Chapter 118: Chapter 118: The True Identity of the Noblewoman and Her Daughter
As Liang He blow-dried the Platinum Giant Lion’s fur, loose hairs danced in the air. Not wanting to inhale a mouthful of fur but also reluctant to wear masks, Hoder and Soros had no choice but to stand guard by the door. Therefore, when the elegant lady and her daughter stayed by Liang He’s side, they appeared particularly conspicuous.
"Isn’t she the little girl who was saved from being trampled by an elephant by the Platinum Giant Lion yesterday?"
"You’re right. The woman next to her must be her mother, then? She probably came specifically to thank Liang He."
"Haven’t any of you noticed that this lady looks a bit familiar?"
Prompted by a bystander watching the spectacle, the crowd turned their gazes back to the elegant lady. Images of various celebrities flashed wildly through their minds. Finally, one person suddenly raised a hand and shouted in astonishment, "I remember now! She’s the Third Princess of the Royal Court!"
In the interstellar realm, apart from the Interstellar Federation, the Empire, the Royal Court, and the temple stood in a tripartite balance. This elegant lady was actually the Third Princess of the Royal Court? This truly surprised Hoder.
"Liang He’s luck... She casually saved a little girl, and it turns out to be the Little Princess of the Royal Court?"
"I’m so jealous of Liang He’s luck."
Beside them, Soros couldn’t help but nod in agreement. If he possessed such great luck, his monthly income might have exceeded ten thousand a long time ago. But it didn’t matter. Once he successfully completed this current mission, his goal of making ten thousand a month would be achieved—and perhaps even over-fulfilled, skyrocketing straight to a hundred thousand a month!
"Make sure you wear your masks properly." Completely unaware of the identities of the Third Princess and the Little Princess, Liang He grabbed two masks from nearby and handed them over. Then, she focused entirely on blow-drying the Platinum Giant Lion’s fur.
Princess Beibei looked at the pristine, majestic (strike that)—adorkable Platinum Giant Lion. She absolutely adored him and kept playing with him non-stop.
By the time Liang He finished drying the last patch of fur, it was already eleven o’clock at night.
"Finally done," Liang He said, rubbing her slightly aching shoulders. Looking at the floor covered in loose fur, she felt truly exhausted.
"All done?" Hoder asked as he poked his head through the crack of the door. Seeing Liang He leaning against the wall in exhaustion, he sensibly walked in and started helping her clean up. "You should go back and rest early. You still have to attend training tomorrow."
Because the blow-drying process had taken so long, the crowd of onlookers had mostly returned to their respective rooms. Even the Third Princess had carried the overexcited, now drowsy Little Princess back to their room. Besides Soros, who was still relentlessly trying to farm favorability, Hoder was the only one left waiting.
"Alright, then I won’t be polite with you," Liang He replied. "Cyril, let’s go."
"AWOO~"
Liang He called the Platinum Giant Lion to head outside. The squeaky-clean big lion, with his fur reaching an unprecedented level of fluffiness, looked even more majestic and beautiful than before.
"Liang He, how about I walk you back to your room?" Soros, who had been guarding the door all this time trying to fish for information from Hoder to figure out Liang He’s preferences, seized the opportunity to swoop in.
"No need. I won’t get lost in the hotel, and besides, I have Cyril with me." Liang He ruthlessly rejected Soros once again. She turned around and climbed onto the Platinum Giant Lion’s back. She simply couldn’t walk another step.
Meanwhile, videos of her actions—from having the Platinum Giant Lion save Princess Beibei yesterday, to bribing the Bear Bees, to helping the Elephant Group find the Little Elephant, and even tonight’s session of bathing the Platinum Giant Lion—had all been uploaded to the internet and reached the ears of the Rebel Army.
"This Liang He really does have some tricks up her sleeve." General Nick watched the videos, noting how Liang He could effortlessly communicate even with ordinary animals like Bear Bees and the Elephant Group. He knew then that he had to make a move. "If only Liang He could be used for my purposes..."
General Nick’s sinister gaze remained dead set on Liang He, his eyes brimming with ruthless ambition and desire. Withdrawing his intense expression, he began inquiring about the Black Wizard’s recent situation. "How are things on the Black Wizard’s end?"
"We followed your orders and locked the Dark Night Wolf King and the Spirit Deer Beastman together. However, they’ve merely claimed their own separate territories. There has been no fighting, nor any communication," his subordinate reported.
This was to be expected, though. Unlike the Spirit Deer Beastman, the Dark Night Wolf King was a purebred animal. Furthermore, he was injured. A predator’s instinct warned him that even if the Spirit Deer Beastman appeared gentle and kind, he was not someone to be trifled with. Therefore, staying quietly dormant was the most advantageous choice.
"The Black Wizard refuses to emulate Liang He and build favor with the Spirit Deer Beastman. His forceful attitude has made the Spirit Deer Beastman extremely resistant to his approach," the subordinate continued.
"Useless trash! Idiot!" General Nick had originally ordered the Dark Night Wolf King and the Spirit Deer Beastman to be locked together precisely to manufacture a sense of crisis for the latter. Once the Spirit Deer Beastman realized the danger, the Black Wizard was supposed to swoop in playing the role of a protector. This would allow him to get close to the Spirit Deer Beastman, making him willingly submit to becoming an experimental subject. "The benefits were hand-delivered right to his mouth, yet he doesn’t even know how to take a bite. He really thinks of himself as some extraordinary big shot!"
General Nick continued to curse the Black Wizard’s utter stupidity. After he finished venting, he thought of Valken and casually asked about him.
"The men keeping an eye on Valken reported that he sent his subordinates to contact the Bounty Hunters. He probably wants to use Liang He to curry favor with you in hopes of regaining his position as Minister." Valken seemed to be ignored by everyone—exiled, disregarded, and living under someone else’s roof. However, in reality, Nick’s people had been covertly monitoring him the entire time.
"Heh. He’s a bit stupid, but at least he’s loyal." Nick gently swirled his wine glass, his fingers lightly tapping against the tabletop. "Those Fierce Beasts that attacked the Little Elephant—who sent them?"
What should have been an ordinary case of a lost little elephant had suddenly caused public attention on the Rebel Army to skyrocket due to the appearance of the Fierce Beasts. This left General Nick rather displeased.
"It was Minister Ace, the one overseeing Valken," the subordinate answered. After losing his stronghold, Valken had been absorbed into Minister Ace’s base. However, one stronghold couldn’t have two Ministers, so Valken had become a deputy minister in name only. "He must have gathered information about Liang He. He wanted to use her live stream and have the Fierce Beasts maul the Little Elephant to death. That way, Liang He would face public backlash, and with the added pressure of public opinion, she might take the initiative to cooperate with us."
"Heh, another idiot." If Liang He were so easy to subdue, why would he have waited until now to make his move? Furthermore, as long as Liang He didn’t betray the Federation, the Federation’s higher-ups would spare no effort to protect her regardless of how grave her mistakes were—let alone the fact that the Imperial Crown Prince was in her hands. "Alright, keep a close eye on those guys. Report to me at any time if anything unusual happens."
"Yes, sir!"
After his subordinate left, General Nick slumped wearily against the back of his chair. With his eyes shut tightly, he massaged his temples to soothe his headache, yet his mind kept calculating. For now, he could temporarily ignore the Black Wizard’s side. With the Spirit Deer Beastman and the Dark Night Wolf King there, it was enough to keep him busy with research for a while. However, over on Valken and Ace’s end, they both had their sights set on Liang He. If they could really use this opportunity to capture her or persuade her to surrender, it wouldn’t be a bad thing at all. Since that was the case, he ought to help add a little fuel to the fire. He just didn’t know where to start.
Just as General Nick was pondering how to further perfect Valken and Ace’s plans, an unknown caller interrupted his thoughts.
"If you want to capture Liang He, we can cooperate."
