Chapter 162 Viktor Challenges Kaelen 2
Chapter 162: Chapter 162 Viktor Challenges Kaelen 2
Talia’s POV
(Readers discretion are advised)
It was not a howl of pain, it was a howl of fury, and like a howl of challenge. I knew it instantly that it was Viktor.
My blood ran cold.
It was deafening, and it echoed across the battlefield, stopping the fighting on both ends, as wolves on both sides turned to look.
Viktor stepped forward.
He emerged from the chaos like a shadow made flesh. The rogues parted before him, clearing a path, as he walked slowly, and deliberately, as if he had all the time in the world.
His eyes were fixed on Kaelen.
I could see the rage in his gaze, and the hunger, like he had been waiting for this moment, and he had been planning for it. And now, it was here.
His body was covered in blood, but his eyes were cold and steady.
There was something terrifying about the way he stood there. He looked calm, and collected, like he had already won, and like this was just a formality. I wanted to scream at him, and I wanted to tell him that he was wrong, but I held my tongue.
Suddenly, he began to shift.
I watched the transformation with a mixture of awe and horror. Viktor’s body was a weapon. Every muscle was coiled with power, and every scar told a story of death and victory I did not care to know about. Because he was a beast, and a monster, and he wanted my mate dead.
His human form cracked and reformed. Bones stretched, muscles grew, and dark fur sprouted from his skin.
His wolf form was massive, and larger than any wolf I had ever seen. His fur was dark as night, and his eyes glowed with cold hunger.
He walked toward Kaelen, with his claws leaving deep marks in the blood-soaked earth.
Then he shifted back to his human form.
His scarred body towered over the battlefield, and he looked at Kaelen with cold, and calculating eyes.
"Kaelen Frost," Viktor roared. His voice carried across the battlefield. "I challenge you for the Alpha position. Fight me, or I will tear your pack apart piece by piece."
The battle around them slowed, as more wolves on both sides paused, and started watching.
Kaelen shifted back to his human form. His body was covered in blood and sweat, but his gray eyes were steady, and he stepped forward.
"I accept," he said with a cold voice, and without giving it a second thought.
The wolves roared, as the challenge had been made, and the battle would now be decided by the Alpha fight.
My heart pounded with fear. I wanted to stop him, and I wanted to tell him not to do it.
But I knew I could not, because this was the way of wolves, and the challenge must be answered.
The battlefield had gone completely still now.
Rogues began to retreat, backing away from the Shadowfang warriors. They formed a cluster on the far side of the courtyard, with their eyes fixed on their Alpha. Shadowfang wolves did the same, pulling back to their side, and creating a wide open space between the two groups.
I watched them separate.
It felt strange, seeing the battle stop after so much chaos. The screaming stopped, the clashing of swords stopped, and even the fires seemed to dim, as if the flames themselves were waiting to see what would happen.
The two sides faced each other across the courtyard with rogues on one side, and Shadowfang on the other. And in the center, the two Alphas stood alone.
No one spoke, and no one moved. Everyone just watched.
The challenge had been made, and it would be settled now, in the only way that mattered.
Wolf against wolf, and Alpha against Alpha.
Viktor shifted back into his wolf form, and his massive body towered over Kaelen’s human form. The transformation was faster this time, and smoother, like he had done this a thousand times before. He knew his body, he knew his power, and he knew exactly how to use it to destroy.
He was larger, stronger, and covered in scars.
Kaelen shifted too. His wolf was dark and powerful, but smaller than Viktor’s.
I could see the difference in size. Viktor was larger, broader, and covered in scars. But Kaelen was leaner, faster, and more agile. He had always relied on speed and precision, rather than brute force. But Viktor was not like the rogues he had faced before, Viktor was something else entirely.
I felt a cold fear settle in my chest, but I pushed it aside. Kaelen knew what he was doing. He had to, because he had no other choice.
He did not hesitate, and soon, the two Alphas circled each other.
The world seemed to fade away, and the sounds of battle grew distant. Everything else became a blur; the pack, the rogues, the fires, and the smoke. There was only Kaelen and Viktor, and only the fight that would decide everything.
The flames, the screams, and the clash of swords, they all became background noise. The only thing that mattered was the two wolves in the center of the courtyard.
I watched Kaelen’s movements. He was calm, focused, and ready. He had faced many enemies before, and he had faced death before. So I knew that he could face it again.
And I would be here to see him through it.
I watched, with my heart in my throat, and my hands that were clenched into fists. I wanted to run to him, and fight beside him.
Every instinct screamed at me to move, to shift, and to tear Viktor apart with my claws. But I could not, because this was not my fight.
This was his.
The wolves were watching, and the pack was watching. If I intervened, I would dishonor him, and I would dishonor the challenge.
So I had to trust him, as I knew this fight was his alone.
Then they lunged.
The world seemed to stop, and time stretched, endless and agonizing. I watched them collide, with a blur of dark fur and flashing teeth. I could not tell who was winning, I could only watch, and pray.
I closed my eyes for just a moment and sent a silent prayer to the Moon Goddess. Please let him live, please let him win, and please bring him back to me. Then I opened my eyes and watched, with my heart still calling desperately for the Moon goddess.
While I was still praying, their bodies crashed together.
