Chapter 662: Chapter 662: She Is My Sister (4)

A realization dawned on Sheldon Caldwell. Yesterday, Susan Caldwell had clearly heard that Winter Sullivan was injured, but she hadn’t offered any help at the time. After he arrived at school, she hadn’t even come to ask him about their mother’s condition.

Susan Caldwell was his own sister, yet she showed no concern for their mother. In contrast, Vera Xavier had only met Winter Sullivan twice, yet upon hearing from Susan that she was sick, Vera had done everything she could to find out how she was. That was the fundamental difference between them.

Sheldon Caldwell sighed softly and said, "My mom just has a minor injury. It’s nothing serious, so don’t worry."

His words confirmed Vera Xavier’s suspicions. She first breathed a sigh of relief, but then her brows furrowed slightly. "She’s injured? Not sick?"

"Did Susan tell you my mom got sick because of you?" Sheldon Caldwell voiced the question on his mind.

Vera Xavier shrugged. "Yes."

Vera inwardly scorned Susan Caldwell once again. ’To Susan, it seems anyone and anything is just a tool to be used. She has no sense of family loyalty and will stop at nothing to get what she wants.’

Sheldon Caldwell took a deep breath, his expression darkening. But Vera Xavier was, after all, still an outsider. He wouldn’t bad-mouth his own sister in front of her. Inwardly, however, he was utterly disappointed in Susan Caldwell.

After a long moment, he said, "I see."

Seeing his expression, Vera Xavier could vaguely guess his thoughts. ’But this can’t be rushed. Susan Caldwell has always been an expert at faking it; for years, she’s maintained an excellent image in the eyes of the Caldwell Family. Exposing her true colors will have to be a slow process.’

Now that she knew Winter Sullivan was all right, there was no reason to stay. Just as she was about to head back to her dorm, Sheldon Caldwell suddenly asked, "Do you want to go see my mom?"

He paused, stunned by his own question. It sounded a bit unreasonable; after all, Vera Xavier and Winter Sullivan had only met twice.

He had only asked because he had a faint feeling that a visit from Vera Xavier might cheer his mother up. This whole incident had been a huge blow to Winter Sullivan, after all.

"Am I allowed to?" Vera Xavier countered.

Sheldon Caldwell smiled. "Let’s go."

With that, he strode toward the door. The moment he stepped out, he saw several heads peeking around the frame. They scattered the instant they saw him.

Sheldon Caldwell shot them a glare. "Since you all have so much energy and nothing better to do, let’s say one thousand push-ups each. Don’t even think about getting up until you’re done. I’ll be back later to check on your progress."

Wails of despair erupted all around. Vera Xavier’s mouth twitched. She suddenly realized that Sheldon Caldwell must have gone easy on the students when he made their training plans.

But she could also see that the instructors were still incredibly respectful of Sheldon Caldwell.

Sheldon Caldwell glared at them. "What are you wailing about? Get to it!"

The instructors immediately dropped to the ground and started doing push-ups.

For some reason, Vera Xavier felt a secret thrill watching the usually imposing instructors get punished.

Sheldon Caldwell led her downstairs. Since they were closer to the back gate, he took her straight out that way.

During military training, the school security was tight to prevent students from sneaking out.
