Chapter 254: Light and Reflection 2

  • Next Chapter

‎The light construct seemingly vanished the moment it left Damon’s hand, its pointy tip reappearing before Alistair’s eye in the very next instant.

‎

‎However, just half an inch shy from piercing into his eye, the light construct fizzled into harmless motes of light.

‎

‎"Even I must admit, that is pretty impressive." Damon muttered almost to himself as he once again turned intangible. "But if you think that is enough to stop me...." his voice grew louder. "Then you are absolutely wrong." His voice this time appeared in the air, right next to Alistair, his dagger already making a beeline to the young man’s throat.

‎

‎’What?!’ Alistair’s eyes widened. His mind couldn’t fathom how the hell Damon got to him in the blink of an eye, and so fast that it bordered on teleportation, no, even speeds had limits in their current realm, this was teleportation.

‎

‎Of course it wasn’t actually teleportation, One of Damon’s reflections in the mirror dimension, had simply jumped to where Alistair was, then Damon’s actual body slipped into the mirror dimension at the exact moment his reflection slipped out to attack Alistair, making it seem as if it was teleportation.

‎

‎The dagger in his hand inched closer to Alistair’s throat, but at the last moment, a light construct in the shape of a thin film manifested before the dagger.

‎

‎However, the thin film shattered as though it was fragile glass the moment Damon’s dagger came in contact with it.

‎

‎While the thin film didn’t stop the dagger, it did buy enough time for Alistair to make some distance on his flying disk.

‎

‎Seeing the attack fail, Damon disappeared mid air, and reappeared back on the ground.

‎

‎"So, it really is teleportation." Alistair voiced aloud as he slowly lowered himself to the ground.

‎

‎"Had a change of mind?" Damon tilted his head in mild confusion.

‎

‎"With your ability set, long range attack have no effect on you." Alistair replied as he resummoned his spear.

‎

‎"Wise choice." Damon smiled. "But it doesn’t mean close range would work too."

‎

‎The next moment, their figures disappear and bled into two distinct streaks of light, a gold and a silver.

‎

‎An earth shattering shockwave blasted across the landscape as Alistair’s spear and Damon’s dagger met with bone shattering force.

‎

‎The ground beneath their feet cracked in spider web patterns, before exploding outwards from the might of their clash.

‎

‎Alistair was the first to disengage, his spear slipping past Damon’s defenses and piercing towards his heart with lethal precision.

‎

‎Damon however, moved in a seemingly slow motion, his hand raising up to strike a point in the spear’s pole, shifting the entire weight of the spear to the side.

‎

‎However a concealed light construct in the shape of a dagger suddenly shot at Damon’s head from Alistair’s sleeve.

‎

‎Damon raised his dagger to parry the construct, but it suddenly changed directions, zooming behind him. Without hesitation, he turned his to it, and successfully knocked it away.

‎

‎However, it came at price, one which Alistair didn’t hesitate to take advantage of. Alistair thrusted his spear at Damon’s back with all the strength he could muster.

‎

‎The air itself seemed to rend apart as the gleaming tip of Alistair’s spear approached Damon’s back. However, Damon’s figure vanished as if it were smoke, so Alistair hit nothing but empty air.

‎

‎’He vanished.’ Alistair thought. Worse, he realized something else.

‎

‎’Behind me.’ His eyes widened as he felt the sharp splitting of air behind him, no doubt from the fast movement of particularly sharp weapon.

‎

‎And he was right. Damon’s dagger inched closer to his neck with lethal efficiency in what looked like a decapitation strike.

‎

‎Alistair shifted his center of gravity, his body responded on instinct, dropping to all fours with surreal speed.

‎

‎Damon’s blade cut through the space Alistair had been with a sharp whistle, but he instantly transitioned his horizontal sweep into a downward thrust.

‎

‎Howverver, Alistair flipped himself using his limbs, and blocked the descending dagger with the pole of his spear.

‎

‎A bone rattling force rang through the prodigy’s arm as the ground beneath his body and that of a kilometer radius literally exploded into countless chunks from the force of the attack.

‎

‎Alistair’s body sunk into the ground as he coughed up a mouthful of blood.

‎

‎"This is getting a little boring, try harder will you." Damon’s voice dripped with pure amusement as he flashed Alistair with a wide smile.

‎

‎Alistair who was still desperately blocking Damon’s dagger with the pole of his spear also smiled.

‎

‎"I’m starting to think I should do the same."

‎

‎Without warning a small golden needle materialized and shot at Damon’s forehead at point blank.

‎

‎Damon caught the glibt almost instantly and swerved his head to the side. However, the needle was merely a feint.

‎

‎Alistair kicked at Damon’s chest, sending him skidding backwards, before flipping onto his feet.

‎"I shouldn’t be asking this, but is that all you’ve got?" Damon smiled, dusting his clothes with the back of his hand. "Because if it is, then I’m afraid you’re not my match." he added.

‎

‎"I’ll be the judge of that." Alistair replied as a palpable golden aura began emanating from him. He was pushing his initial ability to its limits.

‎

‎"I was recently gifted an immortal grade technique by my master." Alistair said and for a moment, the smile on Damon’s face cracked slightly.

‎

‎Alistair’s smile widened, mistaking it for shock. Lizzy had gifted him the technique, saying the words; "Your Dragon spear arts is too sloppy and a low grade for someone like you "

‎

‎Lizzy said she had found it a few years ago in a tomb she had entered, and though she couldn’t practice it herself, due to her already passing the threshold required to learn it, she felt Alistair was the perfect fit for it.

‎

‎Alistair had almost been moved to tears. How many immortal techniques were there in the entire human? Only Four.

‎

‎That of the Darkfell, Whetstone, Ashton, and Necron. Even the Astral Mystic Institute didn’t posses a single immortal grade technique.

‎

‎The fact that Lizzy had even come across one was merely fate. And now that it has been gifted to him, there was no way he letting her down. He was going to win this tournament.

‎

‎Meanwhile, as Alistair thought Damon was overcome with shock at hearing that he had an immortal grade technique, Damon was shocked for another reason entirely.

‎

‎’This is it, I’m witnessing a shonen protagonist pull out an overpowered technique after getting beaten.’ He thought with widened eyes.

‎

‎"Witness it...." Alistair continued as he flicked his spear. "... and know your own..."

‎

‎Alistair’s sentence was cut short as a fist collided against his cheek with bone shattering force.

‎

‎His entire body leaned back as if in suspended animation, before launching backwards at subsonic speeds.

‎

‎"What do you think this is an anime?" Damon’s voice rang out. "As if I’d watch you power up some overpowered technique like some shonen protagonist."

‎

‎In the next instant, he disappeared from his spot and reappeared behind the still moving Alistair whose body tore through everything in its way as if it was paper.

‎

‎Damon decided to rest something he has gotten the inspiration for after watching Nyssa and Anastasia’s fight.

‎

‎He drove a fist straight into Alistair’s face, followed by rapid combo of punches that descended on Alistair like a storm, and then one final punch that blasted him backwards.

‎

‎But Damon wasn’t done. He disappeared from his spot once more reappeared next to Alistair again, delivered another punch, then disappeared and intercepted Alistair with another punch before the boy could be thrown away.

‎

‎Multiple Demons appeared under the guise of afterimages created from sheer speed and teleportation, each intercepting Alistair in every direction he flew to.

‎

‎"What am I seeing?" Calum who was still up on the platform whispered in disbelief. "That bastard is beating Alistair like an adult would do a child."

‎

‎What shocked him even more was that Damon wasn’t even using that phasing ability of his, and he was still suppressing Alistair this bad.

‎

‎Anastasia who was sitting beside him meanwhile, merely watched with an expressionless face, though those who knew her well would realize she was somewhat in disbelief.

‎

‎She had just heard a word she had only heard from one person. As she gazed at his figure, everything suddenly started to make sense.

‎

‎’That insufferable bastard.’

‎

‎Outside the pocket realm meanwhile, "Anime? Where have I heard this word before?" Rose muttered to herself.

‎

‎Almost immediately, it came to her.

‎

‎"Tsk, don’t you know attacking someone who isn’t ready isn’t proper by anime standards?" The voice rang back in her mind.

‎

‎Rose’s eyes slowly rose up to the screens, her gaze fixed on the imposter. Slowly, everything about his behavior started to make sense. Even the things she had missed earlier began to fall into place, like asking her for a dance, and then Anastasia.

‎

‎’He’s alive.’

‎

‎---------

‎

‎Meanwhile, Damon continued to pummel the shit out of Alistair Until finally, a blinding radiance erupted from the golden boy.

‎

‎"ENOUGH!!"

‎

‎The blinding radiance ballooned into a giant sphere shaped construct with Alistair in the middle of it.

‎

‎Using the momentary respite as a chance, Alistair ignored his battered and injured form. Withoug hesitation, he began using his new immortal grade technique.

‎

‎[First form: Heavenly rend]

‎

‎His spear glowed with a blinding white hue as he shot towards Damon, the air screaming with a defeating shockwave in his wake.

‎

‎In less than an instant, he was before Damon who couldn’t even blink, his spear falling towards Damon’s neck, aiming to remove his head off his shoulders.
