Chapter 54: Prey and Hunter? Hard to Tell Apart
Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Prey and Hunter? Hard to Tell Apart
When Liang He ran to the law enforcement department within the reserve and found Huo An, he was discussing matters regarding the Rebel Army with Kerry, the captain of the Law Enforcement Team.
Huo An was quite surprised to see Liang He take the initiative to leave the Seventh Service Area to come find him.
"Liang He, do you have something urgent to see me about?"
"I’ve thought of a way to find the Rebel Army’s stronghold."
Normally, Liang He shouldn’t be involved in this kind of matter, but for the sake of reuniting the Silver Moon Wolf family as soon as possible, she couldn’t care less.
"You have a way?" Kerry looked at Liang He in astonishment. He really couldn’t understand what kind of method she could come up with for a problem that a group of professional Law Enforcers couldn’t even solve.
"Yes. I remember the Federation has military dogs, right?" Unlike Blue Star, where military dogs were divided into many specialized roles, the Federation’s military dogs were generally used more for search and rescue operations.
"That’s right." Kerry was a bit baffled by her question, but Huo An immediately grasped Liang He’s train of thought.
"You want to use military dogs to find the Rebel Army?"
"Yes. I remember we found a bag of gold bars on Dass, which was left by that rebel." Now they had a scent to track, which meant the military dogs had a direction to follow. "And didn’t a Law Enforcer go missing? If he’s still alive, he should also be at the Rebel Army’s stronghold."
Liang He’s meaning was simple: even if the scent on Dass’s bag of gold bars dissipated, they could still use the missing Law Enforcer’s clothing to track his scent. Taking a two-pronged approach, she refused to believe they wouldn’t be able to find the Rebel Army’s stronghold.
"That does... have some feasibility."
"It’s worth a try. I’ll contact them right away." As the captain of the Law Enforcement Team, Kerry certainly had more experience in this area. After hearing Liang He’s words, his eyes lit up. He immediately opened his Light Brain and requested to borrow two military dogs from the nearest military dog department.
After making the call, Kerry gave Liang He a thumbs up.
"Liang He, if we can really find the Rebel Army’s stronghold and rescue our teammate, you are this—the best!"
Kerry felt a surge of joy and anticipation, suddenly filled with motivation once again.
However, what they didn’t expect was that Liang He wasn’t the only one who thought of using military dogs to track the Rebel Army.
"Are you saying our stronghold will be discovered sooner or later?" Valken frowned deeply as he looked at the black-haired, curly-haired man sitting across from him, not understanding why he would say such a thing. "I admit my subordinates were incompetent before and didn’t even realize they left a trail, but we’ve already taken care of it. It’s impossible for them to find us!"
Faced with Valken’s naive thoughts, Elias merely propped his chin on one hand, lazily raised his eyes, and smiled carelessly.
"Your way of taking care of it was keeping that Law Enforcer alive because you want to use him for research?" Elias had no idea how the Rebel Army went from taking a military route to a scientific research one, but it didn’t matter. Since he had reached a cooperative agreement with Valken, he naturally didn’t want him to fail at the last hurdle. "You should know very well that the Federation has a military dog department. They are usually just used for ordinary patrols and emergency search and rescue, but what military dogs are best at—is tracking."
Hearing him say this, Valken panicked a little.
"You mean Huo An and the others will use military dogs to track that Law Enforcer?"
"Not only that. Didn’t you also give something to the mole earlier?" That was also the best kind of evidence to leave a scent.
Valken clearly realized the severity of the situation as well. Was he supposed to kill both his subordinate and the Law Enforcer and throw their bodies out?
"If I send someone to eliminate that Law Enforcer right now, and then have my subordinate leave Sky Shining Star, do you think there’s still time?" Valken only had so many people at his disposal. If he really killed the subordinate who contacted Dass, the others would fear for their own lives and their loyalty would waver.
"At this point, it would be better to have your subordinate take that Law Enforcer and lure Huo An’s group somewhere else to ambush and slaughter them." Compared to the flustered Valken, Elias felt that beating them at their own game wasn’t necessarily a bad idea.
"That makes sense!" Suddenly enlightened, Valken felt that he truly wasn’t as shrewd and deeply scheming as Elias. He would have to be even more vigilant regarding their future cooperation. He couldn’t end up like Huo An and the others, getting screwed over by Elias until the day they died without even knowing who the enemy was.
Yes, in Valken’s mind, Huo An and the others were already dead men.
"I’ll go make the arrangements right away. This time, we must let them truly experience the might of our Rebel Army!"
Unaware that the Rebel Army was about to set up a lethal ambush for them, Kerry was currently leading the two recently borrowed military dogs to sniff the scents of the rebel and the missing Law Enforcer respectively.
"Whether we can rescue our teammate and find the Rebel Army’s stronghold all depends on you." Kerry patted the two military dogs on their heads, pinning all his hopes on them. He then led the Law Enforcement Team to begin the pursuit.
Huo An chose to tag along, but before doing so, he was pulled into a corner by Liang He. The two whispered for a while before parting ways.
"I understand. I’ll make the arrangements, don’t worry."
Receiving Huo An’s affirmative reply, Liang He watched their resolute backs before turning around, boarding a hovercar, and flying back to the Seventh Service Area.
By the time she returned to the Seventh Service Area, Hoder was already standing by in full readiness.
"I’ve received the District Chief’s orders. From now on, I am at your command."
"Ahem, you can actually relax a bit. After all, I’m just guessing." It was the first time Liang He had seen Hoder this serious—so serious that she was a bit unaccustomed to it. Even when their private aircraft was attacked on the way to Star D139, Hoder hadn’t been in such a state of hyper-readiness.
"No matter what, ensuring your safety is my duty." As a member of the Huo family, Hoder was very clear about Liang He’s importance to all SSS-level Beastmen, and even to the Interstellar Federation. Therefore, there was no room for error. If anything really happened to Liang He under his watch, even atoning with his life wouldn’t be enough.
"Suit yourself." Liang He respected everyone’s professional convictions. Since Hoder took his job so seriously, she shouldn’t dampen his enthusiasm. "I’ll go back to the dorm and make some preparations too."
After greeting Hoder, Liang He returned to the animal dormitory. Just as she finished her preparations, the fluffy animals also returned from hunting and frolicking in the snow.
"AWOOO!"
"SCREECH!"
"MEOW!"
Before she even caught a glimpse of their fluffy shadows, Liang He, who was cleaning inside the animal dormitory, heard their cries echoing one after another from outside the door. When she stepped out to take a look, she realized they had an unexpectedly abundant harvest. They were here to claim credit and vie for her affection.
"Wow!"
"Did Lanton catch these rabbits? That’s amazing!"
"SCREECH!" Praised, the Canglan Hunting Eagle preened his feathers a bit shyly.
"Cedriel, you actually managed to catch fish in winter? That’s awesome!" The Mojin King Tiger was always the one who understood Liang He’s palate best. Every time he brought back prey, Liang He would eat it with great relish.
"AWOOO~" Seeing Liang He’s happy smile, the Mojin King Tiger obediently nudged her, then crouched to the side and licked his slightly wet fur.
Just as Liang He was about to praise them one by one, and the Mengji Snow Leopard had already struck a pose ready to be complimented, she suddenly caught sight of a massive piece of prey next to him. She almost questioned reality.
"No way... Leopard, why did you catch a crocodile?!"
