THE GOD EATER

There were only two changes in his attributes. The first was that he had gained 16,100,000 years of lifespan. The second one was that his cultivation rank had advanced. The third change was that Fenrir had gained a new ability.

That second change was the one he had been looking forward to for a very long time, so when he saw it, his jaw dropped open in surprise.

He should be happy with this development, and he was really happy about it. But he was more surprised than happy. This was because it had happened in the most unexpected way.

Now that he had suddenly advanced to rank 7, he knew without a doubt that it must have something to do with the new ability and the new organ that Fenrir gained.

So he thought, ’The World Power Ability must be why I’ve advanced. And the World Power should be what the world seed grew into. This is impressive.’

He was impressed because only worlds should have world power. At least, that has been his experience so far.

Divine beings don’t have world power. Cultivators can only simulate world power with their Cave Heaven. But Fenrir had broken that rule by eating a world seed and using it to create a new organ within it.

This new organ is similar to the heart of a world. It doesn’t store lifespan, though. What it does is make it possible for him to advance like a world.

On its own, the world seed and the World Power Ability didn’t give him any tangible benefit. But their value became self-evident when they helped him raise his Dao Status.

When he thought about it, he remembered that medium worlds usually have two rank 7 Divine Positions or four rank 6 Divine Positions. He thought that this information was significant because the World Power Ability was also using four rank 6 Divine Positions to elevate him to the same level as a medium world.

This made him snort in anger as he thought, ’So I was right. That elevation in my cultivation that the Supreme Metac gave me was rubbish. The Supreme Metac didn’t make any fundamental changes in me.’

’No wonder it is so easy for the Supreme Metac to demote a divine being’s rank. When it is easy to help them advance their rank, then it will be very easy to make them fall in rank.’

Just to be sure that his advancement to rank 7 was all thanks to the World Power Ability, he switched off the World Power Ability. This caused the new organ to grind to a halt.

The ten thousand strings stopped vibrating, so they stopped consuming lifespan. In turn, his rank fell from 7 to 6. What he didn’t expect was that a Life Fire also appeared around Fenrir because he turned off this ability.

This made him excited as he thought, ’I really am a world king now. So thanks to the World Power Ability, I became a world king without sacrificing my life and Cave Heaven to a world.’

Then he shook his head, thinking, ’To think I thought the world seed would be useless. It seems Fenrir still knows better than I about what’s good to eat.’

He tried the World Power Ability again and again, switching it off and on several times. Each time the ability went off, a Life Fire would appear around Fenrir, and he would return to being a normal rank 6 cultivator.

He wasn’t sure if the absence of a Life Fire was a completely good thing. But he was glad that he could turn off the World Power Ability like this without facing any repercussions, if only for the reason that it allowed him to gain a thorough understanding of its capabilities.

After the short period of experimentation, he came to some conclusions. The things he had noticed about the World Power Ability went through his mind as he thought, ’The first disadvantage is that the World Power Ability costs lifespan to use.’

’The expenditure of lifespan is more than worth it. It is just a bit weird that one of Fenrir’s abilities costs me my lifespan to use. It is certainly a first.’

’However, it isn’t much of a problem since I can always switch off the World Power Ability. So it won’t cost me much to use if I only use it when I’m in a fight.’

Then he sighed as he thought, ’Perhaps the biggest disadvantage is that I will have to pay 1,000 years every ten years for the life leech now.’

’Of course, this isn’t Fenrir’s fault. It is the sect’s greediness that’s at fault. Plus, I might be able to circumvent the life leech.’

’I can deactivate the World Power Ability when the time for the life leech comes. Since I will be at rank 6 without the ability, the sect shouldn’t charge me as a rank 7 cultivator.’

’And if that doesn’t work, I can always stop using the Divine Positions of the sect entirely. If I don’t use their Divine Positions, they won’t be able to charge me, no matter how high my cultivation is.’

As for dropping a Divine Position when the time for the life leech comes and taking the Divine Position up later, it won’t work. This is because there is no fixed time for the life leech for everyone. The time for the life leech is calculated individually based on how long they use a Divine Position.

So, unless he plans to use a Divine Position ever again, he can’t avoid the life leech. The life leech is tied to his identity, so even if he dies, the countdown of the life leech will only pause.

He had experienced the life leech in the previous timeline and had done a lot of research about the various ways to get out of it. From what he learned, he knew for a fact that the countdown for the life leech won’t reset when he dies. So when he reincarnates and takes back the Divine Position, the countdown will resume.
