Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Disobedient Beasts Will Be Beaten
"SCREECH!"
Hearing Liang He’s call, the Canglan Hunting Eagle rushed toward her without hesitation. Following her instructions, its talons gripped Liang He’s shoulders as it soared to the very top of the black mist.
"Drop!"
Aiming carefully, it released her.
Liang He seemed to ride the wind, easily landing and standing atop the black mist. Then, clenching her hands into fists, she viciously smashed them into the black mist under everyone’s watchful eyes.
"BELLOW!"
The black mist suddenly let out a violent sound, seemingly caused by the heavy blow. The sound resembled a bull, yet also a fierce predator. It had the grating quality of metal pipes dragging across the ground, but if one listened closely, there was also an undertone of rushing water mixed with thunder and lightning.
"So you’re not a mute beast after all. You really aren’t a good boy, are you? I just asked you a question, and you refused to answer."
The black mist shifted from violently trembling to flailing wildly like a horde of dancing demons, but Liang He remained as steady as Mount Tai, pinning it down without being affected in the slightest.
She raised her fists again and ruthlessly smashed them into the black mist. This time, before it could react, a flurry of rapid punches rained down on its body like a torrential downpour.
"BELLOW!"
Feeling its scales loosening and the stinging pain in the flesh beneath, the black mist thrashed even more frantically, desperately trying to throw Liang He off. Unfortunately for it, Liang He was like a nail driven into its back—she remained entirely immovable, and her punches only grew more vicious.
"This is for being disobedient! This is for mixing with the Rebel Army! And this is for bullying my Beast Beasts and friends!"
After the black mist had appeared, Liang He realized that the entity hidden within it was the leader commanding the Fierce Beast Army’s attack. She had been holding in a breath of frustration and had wanted to vent for a long time. Since this black mist was quite resilient to beatings, it was the perfect punching bag!
"BELLOW!"
It thought indignantly, "This is too much! Too much! You human, you’re going way too far!"
With a long wail, the black mist finally remembered to use its tail to sweep Liang He off. Then, with a WHOOSH, it darted away from the battlefield and vanished into thin air.
"This guy can actually fly?"
Caught by the shoulders just in time by Lanton, Liang He gazed in the direction the black mist had disappeared, falling deep into thought. An animal that had scales, could fly, and was exceptionally massive? Why hadn’t she ever seen anything like it before?
"SCREECH!"
The Canglan Hunting Eagle safely deposited Liang He back on the ground. Although the black mist had fled, the Fierce Beast Army remained. These red-eyed, sharp-fanged Fierce Beasts possessed no consciousness and felt no pain. Once they locked onto a target, they would fight to the bitter end.
"Liang He, you..."
Hoder, who had originally intended to tell Liang He to hide for a while, suddenly recalled the scene of her beating the black mist to a pulp. He realized that instead of worrying unnecessarily about her, he would be better off killing a few more Fierce Beasts.
However, just as he slaughtered a Fierce Beast that had gotten too close, he noticed that Liang He had taken flight once again.
"Holy crap! Is this the legendary Qinggong from Blue Star?"
Hoder’s eyes widened. He watched as Liang He lightly tapped her toes against the ground and leaped onto the back of a Fierce Beast. With a sword she had pulled out from who knows where, she delivered a fierce thrust, piercing straight through the Fierce Beast’s skull.
Before the beast even collapsed, Liang He used the momentum to launch herself into the air again. Tapping her toes against its back, she vaulted onto another Fierce Beast and repeated the exact same maneuver.
"Are you kidding me? Who on earth told me that Liang He was just a frail, vulnerable Blue Star person?!"
Astounded by Liang He’s moves, Hoder roared in disbelief. At least now he was completely at ease and could focus entirely on fighting the monsters.
Liang He dispatched the smaller Fierce Beasts with a single sword strike each. In the blink of an eye, a whole swath of them had already fallen. The more she killed, the more energized she became; she was having the time of her life playing this deadly game of whack-a-mole.
Ever since arriving at the reserve, it had been a long time since she had so freely unleashed her killer instincts.
"Am I bullying beasts a little too much? But Fierce Beasts shouldn’t count as real beasts, right?"
Having finally managed to pull back her rationality, Liang He paused and looked back at the path of destruction she had carved out, raising an eyebrow slightly.
The Fierce Beasts thought indignantly, "So you know you’re bullying beasts! Are Fierce Beasts not beasts?! Damn it!"
Just as the members of the Guard Team and Law Enforcement Team were on the verge of collapse and Liang He was preparing to go help, the transport vehicle finally arrived belatedly. Under everyone’s expectant gazes, the arrivals raised their weapons—and aimed them squarely at the defenders.
"Gali! What are you doing?! We’re still here!"
Those who recognized Gali instantly shouted furious questions at him. Standing beside the vehicle, Gali let out a sneer. He raised his Photon Gun, aimed at the man who had spoken, and pulled the trigger without hesitation.
"Watch out!"
The man targeted as a warning to the others froze in place. His feet were rooted to the ground, his mind went completely blank, and he could only watch helplessly as death approached.
Hoder wanted to save him, but he was too far away to do anything!
"SQUELCH!"
The sound of flesh being pierced echoed out. The man, who thought he was already dead, slowly opened his eyes, only to see a massive Fierce Beast lying in front of him, having blocked Gali’s attack on his behalf.
"I... I’m still alive?"
He was overjoyed that he hadn’t died, yet baffled as to how he had survived. His teammate beside him remained silent for a moment before giving him the answer.
"Just now... Liang He threw a Fierce Beast through the air to block the attack for you."
Yes, the legendary meat shield.
Hearing this, the crowd swallowed hard in unison. How on earth did Liang He manage to throw such a massive Fierce Beast through the air, and with such terrifying accuracy?!
Damn it! Where did their previous misconceptions about Blue Star people even come from?!
"Gali! You traitor! You deserve to die!"
Gali’s act of firing his gun had undoubtedly revealed his true identity to everyone.
"Liang He, you’ve ruined my plans again!"
Compared to the survivor’s joy of escaping death, Gali, having missed his lethal strike, sported a noticeably ugly expression. Gritting his teeth, he glared at Liang He and rapidly fired his Photon Gun, only for her to effortlessly dodge every shot. Simply put, his firing speed wasn’t as fast as Liang He’s ability to predict and swiftly maneuver out of the way.
"Gali! Calm down! Don’t forget our mission!"
Just as Gali was losing control, a man beside him wearing a hat and a mask grabbed his wrist, forcing him to stop attacking.
"You don’t want to be punished by the higher-ups, do you?"
"Haa... I know."
Reminded of his priorities, Gali let out a long exhale. He resentfully lowered his Photon Gun and shot a vicious glare at Liang He.
"I advise you all to stop making senseless resistance. My targets are only her and them!"
Gali was pointing to Liang He and the Beastmen who had transformed into fierce beasts.
Because Liang He had eliminated nearly half of the Fierce Beasts, Hoder was finally able to free up his hands and walk over to her side. He locked eyes with Gali coldly, his gaze sharp and piercing.
"If you want to take them away, it’ll have to be over my dead body!"
"Then go ahead and die!"
Liang He might be untouchable for now, but Hoder certainly didn’t have that privilege!
"I’m just afraid you don’t have the skill!"
Hoder showed no fear whatsoever, hoisting his blade and charging into battle.
After Gali shifted his target to Hoder, the other rebels began to attack the members of the Guard Team and Law Enforcement Team. With the Rebel Army in front of them and the swarm of Fierce Beasts behind them, the defenders instantly fell into a disadvantageous position.
In the control room, they were urgently contacting reinforcements.
"The reinforcements are being blocked on their way here. I’m afraid the Rebel Army did it!"
"First they lured the district chief deep into the tiger’s den, and then they launched a surprise attack with the Fierce Beast Army. They obviously planned this out, so it’s normal that they sent people to intercept our backup."
"That’s strange. Why don’t I see Liang He anywhere?"
A staff member who had been closely monitoring Liang He noticed that ever since Hoder and Gali started fighting, Liang He had completely disappeared from sight.
Hoder didn’t have a firearm. Relying solely on a blade, he was completely unable to get close to Gali and could only do his best to dodge the incoming shots.
Just as Gali thought he had victory in his grasp, a cold sword suddenly pierced straight through his wrist. His gun instantly fell to the ground, and a voice like a demon from hell whispered in his ear.
"Gali, you didn’t really think you hid yourself that well, did you?"
