The Fire Of Divinity
Chapter 57: Choosing A Weapon.
“Actually, I enjoyed your short lesson about the quality of titans. Thank you very much,” Alexander said sincerely.
Frank immediately smiled and said, “Too bad for you, because that’s all that you’re going to get out of me.”
“Anyway, let’s move on. I tested your physique to know your physical strengths and weaknesses and use that information to decide what weapon fits you best.”
“Usually, the spear fits titans who prioritize Agility. The Hammer is the opposite, for those with ample Strength but lacking agility.
“The middle ground is the Club. If you have Strength and Agility, it will help you maximize them.”
“I use the club and recommend it to you. But you can also choose the hammer and the spear if you want.”
“Those three are all I’m good at, so if you don’t want any of them, I can’t train you,” he said, looking expectantly at Alexander.
Alexander didn’t need to think to say, “The club it is.”
Hearing this, Frank clapped excitedly and said, “Nice, let’s go.”
He immediately turned around and walked to the weapon station. Alexander followed him to see what he was up to.
Three kinds of weapons sat on the rack. They were hammers, clubs, and spears.
The three weapon types also varied in size. Some hammers had handles that were half his height, and some were smaller than clubs. Some hammers even looked like axes because of their sharp edges.
The clubs also had varied features. There were wooden clubs, giant clubs, metal clubs, diminutive clubs, spiked clubs, and morning stars.
Then there were the spears that looked like harpoons and javelins. Alexander wasn’t sure if the weapons should be categorized into three kinds, but since Frank said so and Frank was his teacher, he had to agree with that classification.
Frank spread his arms wide over his weapons, showing them off, and said, “Today, we will work to find the most suitable kind of club for you.”
“You will pick them one by one and swing all of them a hundred times. After you swing them a hundred times, you will rate them by their ease of use.”
“You will swing them at that stump over there,” Frank said, pointing at a battered tree stump.
Then he picked up a giant wooden club and gave it to Alexander, saying, “When you’re swinging it, I will watch your stance, rate the quality of your swings, and take note of your center of balance.”
“You should also pay attention to how much stamina you use. You will swing all of the clubs, and together, we will divide them into suitable and non-suitable.”
When Alexander heard this, he suddenly understood why Barnabas was hitting an anvil with his giant hammer as if the anvil owed him money.
He looked at the twenty-something weapons he had to swing and quickly became worried about his energy consumption. When he thought about what state he would be in after swinging the 23 weapons a hundred times each, his heart fell to his stomach.
He couldn’t help but ask, “All of them?”
“Yes, all of them,” Frank said, nodding.
“And that’s just the first round. You still have to go through the portion we put in the suitable portion and swing them a hundred times more to see which is more suitable.”
“We will do this a third time and maybe a fourth. Anyway, we won’t stop until we have found the perfect one.”
“When you’re done with weapon selection, we will begin weapon training. So the earlier you finish, the sooner we can begin with the core training.”
Alexander took the club from him and hefted it to test its weight as he said, “In that case, let us begin.”
Then he walked over to the tree stump. When he reached it, he raised the club above his head.
He held the club in the air there for a brief moment. Then he brought it smashing down.
The club smashed into the tree, shaking his arms and nearly knocking the club loose.
“That’s one,” he said, gritting his teeth.
Behind him, Frank called out, saying, “Put your back into it.”
“And don’t swing like you’re cutting a defenseless tree stump. Brace yourself for the impact. Use your legs and back to brace yourself.”
At the same time, the worm was saying, “Prepare yourself for a hellish day.”
“Which day isn’t hellish?” he asked as he swung the club again.
And so his training began. For the rest of the day, he would swing a club at the innocent corpse of a tree as if he was trying to kill it again.
While he did this, a certain 5-meter-tall giant stood nearby at the training field, watching him. Someone who is 5 meters tall should stand out among a group of 3-meter-tall Apostles, but he noticed this man.
No one noticed the red flame burning above the giant’s head either. Everyone ignored him, and anyone about to walk into him would walk around him without noticing anything amiss.
In the giant’s vision, two white clouds hung above every Apostle’s head. Squires and servants had one white cloud above their heads.
For most Apostles, one cloud was big, and the other was diminutive. The diminutive cloud orbited the large cloud, connected by a white tether.
But the clouds on Alexander’s head were arranged differently. Instead of one small cloud and one big cloud, there were two big clouds.
Basically, the clouds were the same size. The only difference between them was their density and activity state.
One cloud was so dense it was closer to solid stone than to mist. The other cloud was just a mist and could easily be dispersed. But as the giant watched, the misty cloud grew denser.
The giant also saw the misty cloud say to the other, “I am so hungry.”
“Surprise, surprise,” the dense cloud said sarcastically. “When are you not hungry?”
Of course, no one else in the area could see the clouds.
