The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order

Chapter 2439: Chasing after the assassin

Chapter 2439: Chasing after the assassin

The assassin’s eyes widened in disbelief.

Even if he had attempted to kill his opponent, the moment he invoked the name of the Dark Blood Kingdom, the expected response was absolute submission. Everyone in the Dark Blood Realm knew its authority. One lowered their head, expressed gratitude for being spared, and accepted whatever outcome followed.

Never—not even in his worst imagination—had he considered the possibility of encountering someone reckless enough to continue attacking after hearing that name.

And not just continue.

The killing intent coming from Cain had grown even stronger.

A surge of instinctive terror exploded within the assassin’s soul. He could feel it clearly—if the second strike landed, he would not survive.

"Damn it!" he roared inwardly.

Without hesitation, one of the rings on his finger shattered.

A surge of dark power erupted instantly, coating his entire body in blazing black flames.

"BOOOOOOOOOOM!"

The moment the Blade of the End of Time collided with the dark fire, a massive explosion tore across the sky.

Cain had not held back. His intention had been to cut the assassin in half—cripple him, break his resistance, and then extract every memory from his mind before he perished. That strike had contained the full extent of his strength.

Which was why shock flashed across Cain’s eyes when the blade failed to cut through.

The dark flames held.

And in the very next instant, those same flames released a violent surge of force that blasted Cain backward, sending him flying across the sky.

The assassin’s eyes burned with rage and killing intent. He wanted nothing more than to tear Cain’s heart from his chest.

But he did not hesitate.

He turned and fled.

"Damn rat... You forced me to activate my King’s Ring."

The expression on his face was grim and resentful. The ring was an extremely precious life-saving treasure, something he had preserved for years.

And now it had been wasted on what was supposed to be a simple mission.

His speed exploded.

Within moments, he reached the shore and left the Ocean of the Blood Sun behind.

A faint sense of relief filled his heart.

He felt safer now.

"The next time I see you," he muttered coldly, "I’ll make you repay everything you owe me."

A voice answered immediately.

"Hmph. I’m right here."

The assassin’s eyes widened as he looked over his shoulder.

The Scarlet King was already behind him.

Cain advanced at terrifying speed. Burn marks covered his body, and traces of blood stained his clothes, yet the injuries only made his presence more fearsome.

Without slowing, Cain raised his sword and unleashed massive arcs of white flame that surged forward with overwhelming momentum.

The assassin immediately tried to dodge.

But the deep wound across his chest had weakened him far more than he wanted to admit. Several arcs struck the mantle of dark flames surrounding him.

They caused no direct damage.

But the dark flames trembled.

Their defensive power weakened slightly.

"What the hell?" the assassin cursed inwardly. "According to the intelligence, his strength should drop outside the Ocean of the Blood Sun. Without its energy and vitality, he shouldn’t be able to maintain this level of power!"

Rage toward the intelligence network surged in his heart.

They had failed to report the strange ability that had redirected the force of his spear earlier. And now it was clear that Cain could still draw upon the ocean’s energy even beyond its shores.

Of course, Cain had no intention of explaining anything.

He simply continued attacking.

Each strike slammed against the dark mantle, slowly eroding its strength. If he could break through, the assassin would no longer have any means of resistance.

But it would not be easy.

The potency of the dark flames was extraordinary—far beyond the peak of the Third Realm. They had reached the very limit... perhaps even surpassed it.

Cain pushed aside all distractions.

His speed increased again and again as he relentlessly pressed the assault, while the assassin focused entirely on escape.

The chase continued.

For two full weeks.

They crossed entire continents, tore through colossal natural phenomena, and blasted through territories dominated by extremely powerful Omen Beasts.

It was obvious what the assassin was trying to do—use the dangers of the land to separate them.

But Cain destroyed every obstacle.

Nothing slowed him.

Meanwhile, dread continued to grow inside the assassin’s heart.

The defensive power of the dark flames had fallen to a critical level. His condition had only worsened over time. The wound on his chest refused to heal, as the white flames clung to his flesh, constantly freezing and disrupting his vitality.

Then—

Just as despair began to set in—

He saw it.

A massive city appeared on the horizon.

It was enormous.

A true metropolis, far larger than the capital of the Aztorus Kingdom.

Hope surged through him.

"I am Averus Coldrien, High Lord of the Dark Blood Kingdom!" he shouted with all his strength. "I request the protection of the Heartcram Kingdom!"

Cain’s eyes sharpened immediately.

From the memories he had obtained in the Kalous King, he knew of Heartcram.

It was one of the five great kingdoms that ruled the Dark Blood Realm.

Its power far surpassed that of Aztorus.

And unfortunately for Cain, while the name of the Dark Blood Kingdom meant nothing to him, it carried significant weight for Heartcram.

The response came instantly.

Three figures rose into the sky from the city.

Each of them released the aura of an Alpha–Omega Overgod.

At their head stood a young and beautiful woman.

Her long white hair flowed behind her, and her Ancestor Eye shone calmly on her forehead. Her presence was serene, gentle, and completely at odds with the overwhelming power she radiated.

There was no hostility in her expression.

Only calm.

She stepped forward slightly and spoke in a soft, clear voice.

"My friend," she said, "calm your heart. Let us resolve this with words."

The moment Cain heard her voice—

The grip on the Blade of the End of Time loosened slightly.
