Chapter 161: Chapter 161 Viktor Challenges Kaelen 1

Talia’s POV

(Readers discretion are advised)

The tide of battle was turning.

I could feel it in my bones with the shift in energy, and the way our wolves moved with more confidence, and more purpose.

They had stopped fighting for survival and started fighting for victory. I could see it in their eyes, with the fire that burned behind their exhaustion, and the determination that would not let them fall. They had tasted hope, and they would not let it go. Not now, and not after everything we had sacrificed.

The rogues were still coming, but they were slower now, and more desperate.

They knew they were losing.

I saw it in the way the rogues moved, the desperation in their attacks, and the way they looked over their shoulders, as if they were searching for their Alpha. Viktor was still there, still pushing forward, but his wolves were faltering.

They must had expected an easy victory, but they had not expected us to fight back so fiercely.

I allowed myself a moment of hope, for a brief, fleeting moment. Then I pushed it aside, because the battle was not over yet. Viktor was still out there, and he was coming for my mate.

Rogues were still falling faster, and our wolves were pushing forward, and driving them back with every swing of their swords, and every snap of their jaws. The flames from the catapults still burned bright, casting an orange glow across the battlefield.

They lit up the sky in shades of orange and red, painting the smoke-filled air with streaks of fire. The heat was intense, and I could feel it on my skin even from where I stood. It was a reminder of everything we had done to hold this ground, and everything we were willing to do to keep it.

I had howled, and the Shadowfang wolves had answered. The sound still echoed in my chest, warm and defiant.

I felt Lyra’s pride surge through me, like she had been waiting for this moment. This exact moment when we stood together, not as two separate beings, but as one. We were no longer just Talia and Lyra, we were a wolf, a warrior, and a Luna, all in one.

I looked around the battlefield and saw the faces of our pack. They were tired, but they were not broken. They were wounded, but they were still standing. They had not given up. And neither would I.

Then I saw him.

A massive rogue wolf was leading a group of attackers toward the west gate. He was larger than the others, with scars covering his body and a savage look in his eyes. The rogues moved around him like he was their leader, and he gave orders with growls and snaps, directing the flow of the attack.

One of our warriors shouted. "That is Viktor’s beta! His second-in-command!"

The warrior’s voice cut through the chaos, sharp and urgent. I followed his gaze and saw that he was pointing at the same massive rogue wolf.

He was different from the other rogues.

He did not just fight, he commanded. He directed the rogues, pointing with his snout, and growling orders. He was clearly the second-in-command.

I felt a cold anger settle in my chest, as I realized that he was the wolf who had been leading the attack on the west gate. This was the wolf who had ordered the deaths of our warriors, and he would pay.

Kaelen saw him too.

I saw the shift in Kaelen’s expression, the cold determination, and the focus. He had found his target, and he moved without hesitation, cutting through the chaos like a blade through flesh. I watched him fight, and I felt my heart swell with pride.

He was magnificent, he was unstoppable, and he was mine.

I watched him move through the chaos, and I felt a surge of love so strong it almost knocked me off my feet. This was the wolf I had not intentionally chosen from the beginning, but I had come to love.

This was the wolf who had chosen me, even when I disguised myself with an ugly face, and no matter what happened today, I would never regret a single moment of it.

His gray eyes locked onto the massive rogue, and without hesitation, he charged. His claws flashed, cutting through the rogues that stood in his path. He moved like a storm that was unstoppable and fierce.

The beta saw him coming.

There was a moment of hesitation in the beta’s eyes. He had been fighting lesser wolves all day, and he had not expected to face an Alpha. But he did not retreat.

I knew that he could not retreat, because his pride would not allow it.

He braced himself, with his claws digging into the earth. His eyes were fixed on Kaelen, cold and calculating. I could almost see the beta’s mind working, and trying to find a way to win.

But with Kaelen, there was no way.

He was facing an Alpha, and he was facing a wolf who had never known defeat. He knew it, and he was preparing for the fight of his life.

He braced for the attack, then they clashed.

Kaelen shifted into human form, and his sword met the beta’s claws, and sparks flew everywhere. The beta was strong, but Kaelen was faster.

I watched Kaelen move.

His body was a weapon. Every step was deliberate, and every strike was precise. He was not just fighting, he was dominating the beta. The beta was strong, but he was not fast enough, as Kaelen was already inside his guard before the beta could make another move.

He ducked under a swing of the beta’s claws, and drove his sword into the beta’s side.

The blade sank deep, and I heard the beta’s howl of pain, that was sharp and broken.

Blood poured from the wound, dark and thick, and the beta staggered, with his legs buckling beneath him. He tried to stay standing, and tried to fight back, but he was too weak, and the wound was too deep.

The rogue stumbled, as blood continued to pour from the wound.

Kaelen shifted back in to his wolf form, and raised his claw to finish him off.

But before the blow could land, a howl tore through the air.

The sound was so loud it seemed to shake the ground beneath my feet.
