Chapter 661: Chapter 661: She’s My Sister (3)
’The instructor sincerely felt he was the best subordinate in the world!’
When Vera Xavier came in and saw the large group of instructors, she felt that something was off. The situation wasn’t what she’d had in mind. She thought the instructor would just call Sheldon Caldwell downstairs for her, but instead, he’d brought her straight upstairs.
Besides, the reason she’d come up with for finding Sheldon Caldwell had seemed plausible enough, but hearing it come out of the instructor’s mouth now, it just sounded so strange!
Sheldon Caldwell looked up and saw Vera Xavier. He didn’t think much of it at first, but then he turned and saw the gossipy looks from the employees below. That’s when he knew something was wrong.
’He was a smart man, so of course, he knew they were all getting the wrong idea. And that little punk who brought Vera Xavier up here—was he deliberately trying to cause trouble for me?!’
If it were any other matter, Sheldon Caldwell wouldn’t have cared if they misunderstood. He’d let them think whatever they wanted. But how could he let their minds wander about something like this?
Not only would Nathaniel Nathan beat him up if he found out, but if word got out, it would be bad for Vera Xavier’s reputation.
So he stood up and thwacked the instructor who had brought Vera Xavier over on the head. "What are you blabbering about? She’s my sister!"
The instructor was a bit stunned. Sheldon Caldwell felt that wasn’t insurance enough, so he added, "She’s also Nathaniel Nathan’s girlfriend. Tell me, what kind of nonsense are you all thinking about all day instead of focusing on your training!"
All the instructors were momentarily dumbfounded. Every employee in the company knew the famous name of Nathaniel Nathan, but since they didn’t work directly under him, they weren’t privy to the details of his life.
Now, hearing that Vera Xavier was actually Nathaniel Nathan’s girlfriend, the instructor who had brought her over finally understood. They all knew about the rivalry between Sheldon Caldwell and Nathaniel Nathan, which suddenly explained why Sheldon had been giving Vera a hard time.
The instructor scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "I wasn’t thinking anything," he said with a laugh. "I’ll be heading back now!"
Fearing Sheldon Caldwell would punish him, he bolted.
Sheldon Caldwell grimaced. The other instructors nearby chuckled awkwardly and were about to leave when he said in a low, serious voice, "No one is to speak a word of what happened tonight. Otherwise, you can expect to be put in solitary confinement!"
Hearing this, the instructors immediately stammered out their assurances and then quickly scattered.
Vera Xavier saw that these instructors were nothing like their strict selves during training, and she couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh. She was suddenly reminded of an essay she had studied, and a phrase from it seemed to describe them perfectly: ’the most endearing people.’
To avoid suspicion, Sheldon Caldwell left the door open. He turned and asked her, "What are you doing here?"
Vera Xavier knew she couldn’t stay long, so she got straight to the point. "When I got back yesterday, Susan Caldwell came to find me. She said her mother was hospitalized because of me. I just wanted to ask... is your mother’s condition serious?"
Although Sheldon Caldwell liked to fool around and would occasionally joke with Vera Xavier, he didn’t actually know her all that well. He just found her interesting and knew she didn’t take any slights lying down.
But now, he could see the worry in her eyes. He knew she was genuinely concerned about Winter Sullivan. Otherwise, given her personality, she would have never come to find him like this.
