THE LAST KEEPER
Chapter 429: GRAND ALLIANCE ASSEMBLED
Chapter 429: THE GRAND ALLIANCE ASSEMBLED
A brilliant golden dawn rose over the northern coastal harbor, casting long amber rays across five hundred massive iron-reinforced warships anchored in the bay.
Along the rocky shoreline stretched an ocean of armed warriors, one hundred thousand strong, their banners fluttering proudly in the crisp sea breeze.
For the first time in recorded history, the armies of all five corners of the continent stood united beneath a single, sovereign standard.
The united flag of Tasaka flew from every masthead, displaying the ancient golden sun encircled by the radiant silver void blade.
At the eastern drydocks, Chief Tendai Mbeki and Banga supervised the final installation of Molakwa’s kinetic barrier cannons along the heavy wooden gunwales.
Each warship had been reinforced with silver-veined kinetic shields, designed to absorb the crushing impact of Lanka’s automated coastal artillery.
Heavy crates of disruption projectiles, thermal winter tunics, and enchanted rations were hauled aboard by teams of burly draft beasts and tireless artificers.
Nearby, Chief Linga Maaka moved among the hospital ships, organizing ten thousand Cilsi barrier healers and distributing starlight restoration crystals to every squad medic.
Away from the deafening clamor of the loading docks, tucked beneath a cluster of frosted northern pines, stood the quiet sanctuary of the primary medical pavilion.
Sagiri stepped through the heavy canvas flap, the cold coastal wind dying down as the familiar, bitter scent of boiled herbs and bone-knitting poultices met his senses.
Sitting at the edge of a narrow wooden cot was Lira.
She was dressed in loose, emerald-hemmed healing robes over fresh linen wraps bound tightly around her torso. Her face was still noticeably pale, her vitality drained from the brutal blow that had crushed her ribs in the Bleeding Gorge. Her misty grey eyes were fixed upon the floorboards, and her slender fingers were nervously fiddling with the hem of her sleeve—just as they always did whenever her thoughts were in complete disarray.
Hearing the rustle of his cloak, Lira’s head snapped up.
When she saw Sagiri standing there in his dark sovereign war coat, the twenty silver void blades resting behind his shoulders, her breath hitched, and a sudden blush flushed her cheeks.
"Sagiri..." she murmured, her heart beating loud enough that even the silence between them seemed to echo with it.
"Why are you out of bed?" Sagiri asked softly, his tone shedding the stern authority he wielded before the grand councils. He walked over, pulled up a wooden stool, and sat down right in front of her. "The Galka senior physicians told me you could barely sit upright yesterday without coughing blood."
Lira bit her lower lip, looking down at her hands. "I’m fine. The silver needle treatments Kiana gave me held the torn arteries. I can walk. I can channel cellular light."
"Barely," Sagiri countered, his dual-colored eyes narrowing with raw, unhidden worry. He leaned in closer, studying the dark circles under her eyes. "Lira, when Kiana slammed you into that pillar... when I felt your pulse fading in that canyon... my world nearly stopped. You almost died. I am not letting you anywhere near a battlefield until your bones are completely whole."
Lira looked up, and for the first time, there was no hesitation in her misty eyes. There was only desperate, burning resolve.
She leaned forward, her hands shooting out to clutch the front of his dark tunic, pulling him toward her just as she had done on that quiet, sleepless night in Thazir. Her grip trembled with weakness, but her gaze locked onto his with an intensity that took him aback.
"Please, Sagiri... don’t leave me behind," she begged, tears glistening at the corners of her eyes. "I know where this armada is sailing. It’s Glacial Lanka. The subterranean flesh-forges... the cryogenic vats... Chief Alchemist Varkis..."
A violent shiver ran through her slender frame at the name, but she refused to let go of his shirt.
"I spent five years strapped to their iron tables as a child, Sagiri," Lira whispered, a tear breaking free and trailing down her pale cheek. "I have spent seven years running from that cold, windowless hell in my nightmares. All those stolen children trapped in the tanks... the standard healers don’t know the dark alchemical inks or the cellular poisons Lanka uses. I do. Because Varkis pumped them through my own veins."
Her voice cracked, thick with emotion as she looked into his eyes. "I can’t sit here in safety while you and Squad 25 march into the place that stole my childhood. Let me come with you. Even if I only stay in the medical bay... even if I only bandage the wounded... please, Sagiri. Let me be where you are."
Sagiri looked at her.
He saw the fragile girl who used to get terrified of sleeping in unfamiliar rooms, now pleading to face the darkest monster of her past just to save children she had never met—and to stay by his side.
His chest tightened with a profound, overwhelming warmth. All the burdens of sovereign rule, the heavy crushing weight of the five absorbed relics, and the grim dread of the coming invasion seemed to melt away before her tearful gaze.
Sagiri didn’t pull her hands away.
Instead, he reached up with one hand, his rough, calloused thumb gently wiping the tear from her soft cheek.
Before Lira could say another word, Sagiri leaned forward, wrapped his strong arms around her delicate shoulders, and pulled her gently against his chest.
Lira gasped softly in surprise, freezing for a brief second before she buried her face into the crook of his neck. The familiar, comforting scent of cedarwood and warm desert sand enveloped her, shielding her entirely from the biting northern chill. Her trembling fingers bunched the thick fabric of his dark cloak, listening to the deep, steady thud of his heart against her ear.
"You really are impossible," Sagiri murmured softly into her hair, holding her close enough to feel the fragile rise and fall of her breath, careful not to press against her bruised ribs. "Just as stubborn as that night in Thazir."
"I learned from the Supreme Chief himself," Lira whispered against his shoulder, a faint, tearful laugh escaping her lips as her face burned warm against his skin. She tightened her embrace just a little, wishing the war could pause and let them stay like this in the quiet shade of the pines.
Sagiri held her for a long moment, letting her feel the absolute certainty of his protection, before he loosened his grip and looked down into her misty eyes.
"You sail with the grand flagship, The Sovereign of Tasaka," Sagiri said, his tone softening into a fond, quiet smile. "You remain in the central hospital pavilion under Chief Linga Maaka’s ward and Kiuga’s direct tactical guard. You do not step onto the vanguard breach, and you do not push your cellular energy past its limits. If I catch you being reckless, I will have Bukata carry you straight back to the quarters. Deal?"
Lira’s pale face lit up with overwhelming relief. A radiant, tear-filled smile broke across her lips, and she nodded quickly, wiping her cheeks with her sleeve. "Deal. I promise, Sagiri."
"Good," Sagiri said, reaching out to gently tap her forehead with two fingers before standing up. "Pack your healing kits and warm cloaks. The fleet launches within the hour."
Lira watched his tall figure step through the pavilion entrance, her heart fluttering wildly in her chest, filled with a warmth that completely banished the icy fear that had haunted her for seven long years.
Out on the piers, twenty thousand Tisaro longbow archers lined the high rigging of the galleys, their specialized frost-piercing quivers fully stocked for naval combat.
On the western piers, Kun Nakia’s ten thousand Kafika ridge-hunters loaded their swift assault skiffs alongside thirty thousand northern heavy shield-bearers commanded by Grand Zorath Zaka and Kaka.
Behind them, General Zafaru and Elder Koru marshaled forty thousand southern desert spearmen, their polished bronze armor reflecting the morning sun.
Through the clear shallow waters of the bay, colossal titan serpent Zaira swam with majestic grace, her armored scales parting the waves like a living dreadnought.
On the main deck of the grand flagship, The Sovereign of Tasaka, the veteran companions of Squad 25 gathered near the central mast.
Kiuga tightened the leather straps of his double-edged short-swords, while Maita and Bukata checked their specialized climbing harnesses and grappling lines.
Zolinka and Ulekai stood beside the forward ballista, sharing quiet smiles as they looked out over the massive armada they had helped assemble.
"Who would have thought six cadets from the lower academy would end up leading the greatest invasion fleet in history?" Kiuga remarked with a dry chuckle.
"We follow the Keeper," Kaka answered with pride, resting his heavy war axe against his shoulder. "Wherever Sagiri leads, we conquer."
A hush fell over the entire harbor as Sagiri walked up the central gangway of the grand flagship, his presence commanding immediate reverence.
Sagiri was clad in his dark sovereign war coat, the twenty Silver-Veined Void Blades hovering in quiet alignment behind his shoulders as Nokai hummed against his back.
Walking immediately beside him was Lady Kiana, her dust-rose eyes shining with calm void resonance as she felt the immense spiritual energy of the army.
"The will of one hundred thousand souls is resonating with the Archive," Kiana whispered softly to Sagiri. "They are ready to follow you to the ends of the earth."
Sagiri climbed to the elevated forecastle, looking out over the one hundred thousand warriors who had gathered to follow him into the frozen abyss.
"Commanders and warriors of Tasaka," Sagiri spoke, his voice carrying the deep, resonant authority of the Archive that echoed effortlessly across the water.
"Sixteen years ago, Glacial Lanka and the shadows among us sought to tear our world apart through terror, division, and automated cruelty," Sagiri began.
"They believed our people were too fractured by old grudges to ever stand together against their soulless machines," Sagiri continued, looking across the vast assembly.
"They believed our hatred for one another was stronger than our love for our homeland and our children," Sagiri declared.
"Today, seventy leagues of open sea separate us from the iron walls of King Vanka and the butcher General Senraki," Sagiri stated firmly.
"Behind those frozen walls, tens of thousands of our brothers and sisters are chained in subterranean slave pits, fueling the machines that were meant to destroy us," Sagiri said.
"Our vanguard will bypass their coastal batteries through the underwater thermal shafts to raise the Great Iron Sea-Gate," Sagiri explained the battle plan.
"Once the harbor is breached, our main armada will storm the citadel, shatter their bio-reactors, and liberate every captive soul," Sagiri revealed.
"We do not sail north for conquest or glory," Sagiri proclaimed, his dual-colored eyes burning with cold, incandescent resolve.
"We sail north to end a sixteen-year nightmare, to avenge our fallen martyrs, and to ensure no child on this continent ever lives in fear again," Sagiri roared.
Grand Zorath Zaka stepped to the railing of the northern flagship, drawing his dual bearded battle-axes and raising them high into the morning sky.
"The North stands with the Keeper!" Zaka roared at the top of his lungs, his thunderous voice carrying across the entire fleet.
General Zafaru raised his broad scimitar beside forty thousand southern spears. "The South marches with our Supreme Chief!"
"The West will bleed for the Keeper!" Kun Nakia shouted, her ten thousand huntresses raising their curved blades in fierce unison.
"The foundries of the Center will forge our victory!" Chief Tendai Mbeki declared, joined by Chief Linga Maaka’s vow of total eastern healing support.
Marshal Salka and Grand Marshal Senraki stood at the head of the Shadow Corp on the starboard deck, drawing their dark blades in silent, lethal salute.
Across the vast harbor, one hundred thousand warriors slammed their weapons against their shields in rhythmic, earth-shaking unison.
"For Tasaka!" one hundred thousand voices roared together, their united battle cry rolling across the Frozen Sea like unstoppable thunder.
"For the Last Keeper!" the roar echoed again, shattering the morning mist and shaking the distant coastal glaciers.
Sagiri drew Nokai, pointing the radiant silver-veined blade toward the stormy northern horizon where Glacial Lanka awaited.
"Unfurl the war sails!" Sagiri commanded, his voice cutting through the cheers with absolute clarity. "Launch the fleet!"
Hundreds of heavy iron anchors were hauled from the harbor bed as five hundred sets of crimson and silver sails caught the morning wind.
Thousands of heavy oars struck the freezing water in perfect synchronization, propelling the greatest armada in continental history out of the bay.
Grand Zorath Zaka’s northern icebreakers led the central assault line, flanked by Kun Nakia’s swift western cutters and General Zafaru’s southern spear-barges.
Colossal Zaira surged through the lead waves beside The Sovereign of Tasaka, leading the mighty vanguard into the open sea.
Standing at the prow with his inner circle, Sagiri watched the southern coastline slowly recede behind them as the freezing gales of the Frozen Sea filled their sails.
The era of division was over; the final war for the continent’s soul had officially begun.
