THE LAST KEEPER
Chapter 422: SAGIRI’S CONTINENTAL WAR
Roaring hearth fires illuminated the high vaulted ceiling of Kovura Fortress’s grand command hall, casting warm amber light across ancient stone walls.
Outside in the snow-covered courtyard, thirty thousand northern warriors and forty thousand southern spearmen shared roasted meat and hot tea together around roaring bonfires.
Inside the fortress, the supreme leaders of all five corners of the continent gathered around a massive relief map carved from polished black granite.
For the first time in sixteen years, the rulers who had once eyed each other with suspicion and bloodlust stood within arm’s reach of one another.
At the head of the table stood Grand Zorath Zaka Asakana and his son Kaka, their heavy northern warplate still bearing scratches from the morning battle.
To their left stood General Zafaru, the Kai of the South, flanked by Elder Koru and the senior southern desert captains in polished bronze armor.
Across from them sat Kun Nakia Zawadi of the West, her curved blades resting on the table as her sharp predator gaze took in the assembled leaders.
Beside Nakia stood Chief Tendai Mbeki of the Central Plains, the master engineer of Molakwa Forge Academy, clad in heavy iron-plated work tunics.
Representing the East stood Chief Linga Maaka of the Takata province, a tall, calm warrior in flowing azure robes who commanded the healing legions of Cilsi and the archers of Tisaro.
The heavy double doors at the end of the hall swung open, and Sagiri strode into the chamber accompanied by Kiuga, Banga, and Lady Kiana.
Nokai hummed quietly upon his back, while his eyes glowed crimson
The whispering in the room ceased in an instant as every chief, general, and elder turned to face the young Keeper with instinctive respect.
"Be seated, commanders," Sagiri said, his voice quiet yet carrying an undeniable weight that filled the vast hall.
Sagiri walked to the head of the stone table, resting his hands upon the carved granite map of the continent.
"The victory at Kovura Pass was decisive, but nobody in this room should celebrate prematurely," Sagiri began, looking each leader in the eye.
"The sixty thousand Soulless we destroyed today were merely the advance vanguard of Glacial Lanka," Sagiri stated firmly.
Kiuga stepped forward, placing a heavy iron cylinder on the table, while Banga carefully extracted a glowing, frozen alchemical core from within it.
"Our analysis of the Frost General’s command logs confirms the worst," Kiuga reported, pointing to the dark runes etched into the core.
"King Vanka of Lanka and the traitor General Senraki have spent sixteen years converting northern subterranean mines into automated flesh-forges," Kiuga explained.
"They have hundreds of thousands of Soulless troops and heavy siege automata massing beneath the permafrost," Banga added in his steady, quiet tone.
"They do not require food, they do not sleep, and they possess no souls for the Archive to read," Banga continued. "Their only purpose is total extermination."
Lady Kiana stepped forward, her dust-rose eyes shining with calm intensity as she looked at the mountain map.
"The Sekana clan was used to test their prototype void implants," Kiana revealed quietly. "If King Vanka completes his alpha bio-weapons, no fortress on this continent will withstand them."
A heavy, suffocating silence settled over the chamber as the true scale of the existential crisis sank into the minds of the chiefs.
Kun Nakia leaned forward, her jaw tightening. "Then what is our plan, Supreme Chief? We cannot defend a thousand leagues of open border forever."
"We will not defend," Sagiri answered, his eyes burning with cold resolve. "We will strike across four fronts and take the war directly to King Vanka’s throat."
Sagiri reached out his hand, and faint ribbons of silver light from his fingers marked four strategic zones across the granite map.
"The First Front is the West," Sagiri said, looking directly at Kun Nakia. "Lanka has excavated underground bio-tunnels through your mountain gorges."
"Kun Nakia, you will mobilize the Kafika forces to hold the surface passes," Sagiri ordered. "Zaira and I will spearhead an assault into the gorges to collapse their tunnels permanently."
"My curved blades and five thousand ridge-hunters are ready," Nakia replied, slamming her fist against the table with a fierce grin.
"The Second Front is the Central Plains," Sagiri continued, turning to Chief Tendai Mbeki. "Lanka’s heavy siege engines will attempt to bypass our lines through the flatlands."
"Chief Tendai, you will return to Molakwa Forge Academy and deploy kinetic barrier cannons and anti-Soulless weaponry along the central highway," Sagiri commanded.
"The kinetic foundries of Molakwa will burn day and night," Tendai Mbeki pledged with a heavy nod. "No machine will pass our barrier walls."
"The Third Front is the East," Sagiri said, addressing Chief Linga Maaka. "We need vast logistical support, frontline healing, and coastal security along the Tisaro Arc."
"Chief Linga, the East will establish forward triage sanctuaries at Kovura and fortify our naval shipyards along the coast," Sagiri instructed.
"Ten thousand healers from Cilsi and twenty thousand master archers of Takata are at your command, Keeper," Linga Maaka answered with a respectful bow.
"Our barrier arrays will ensure every wounded warrior is saved, and our supply trains will keep the frontlines fully fed," Linga Maaka added.
"And the Fourth Front," Sagiri said, his voice rising with unmistakable finality, "is the direct amphibious invasion of Glacial Lanka."
"Grand Zorath Zaka, General Zafaru, and Squad 25 will lead one hundred thousand allied warriors across the Frozen Sea to shatter King Vanka’s fortress forever," Sagiri declared.
Chief Zaka stood up to his full height, raising his heavy iron chalice into the air as the firelight caught his grizzled features.
"For sixteen years, our tribes fought each other over old grudges while monsters built an army in the dark," Zaka said, his deep voice thick with emotion.
"Today, my son and I stand with the South, the West, the Center, and the East under one Supreme Chief," Zaka proclaimed, looking proudly at Sagiri.
General Zafaru drew his broad scimitar and placed it on the map table. "The forty thousand spears of the South pledge their lives to this campaign."
Kun Nakia, Tendai Mbeki, and Linga Maaka drew their blades in unison, placing their weapons alongside Zafaru’s steel over the center of the continent.
"For Tasaka!" General Zafaru roared, speaking the ancient primordial name of their united homeland.
"For Tasaka!" the entire council chamber roared in unison, their voices shaking the ancient stone foundations of Kovura Fortress.
Sagiri looked at the circle of drawn steel and the united resolve in the eyes of his commanders.
The ancient blood feuds that had bled their world dry were officially shattered, replaced by an unbreakable iron brotherhood.
Sagiri stepped out onto the high snow-dusted ramparts of the fortress, looking down at the seventy thousand warriors cheering beneath the rising sun.
The continental alliance was forged, and the counter-offensive to liberate the realm had officially begun.
