The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order

Chapter 2440: The price of interfering with the Scarlet King

Chapter 2440: The price of interfering with the Scarlet King

The woman’s gentle voice and serene smile caused the killing intent in Cain’s heart to falter, as if cold water had been poured over the flames of his battle will.

For a brief instant, the raging storm inside him calmed.

But not even a second later, a brilliant scarlet light erupted in his eyes. The calm shattered, and his fury returned with even greater intensity.

"A spirit attack... and an extremely powerful one. If not for the Power of Chaos, I might have fallen under her control."

The Scarlet King’s gaze sharpened as he looked at the woman. Whatever caution he felt did not slow him. Without hesitation, he continued his assault, releasing more arcs of white flame toward the fleeing assassin.

The woman’s eyes widened.

She could clearly sense the aura of an Early Alpha–Omega Overgod coming from the young swordsman. His Ancestor Power felt strange and unsettling, but it should not have mattered. She herself was a Late Alpha–Omega Overgod. By all logic, her spiritual influence alone should have suppressed him.

Yet it had failed completely.

A flicker of caution appeared in her eyes.

But it vanished almost immediately.

This was an opportunity.

If she could save a High Lord of the Dark Blood Kingdom, she would earn a favor of immeasurable value. Compared to that, offending an unknown Early Overgod was a risk worth taking.

She glanced at the two Alpha–Omega Overgods beside her.

At once, their auras exploded.

"ARGHHH!"

Averus screamed as the mantle of dark flames around him finally collapsed. One of Cain’s arcs pierced through his defenses and carved a deep wound across his back.

Cain’s smile widened.

He surged forward, ready to finish the pursuit—

But suddenly, the power of the Heartcram Overgods erupted.

A freezing force blasted toward him.

Cain clenched his teeth and was forced to pull back to avoid the attack. Before he could resume his charge, the cold energy condensed, forming a colossal wall of ice.

It rose into the highest sky and stretched across the horizon, an immense barrier that completely blocked his path.

Averus’ face lit up with relief.

Only a moment ago, he had felt death’s blade resting against his neck. Now, a mountain of ice stood between him and the Scarlet King.

Of course, he knew it would not hold Cain for long.

But it did not need to.

Without hesitation, he suppressed his aura and flashed into the distance, his figure quickly vanishing from sight.

"Damn it!"

Cain roared as Averus’ presence faded from his senses.

The man was highly skilled at concealment. Once he disappeared completely, tracking him again would be nearly impossible.

Immediately, Cain swung his sword, releasing a massive surge of white flame that blasted into the ice wall.

A huge crater appeared.

But the barrier did not break.

The Eternum Flame was extraordinarily potent when it came to freezing and neutralizing incoming forces. However, when it came to raw piercing and destructive power, the Quietus Force was not at its best.

Cain struck again.

And again.

Within three seconds, the enormous wall was split apart and shattered into countless frozen fragments.

But by then, Averus was gone.

There was no trace left.

The assassin of the Dark Blood Kingdom had escaped.

And Cain had failed to obtain any information from him.

Slowly, the Scarlet King turned his gaze toward the three figures responsible.

His scarlet eyes became an abyss of hatred, rage, bloodlust, and countless dark emotions.

The moment the trio met his gaze, their souls trembled. It felt as if those eyes could devour them whole.

Yet true to the nature of the Royal Blutlinie—a race born for battle—they did not retreat.

Their expressions hardened.

Their power surged.

"He is strong," the woman said, her voice steady and filled with confidence. "But his white flames are weak against our ice defenses. If we remain careful, we can defeat him."

At once, their auras erupted to their full extent.

The two Mid Alpha–Omega Overgods summoned massive constructs of ice—towering fortresses, bladed weapons, and frozen mountains that hovered in the sky.

The woman raised her hand.

Behind her, an enormous ice dragon took shape, its body vast enough to swallow an entire city.

Cain observed the manifestations calmly.

He could feel the terrifying density of the ice—not only powerful and durable, but infused with a formidable sealing force. If those attacks struck him directly, there was a real chance he could be locked inside an eternal prison of ice.

"A difficult battle," he thought.

"If they were outside my Stasis Force Field."

Without warning, the Eternum Flame flowed from the Blade of the End of Time and spread into the invisible domain surrounding the trio.

To them, nothing seemed different.

Their power still surged.

Their attacks still moved.

Their confidence remained intact.

But from Cain’s perspective—

Their momentum slowed.

Their movements stretched.

Their reactions dragged.

They were moving like insects trapped in amber.

"Die under the might of the—!"

The woman began to shout.

She never finished.

A sword pierced through her back.

The blade shattered her spine in an instant.

Her eyes widened in horror and disbelief.

Only then did she understand what kind of monster they had chosen to oppose.

But it was too late.

The Eternum Flame erupted through her body, freezing her from the inside out. All regret and realization were locked forever on her face.

The two Royal Blutlinie beside her froze in shock.

Then panic took over.

They tried to flee.

But within the Stasis Force Field, their thoughts and movements were painfully slow.

The Blade of the End of Time flashed twice.

Both necks were pierced.

White flames flooded their bodies, freezing their vitality, their power, and their souls.

The Stasis Force Field of Null Eternum was truly terrifying.

You did not even realize your speed—of thought and action—had been reduced to a fraction of its normal state.

Averus had resisted because his Ancestor Power directly countered the effect.

The trio had no such protection.

Within seconds, all three Alpha–Omega Overgods were left suspended in the sky, frozen and powerless.

After ensuring they were completely immobilized, Cain lowered his sword.

Then he looked down.

Below him lay the vast city of Heartcram.

And the killing intent in his eyes erupted once more.

"It is time," he said coldly, "for Paradise to understand the price of interfering with the Scarlet King."
