Chapter 243: Corpse Of A Herald

Chapter 243: 243: Corpse Of A Herald

Simon had his reasons for choosing such an aggressive method against Jorra and Merath.

It might seem foolish of him to ask what their main goal was.

And it might also seem foolish of him to threaten them.

But Simon did these two things for control.

After rejecting Merath’s assistance to evolve his bloodline, he would have no business with the duo, and they would have no concrete reason to interact with one another.

And Simon did not want that.

Since it was still possible that both Merath and Jorra could become his enemies in the future if they knew that he killed Thorgan, Simon decided that it would be better if he kept both of them close to him.

Keep your friends close, and your potential enemies closer.

Him offering to help was not just too help both of them, but to observe them and to also see if he could benefit from ’helping’ the duo.

As for why he threatened them and showed off his dense killing intent?

He did that to show that he could not be messed with.

Merath and Jorra believed themselves to be superior to him, and if things remained that way, they would always look down on him and it could ruin a lot of things in the future.

He needed to assert himself and elevate his standing in the hearts of Merath and Jorra. He needed to make them wary of him.

This was why he unleashed a fraction of his killing intent which instantly overpowered the killing intent of the duo.

Jorra and Merath’s expression froze the moment they sensed Simon’s killing intent.

Compared to their killing intent which was like the flame of a candle, Simon’s killing intent was like the flames of a burning tree.

They subconsciously called back their killing intent, but Simon’s killing intent remained.

They were both shaken by how dense and powerful Simon’s killing intent was, and they could not help but wonder how in the world Simon had such a terrifying killing intent.

Even Lilith was a little bit surprised by Simon’s killing intent, but it just further confirmed her belief that Simon was actually an old monster inhabiting this unfortunate child’s body.

No child should be able to emit such terrifying killing intent.

However, Lilith still had a slight frown sensing Simon’s killing intent.

’Why does it feel like he’s still significantly holding back his killing intent? This is not his full killing intent?’

Lilith was even more curious about Simon’s true identity, and she could not help but wonder if Simon might actually be able to carry out her father’s plans.

A few seconds later, Simon’s killing intent dissipated like smoke, and the air between him and the duo became extremely tense.

Simon could sense the gazes of those nearby and from some powerful individuals who just swept their perception across the academy because of his killing intent.

The perception left as quickly as it arrived, and Simon’s expression was still one of indifference as he gazed at Merath and Jorra.

“Who are you?”

Merath asked this question with a solemn tone and expression behind her mask.

Simon shrugged indifferently. “Just a guy trying to become powerful.”

Jorra and Merath said nothing and just stared at Simon with narrowed eyes.

Simon chuckled softly as he looked at these two children.

“I’m not here to become enemies with you guys. You guys are Daemons, and just like you said, you’re stronger than me… for now.”

Jorra and Merath could not help but twitch their eyes at his last words.

“Tell me what your main goal is, and if you want to, I’ll assist you in achieving it. As you can see…”

He paused briefly and looked at Merath with his lips curling into a smile behind his mask.

“… I am strong.”

Merath’s lips twitched the moment she heard these three words from Simon.

She had told Simon- “We are strong.”- when they first met. Now, Simon was using her words against her.

Merath and Jorra remained silent for a moment, but Simon could see the killing intent and slight flashes of anger in their eyes.

A few seconds later, Jorra spoke.

“I think it’ll be better if I just kill you, right here and now.”

Simon chuckled softly, then he nonchalantly shrugged.

“If you’re going to kill me, then make sure you kill me in one strike and make sure I’m completely dead.”

“If you don’t, then you might have to find a way to escape from the clan before the end of today.”

Jorra’s eyes flashed with a dangerous light, and Simon narrowed his eyes when he saw the air behind Jorra vibrate intensely, almost like something was about to appear in thin air.

Simon knew that he was about to attack, but Merath held his shoulder, and Jorra became calm after a few seconds.

She looked at Simon with a light frown behind her mask.

“If you expose us, we’ll also expose you and tell the clan that you’re a Daemon.”

Simon chuckled softly. “I’m sure the clan would be more interested in two true Daemons compared to me who is not even worthy enough to join The Abyss.”

Merath stared at Simon for a few seconds, then she released a soft sigh.

“I can’t believe I was thinking of helping you some minutes ago.”

Simon rolled his eyes with an amused expression.

“Oh please, I won’t be surprised if your plan was to make me reliant on you. After all, I would be indebted to you if you fully awakened my Daemon bloodline.”

Merath did not reply and just glanced at Jorra.

“You can see Jorra’s cursed spirit, can’t you? You refused to answer any of our questions, and the only reason is if you can see his cursed spirit.”

Merath already put two and two together, and she knew that Simon could see the Lie Eater. If he could not, there was no reason for him to always dodge their questions.

Jorra already had this thought, and it made him to feel more anger toward Simon.

Simon indifferently shrugged. “Who knows.”

Merath’s lips curled up slightly, but in her eyes was a flicker of annoyance and anger.

“I guess that answers my question.”

Simon said nothing and just kept on staring at Merath.

“Since you want to be involved, then I’ll tell you our main goal.”

Merath paused and inhaled deeply, then she spoke.

“We believe that there’s a corpse of a Herald in the clan, and we’re to verify this information.”

“…”

Simon was immediately stunned and could not believe what he just heard.
