.

Heavy iron blast shutters slammed shut across the lower access shafts as Lanka’s primary garrison mobilized from the central barracks.

From the wide subterranean crossroads connecting the mines to the upper citadel, the earth began to shake with rhythmic, heavy footfalls.

Thousands of heavy Soulless Shock Troops—the elite Grey Legion of Project Lava IX—marched into the crossroads in dense, terrifying phalanxes.

Their hollow, emotionless eyes stared ahead without a flicker of fear or thought, their jagged frost glaives raised in perfect, synchronized alignment.

They were unfeeling biomechanical butcher units, programmed to purge every living soul in the cavern to contain the breach.

"They are moving to slaughter the unarmed prisoners!" Kiuga shouted from the catwalk, his short-swords coated in overseer blood.

Before the Soulless vanguard could advance twenty paces, a terrifying, earth-shaking roar tore through the cavern from the rear tunnel.

A blinding flare of crimson and shadow energy exploded across the central crossroads, hot enough to melt the frost coating the cavern walls.

It was Supreme Mandra Taziraka, arriving at the head of three hundred savage Tagan Clan warriors.

The Mandra’s feral aura flared in the shape of a massive roaring saber-cat, his vertical golden pupils burning with ancient bloodlust.

"Soulless dogs!" Taziraka roared, the sound shattering hanging icicles from the ceiling. "Taste the fangs of living flesh!"

The Mandra activated the Art of the Beast, diving straight into the center of the Soulless phalanx like a falling thunderbolt.

His perception dilated time into a crawl as his clawed hands slammed into the armored vanguard.

In a single breath, Taziraka tore the heads off three shock troopers, his bare claws ripping through reinforced steel plating as if it were rotten parchment.

He spun on his heel with blinding speed, driving an elbow strike through an enforcer’s chest and sending the shattered automaton flying into a dozen of its comrades.

Behind him, three hundred Tagan warriors slammed into the enemy line with terrifying, primal ferocity.

The subterranean crossroads turned into a savage meatgrinder.

The Soulless knew no fear and felt no pain, but the Tagan Clan fought with an apex predator’s refined brutality, tearing limbs, crushing iron helms, and ripping out pneumatic conduits.

A heavy Soulless commander lunged at the Mandra with a massive frost battleaxe, aiming for his exposed neck.

Taziraka didn’t even flinch; he caught the razor-sharp blade in his bare, calloused palm, crushing the tempered steel between his fingers until it snapped.

With a terrifying roar, the Mandra drove his right fist straight through the commander’s torso, ripping out its blackened alchemical reactor and crushing it to dust.

"None shall pass this crossroads!" Taziraka bellowed, covered in black machine oil as his warriors formed an impenetrable wall of living muscle and bone.

High on the catwalk, Sagiri looked down at the brutal stand, his dual-colored eyes blazing with sharp resolve.

"The Mandra has secured the central junction," Sagiri said, turning toward Lady Kiana and Grand Marshal Senraki.

Kiana dropped from the archway, landing beside him in a low, effortless crouch.

"The western tunnel leads to the genetic enhancement laboratories," Kiana reported, pointing her silver void needle toward a heavy steel hatch. "That is where Lira was held."

"And the northern ascent leads straight to the High Throne," Senraki added, his voice cold as the grave as he scented the bitter alchemical trail ahead. "My father is up there."

Sagiri drew the master hilt of Nokai, its twenty silver-veined blades hovering in lethal formation behind his shoulders.

"Kiuga, take Maita and Bukata to support the healers in the western labs," Sagiri commanded. "Senraki, Kiana, Kaka... we go north."

With the slave pits liberated and the crossroads held by the beast clan, the strike team surged into the dark northern corridors toward their final reckoning.
