Chapter 253: Light and Reflection

  • Next Chapter

‎Damon and Alistair both stood up without much fanfare, each confident in their own ability.

‎

‎"Wish me luck will you?" Damon tilted his head at Anastasia only for Calum to let out a snicker.

‎

‎Anastasia didn’t deign to Damon an answer as the bright light transported both he and Alistair to the ground.

‎

‎Almost immediately, a brilliant golden light briefly enveloped Alistair, transforming him on a cellular level, and boosting his strength to unimaginable levels.

‎

‎"Going all out at the start I see." Damon mused aloud, staring at Alistair.

‎

‎Alistair smiled.

‎

‎"It is you, I have no other choice. My instincts are telling me that if I were to come at you in my base state..." Alistair paused a second as his spear materialized in his hand. "...I wouldn’t last more than a second."

‎

‎"Is that so? Then I’m honoured you view me in such high regard." Damon chuckled.

‎

‎"IT SEEMS OUR TWO COMBATANTS HAVE QUITE THE RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER BUT I’M AFRAID I MUST BRING AN END TO SUCH POLITE CONVERSATIONS AND INTRODUCE SOME VIOLENCE!!" The commentator said in a formal tone making most of the audience chuckle.

‎

‎"NOW, I HEREBY DECLARE THIS MATCH TO BEGIN!!!"

‎

‎The air shattered like fragile glass as Alistair took a single step. He arrived before Damon in less than an instant, his spear thrusting at the unruly prince’s heart, throat, and brain with lethal intent.

‎

‎Damon watched the spear inching closer as if it were in slow motion, before he shifted his centre of gravity, deftly tilting his body to the side at three different instances.

‎

‎Alistair’s spear punched through the very air itself at the three points his spear had thrusted, imploded it on itself, before exploding outwards with concussive force.

‎

‎But that concussive force might have as well been a light breeze to Alistair and Damon as both combatants ignored it entirely.

‎

‎Alistair’s spear twisted in his grasp, recalibrating mid-thrust. The attack transformed into a horizontal slash, slicing toward Damon’s chest.

‎

‎Damon moved once more, his motions fluid and unhurried. He stepped back with graceful ease, the spear’s edge passing mere inches from his chest.

‎

‎Alistair and Damon blurred across the landscape, their figures dissolving into golden and silver streaks of motion.

‎

‎The air trembled under their speed, each motion tearing through space with sonic burst. The gold and silver figures clashed against each other, their impact detonating through the field with bone-rattling shockwaves. Yet, despite the unending clashes, both of them refused to falter, even for a heartbeat.

‎

‎[Upthrust]

‎

‎Alistair’s spear thrusted at Damon jaw, but a slender dagger appeared in the unruly prince’s hand which he deadly places in the way of the spear’s tip.

‎

‎Clang!

‎

‎An earth shattering sound rang out like a sonorous bell as spider web cracks appeared on the ground, before the ground ultimately turned into a ravine as dust and debris spiraled into a storm.

‎

‎Yet, despite the apocalyptic force, none of the combatants faltered. Unfortunately for Damon though, Alistair was using a a technique while he simply blocked with pure strength, so he was slowly getting pushed back by the remnant force of the Upthrust.

‎

‎Damon decided to abandon his current position. Moving with seemingly effortless grace he slipped his dagger away from Alistair’s spear while shifting his body to the side, making Alistair overextend, before cathing the boy’s shoulder and attempting to smash his knee in his guts.

‎

‎However, attempting was the keyword here. Alistair managed to react in time and blocked Damon’s knee with his palm causing a dull shockwave to echo between them.

‎

‎Unfortunately for Alistair however, the knee smash was merely a feint. Damon pivoted with his knee in Alistair’s grasp and kicked at the side of Alistair’s head.

‎

‎His boot connected with Alistair’s head with a bang, sending the young man flying for a few kilometers, crashing through multiple trees as if they were nothing but air before ultimately coming to a stop after a few bounces on the ground.

‎

‎Damon’s figure also vanished from his spot a fraction of a second later, leaving a faint afterimage in his and the sound of the ground at his earlier spot exploding under the force of his motion in his wake.

‎

‎Seeing Damon’s approach, Alistair’s Aether pulsed violently, the energy within him radiating outward in rhythmic waves that bled into the surrounding sky. The sheer pressure of his energy distorted the air with a golden light, as his strength increased to new heights.

‎

‎’That’s the protagonist for you.’ Damon mused. If Damon and Anastasia hadn’t been present, Alistair would have been the only one with an Omega ranked physique. And after his struggle with Kaal during the finals, he would never struggle against any peer, because he was going to outgrow them by leaps and bounds after that.

‎Unfortunately for Alistair, that wasn’t the case anymore. Sure Alistair’s strength increased even further, but was Damon scared? Not in the slightest.

‎

‎Damon mirrored Alistair’s move, his aether exploded violently within his veins, augmenting his tendons, bones, flesh and skin. His eyes glowed with a silver sheen bypassing even the disguise of the mask he wore.

‎

‎The distance between both combatants seemingly ceased to exist the moment they took a single step. Just as their weapons were an inch away from clashing however, Damon’a eyes narrowed.

‎

‎His body blurred backward in a burst of speed. Within an instant, he was over a kilometer away, appearing to move so fast as if he flickered in and out of existence.

‎

‎The moment Damon did, another Alistair appeared to the right of where he had been standing a fraction of a moment ago, his spear piercing through where Damon had been.

‎

‎’Damn, how could I have forgotten he could go invisible?’ Damon thought wryly. After Alistair broke through to the Zeta- rank, he gained the ability to make light hard light constructs, and his attacks were particularly effective against dark attributed energies. Not only that, he could also go invisible.

‎

‎If Damon’s perception hasn’t caught the displacement of air at the last moment, Alistair would have been the one to draw first blood.

‎

‎"Invisibility huh?" Damon tilted his head at Alistair. "A very neat ability to have."

‎

‎Alistair merely smiled wryly. "But it still didn’t manage to work on you, did it?" He was increasingly getting unnerved by this young man.

‎

‎"Why of course it didn’t." Damon said. "Didn’t I tell you, I am the strongest." He shrugged, as if it was the most normal thing in the world.

‎

‎Alistair didn’t answer with words, instead, a circular golden construct of light appeared beneath his feet, after which he soared a few kilometers into the air at blinding speed.

‎

‎"I beg to disagree with that statement." Alistair finally replied as dozens of hard light weapons, then hundreds, and finally thousands, materialized everywhere around him.

‎

‎"Let’s see if you’re worthy of that title." Not a moment after Alistair spoke, the thousands of hard light constructs shot towards Damon at hypersonic speeds with a flex of his will.

‎

‎Damon watched the annihilating tide of weapons appeared before him without a change in his indifferent expression. His glowing silver eyes relaxed to the point of uncaring.

‎

‎Some of the stronger individuals who perceived time at a fraction of its actual speed were shocked at the audacity of Damon to face such an unending tide of weapons without any fear or actions.

‎

‎"Why is he just standing there?" A man muttered in confusion

‎

‎"Perhaps he is accepting his fate, Edmond." A woman beside him replied.

‎

‎"Does his face look like that of someone who is accepting his fate, Lizzy?" Edmond questioned.

‎

‎"Whether it looks like it or not, it doesn’t matter, he has lost, period." Lizzy said in a matter of fact tone.

‎

‎The two who had never took their eyes off the match in the first place allowed time to resume for them at its normal speed, right in time when the constructs at the forefront reached Damon.

‎

‎A lethal shaped trident pierced into his head, as a lot of the other weapons pierced through his body.

‎

‎The shock was evident on everyone’s faces as the light constructs passed through Damon’s body as if he wasn’t even present there.

‎

‎"Right, I forgot he could phase through matter." Edmond muttered under his breath amidst Lizzy’s quiet curses.

‎

‎The light constructs utterly annihilated the surroundings where Damon stood, but the unruly prince stood entirely untouched.

‎

‎However, the next thing Damon did, baffled everyone as he reached out with blinding speed and caught a spear shaped construct, twisted his body around to negate the momentum of the construct, and threw it back at Alistair at an even faster velocity.

‎

‎The construct seemingly vanished the moment it left Damon’s hand, its pointy tip reappearing before Alistair’s eye in the next instant.
