Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Shocking! Governor Huo Is Actually?

With Kerry’s roar, the Rebel Army realized they were exposed and immediately ordered their men to open fire.

"Damn it! We’re surrounded!"

Dodging an incoming shot, Kerry dove to the ground, rolling several times before finding suitable cover. Fortunately, he had spotted the ambush in time. The other Law Enforcers were uninjured; they took cover, waiting for the right moment to fight back against the Rebel Army.

"Kerry, there’s a sniper in the abandoned high-rise to the southeast. I’ll take care of him. You lead the men and break through from the northwest."

Using the sniper as the focal point, the Rebel Army’s encirclement thinned out as it expanded outwards, with the northwestern flank being the weakest. Since they had split into two teams earlier, Kerry and Huo An each carried a walkie-talkie for easy communication. Now, they could coordinate their retreat without interference.

Receiving the message, Kerry had no objections to Huo An’s plan, but Huo An shouldn’t be the one taking out the sniper.

"No! Governor Huo, you lead the Law Enforcement Team to evacuate. I’ll take out the sniper!"

This was his duty as a Law Enforcer and the captain of the Law Enforcement Team. Kerry didn’t wait for Huo An’s reply and immediately sprang into action. Seeing him leave, the Law Enforcer who had previously doubted the military dogs’ abilities quietly followed him.

"Don’t be rash, Kerry? Kerry!"

Unable to get a response from the walkie-talkie, Huo An frowned deeply. He then glanced at the Law Enforcers who were returning fire from their respective covers.

The current situation was clear: they had been lured into a trap by the Rebel Army. Unwittingly, they had stepped right into the enemy’s snare. If they evacuated now, even if Kerry successfully took out the sniper, the Rebel Army would inevitably surround him and vent their anger on him once they realized what happened.

Therefore, he couldn’t leave them behind.

"Kerry went to deal with the sniper. For our next move, you will follow my command, understood?"

"Understood!"

Since he decided to save Kerry, a counterattack was inevitable. Huo An made a prompt decision. Leading the remaining Law Enforcers, he moved to a relatively safer location and used the cover to return fire against the Rebel Army.

"From the looks of it, the sniper is in charge of aerial suppression, while the Rebel Army has two other groups."

These two groups were guarding the path they had come from and the escape route ahead. They clearly intended to cut off their retreat and wipe them out right then and there.

"Governor Huo, I can’t reach the captain. What should we do now? We’ll follow your orders."

Becoming a Law Enforcer required passing strict selections, especially regarding obedience. If someone started playing the lone hero on the battlefield, it usually meant the team was doomed, or the "hero" was about to lose their life. Therefore, in Kerry’s absence, they consciously obeyed Huo An’s commands. Aside from the initial shock of the ambush, they hadn’t panicked.

"The Rebel Army’s firepower isn’t strong, and their numbers are low. The main problem lies with the Fierce Beasts." Huo An calmly analyzed the battlefield situation.

It was extremely difficult for the Rebel Army to smuggle weapons past Sky Shining Star’s heavy blockade; otherwise, they wouldn’t have just one sniper up there. Therefore, the Rebel Army’s greatest reliance was still the Fierce Beast Army.

"If we can lure the Fierce Beasts away, the remaining Rebel Army will no longer be a threat."

"But the Fierce Beasts’ primary targets are Beastmen. In the absence of any Beastman, we will be upgraded to their main targets." The Law Enforcer who had previously told his teammate to talk less also began to analyze the situation calmly, trying to think of a way to avoid a direct confrontation with the Fierce Beasts.

"How about letting the military dogs try?" Amidst the chaos, the Law Enforcer holding the military dogs looked tentatively at Huo An and the others, offering a suggestion.

"No. Military dogs are just ordinary animals. Sending them to lure away Fierce Beasts is like hand-delivering takeout to them. It’s a suicide mission."

"This won’t work, that won’t work. So what do we do now? The captain is still up there in danger!"

Seeing an argument brewing, Huo An immediately put a stop to such inappropriate behavior and made a decisive call.

"I will lure away the Fierce Beasts. You focus your firepower and wipe out the rest of the Rebel Army as quickly as possible." Mirroring Kerry’s earlier action, Huo An didn’t hesitate. He dashed straight toward the Fierce Beasts that had just been unleashed.

Meanwhile, Captain Kerry, whom his teammates were so worried about, was quietly sneaking into the abandoned high-rise where the sniper was located. He intended to take the shooter out and buy his team a better chance at survival.

Just as Kerry crept up to the top floor, preparing to hide in the shadows and deal a fatal blow to the sniper, a gun barrel was suddenly pressed against his temple.

"Little mouse, I caught you."

Precisely because the Rebel Army lacked firepower, they couldn’t afford to leave any vulnerabilities around their sniper. On the surface, it looked like there was only one sniper on the top floor. In reality, a second person was hiding in the dark, acting as a bodyguard.

"Hey, buddy, let’s talk this out. Don’t do anything rash." Cursing his own carelessness inwardly, Kerry forced himself to stay calm and tried to negotiate.

Unfortunately, the man wasn’t buying it.

"Talk about what? About letting you watch how your friends die at our hands?" The man sneered, seemingly mocking Kerry’s futile struggles.

The index finger on the trigger began to twitch. Kerry could practically count down his remaining seconds of life by his own heartbeat.

Just as he braced himself to suddenly turn around and take his captor down with him, the man’s eyes bulged grotesquely, and he slowly slumped sideways to the floor.

"Why are you here?"

As the Rebel Army guard fell, the person standing behind him revealed his true identity. It was the Law Enforcer who had secretly followed Kerry upstairs!

"Captain... Did I... Did I just kill someone?"

Having joined the Law Enforcement Team only half a year ago, he had never killed anyone with his own hands. What he just did was a pure subconscious reaction to an emergency.

"Don’t overthink it. You only killed someone who deserved it. You killed to save more lives." Kerry had seen this kind of situation too many times. He immediately comforted him, not even bothering to scold him for disobeying orders and sneaking after him.

Truth be told, if it hadn’t been for this disobedient team member, Kerry would have likely died right there.

"Right! Captain, we will definitely win!"

Successfully comforted, the Law Enforcer was pulled into a corner by Kerry. The two quietly planned their route, preparing a pincer attack on the sniper.

"I just agreed with Huo An that he’ll lead a breakout. By then, the sniper’s attention will be completely on them. We must seize that opportunity and take him out in one shot."

If the sniper’s vantage point hadn’t been so tricky to reach, they could have ambushed him from behind and eliminated him directly.

"Understood!"

With the plan set, the Law Enforcer strictly followed the arrangement. Working seamlessly with Kerry, they quickly closed in on the sniper.

"ROAR!"

"Do it!"

The moment a commotion erupted from below, Kerry decisively gave the order. BANG! BANG! Two shots rang out. He successfully took down the sniper, but his own gun was simultaneously knocked from his hand.

It was then that they finally noticed the source of the commotion below.

Back when Huo An decided to lure away the Fierce Beasts alone, the others had no time to stop him. Deeply shocked yet inevitably worried, they could only stare at his resolute and imposing back. But suddenly, a massive shadow blotted out the sun before them. Their pupils shrank, their faces filled with utter shock.

"Governor Huo is actually..."
