Chapter 232: 232: Soul Mirror Demons

’I have never heard of this ability to see a person’s heart. What does it mean? How does it work? How is she able to see that my original heart is not like a demon’s heart?’

’Just what is her race and how powerful is she?’

’There are so many questions I want to ask her.’

Simon remained silent for a few seconds after Lilith spoke about his heart, then he decided to speak.

[I don’t actually understand what you mean by the heart, good, and evil. These are terms I’m not familiar with, so I don’t know what to even say.]

[Maybe I’m just unique. After all, I was able to awaken a portion of my Daemon bloodline.]

Simon decided to feign ignorance at her words.

Tell her that he was actually a human or the hero who reincarnated as a demon?

Absolutely not!

There was no way he was going to do such a thing.

[Hmm.] Lilith hummed softly, but she chose to say nothing else.

[So, are you going to tell me why you have the ability of the Devourers when you don’t have the bloodline of the Devourers?]

[I have been very curious about this for a long time, and I wanted to observe and see if you would show me the answers. But after hearing about the Devourer’s blood essence from that interrogator, I can put two and two together, and I’m fairly certain that you drank the blood essence.]

[I also don’t know how you evolved your lowly demon cat bloodline into the Sky Tiger’s bloodline, but I’m guessing that it has something to do with the Devourer’s blood essence.]

[The Devourers are… the most unique of us all after all. Common sense and extensive knowledge does not work on them.]

Simon raised a brow in intrigue.

’What does she mean?’ He was curious.

[But what I don’t know is why you don’t have an iota of their bloodline or even their smell.]

[So, tell me, mortal… How do you have the ability to Devour?]

Simon remained silent for a moment before he then spoke.

[I don’t know. I drank the Devourer’s blood essence, and I nearly died as a result. I went unconscious, and when I woke up, I instinctively knew that I could consume corpses and benefit from consuming or devouring them.]

[That’s all I know.]

Lilith instantly scoffed at his words. [I might have been fooled if I didn’t just watch you fool that Interrogator.]

Simon chuckled softly. He didn’t actually expect his words to work, but he just had to try and take a gamble.

[Will you tell me what a Soul Mirror Demon is?]

Even though he knew, he just had to ask to keep up the pretence.

Lilith scoffed once again. [You don’t even want to admit that what you said is a lie. It seems you’re a natural born liar and manipulator.]

’Nope, Lilith. I’m not. I’m just learning how to do all these things. I’m not perfect at lying or manipulating.’

’And obviously, there’s no way I’m going to admit that what I said about how I have Devour is a lie. In the future, I can use it and say that I never said that what I said was a lie… That’s if I I need to.]

This time around, Simon’s lips curled up slightly as he found a sort of satisfaction in annoying Lilith.

When Lilith saw that Simon was no longer saying anything, she could not help but speak.

[So, you’re really not going to tell me the truth about how you have the ability of the Devourers?]

[But I’ve answered your question. What else do you want from me?]

[The truth.]

[That is the truth.]

Lilith sneered. [Even the dead would awaken in shock at your shamelessness and ability to effortlessly lie.]

Simon nonchalantly shrugged. [If you say so.]

Lilith scoffed, and to his surprise, she began to tell him about the Soul Mirror Demons despite knowing that he had lied about how he had the Devourers ability.

[Soul Mirror Demons are demons who delve into the path of the soul and mind.]

[If the Shadowgrave Clan is able to get a Soul Mirror Demon to assist them, then all they need to do is tell it what questions to ask you, and the moment it asks these questions while touching you, its eyes would show your memories of things related to that question.]

[So, if they ask you- Did you kill Thorgan- the Soul Mirror Demon would show everybody what you know about the question.]

[Even if you don’t want to answer, it would dig deep into your soul and memories and draw out what you know about the question.]

[When that happens, everybody would know that you killed the descendant of the Shadow Monarch.]

Simon already knew this, so he was not surprised by what she said.

If the clan was able to hire a Soul Mirror Demon to find out the truth and question all their suspects, including him, then the chances of him getting exposed was very high.

Exceedingly high.

What he did with Interrogator Zebos where he mixed with truths with lies, and acted perfectly would not work on the Soul Mirror Demon.

’There is a way for me to prevent the Soul Mirror Demon from seeing the truth, but if I do that, then it means I’m basically screaming that I’m guilty… Unless I decide to become deaf and blind before the Soul Mirror Demon arrives.’

’If I cannot hear the question or see a writing of the question, then he won’t be able to find out the truth… But I’m obviously not doing that.’

Simon could not help but release a frustrated sigh.

He had not expected the clan to go this far. He believed that once he was done with this investigation, that would be all, but it seemed the clan was willing to use a lot of resources to get to the bottom of the deaths of Pellin and Thorgan.

’And the worst thing is that I don’t know when the Soul Mirror Demon might arrive. If I had a timeframe, I’ll be able to make a suitable plan. But I don’t, and this makes things a lot more difficult for me.’

With the looming threat of the Soul Mirror Demon, Simon felt like he was truly on a knife’s edge.
