THE LAST KEEPER
Chapter 427: The Grand Zorath’s Submission
Golden dawn light broke across the mist-shrouded Central Plains, illuminating the vast allied encampment outside the foundries of Molakwa.
Tens of thousands of warriors from all five provinces gathered in the great open courtyard, forming massive, disciplined ranks beneath the morning sky.
Northern shield-bearers stood shoulder to shoulder with southern desert spearmen, western huntresses, eastern archers, and elite shadow operatives, their armor gleaming in the early light.
On the elevated stone platform at the center of the field, Sagiri stood calmly beside Kiuga, Banga, and Lady Kiana.
Behind them stood the veterans of Squad 25. Maita, Bukata, Zolinka, and Ulekai, their hearts full as they looked out upon the army they had helped unite.
Nokai rested securely against Sagiri’s back, its silver-veined runes pulsing with a quiet, steady rhythm that matched the deep heartbeat of the land.
Beside the dais stood General Zafaru, Marshal Salka, and Chief Tendai Mbeki, their expressions solemn as they looked upon the united continental host.
Grand Zorath Zaka Asakana walked slowly toward the center of the platform, accompanied by his son Kaka.
Zaka was clad in his full ceremonial northern warplate, its thick frost-iron plates bearing the deep scratches and burns of yesterday’s brutal trench battle.
He looked at Kaka, noticing the tall, upright posture of his son and the calm confidence radiating from the young warrior’s face.
For years, Zaka had pushed Kaka with ruthless cruelty, believing that only cold violence and fear could forge a worthy successor to the northern throne.
Yet standing before him now was a warrior far greater than Zaka had ever been—a leader who fought not out of fear or hatred, but out of unwavering loyalty to a brother.
Zaka turned his gaze toward Sagiri, recalling their first earth-shattering duel in the snowy mountains when the young Keeper had disarmed him and spared his life.
Before the watchful eyes of seventy thousand assembled soldiers, Grand Zorath Zaka reached up and unclasped the heavy Frost-Iron Torc from around his neck.
The torc was the sacred, ancient symbol of northern absolute authority, forged four centuries ago and passed down through generations of undefeated Zoraths.
No northern warlord in history had ever unclasped the torc before another living man.
With slow, deliberate movements, Grand Zorath Zaka sank to both knees in the damp soil before Sagiri, holding the heavy frost-iron collar aloft in his trembling hands.
A stunned, absolute silence fell over the entire plain as thirty thousand northern warriors held their breath in disbelief.
"For sixteen long years, I allowed blind pride and ancient hatred to poison my blood," Zaka said, his deep voice carrying clearly across the quiet ranks.
"I believed the North was invincible, and in my arrogance, I nearly led my people to total annihilation at the hands of monsters," Zaka continued.
Tears of profound humility and relief began to stream down Zaka’s weathered, battle-scarred cheeks, cutting lines through the soot on his face.
"When I was defeated in the mountains, you did not execute me," Zaka spoke, looking up into Sagiri’s dual-colored eyes. "You showed me what a true leader must be."
"You saved my warriors at Kovura Pass, you held our lines in the meatgrinder, and above all, you gave my son a future worth fighting for," Zaka added, his voice thick with emotion.
Kaka stepped forward, placing a massive, armored hand on his father’s shoulder, his own dark eyes glistening with quiet tears of reconciliation.
The generational curse of northern cruelty and bitter isolation was shattered in that single, redemptive moment.
"I, Zaka Asakana, Grand Zorath of the Northern Mountains, yield the sovereignty of the North to you," Zaka proclaimed, lowering his head toward the stone floor.
"From this day until my final breath, my axes, my clans, and my life belong to the Last Keeper of Tasaka," Zaka swore with absolute devotion.
Lady Kiana watched the scene from the edge of the dais, her dust-rose eyes shining with deep reverence as she witnessed the healing of the ancient realm.
Sagiri stepped down from the platform, his black cloak brushing against the damp ground as he approached the kneeling warlord.
He looked down at the ancient Frost-Iron Torc resting in Zaka’s weathered hands, feeling the immense weight of four hundred years of northern pride.
Sagiri did not take the torc as a conqueror claiming plunder from a broken foe.
Instead, Sagiri reached out with both hands, gently grasping Zaka’s wrists and lifting the colossal warrior back to his feet.
Sagiri took the Frost-Iron Torc and reverently fastened it back around Zaka’s broad neck, letting the metal rest firmly against the chief’s warplate.
"A Sovereign does not demand that his brothers kneel in the mud to prove their loyalty," Sagiri said, his voice ringing with calm, majestic warmth.
"The North does not belong to me, Chief Zaka," Sagiri stated, looking him directly in the eye. "The North belongs to its people, and to the ancestors who watch over us."
"You are the Grand Zorath of the mountains," Sagiri declared. "And you will lead the Northern Vanguard as our Grand Marshal when we cross the Frozen Sea."
Zaka stared at Sagiri in disbelief, completely overwhelmed by the young Keeper’s boundless grace and sovereign nobility.
Chief Zaka struck his iron-plated chestplate with both fists, letting out a thunderous roar of absolute loyalty that shook the morning mist.
Beside him, Kaka raised his heavy war axe high into the air, joining his father’s roar with fierce pride.
Across the vast plain, thirty thousand northern warriors slammed their heavy iron shields against their breastplates in rhythmic, thunderous unison.
Forty thousand southern spearmen raised their bronze weapons into the sky, answering the northern salute with their own ancient battle cries.
General Zafaru, Kun Nakia, Chief Tendai Mbeki, and Chief Linga Maaka drew their blades together, raising them toward the morning sun.
"The foundries of Molakwa will equip every transport vessel with kinetic shields," Chief Tendai pledged, his chest swelling with pride.
"And the healers of Cilsi will accompany every division to ensure no warrior falls in vain," Chief Linga Maaka added, bowing with deep respect.
"Hail the Supreme Chief!" General Zafaru shouted at the top of his lungs.
"Hail the Last Keeper!" seventy thousand voices roared in unison, their united cry rolling across the Central Plains like unstoppable thunder.
Marshal Salka stood on the dais with his arms crossed, a broad, proud grin spreading across his scarred face.
"Look at that, recruit," Salka murmured quietly to himself. "You finally united the world."
Sagiri turned his eyes toward the northern horizon, where the cold winds of the Frozen Sea were already blowing across the distant peaks.
The land fronts were secured, the five realms were bound in an unbreakable brotherhood of blood and steel, and the allied host was ready.
"Prepare the supply wagons and assemble the coastal fleet," Sagiri commanded, his dual-colored eyes burning with cold, resolute focus.
"Our final campaign begins now."
