Chapter 231: 231: Can You See My Soul & Heart?

After leaving the interrogation room, Simon made sure that his expression was one of relief with a tinge of visible wariness in his eyes as he walked to the exit of the Shadow Inquiry Hall.

Sometimes, he greeted the interrogators and investigators he walked past, and sometimes he seemed lost in thought.

After some minutes, he finally reached the door leading outside the building, and he stepped out of it.

He wore his broken smile mask, but his gaze remained the same- relief with a tinge of anxiousness.

As he walked, he had a seemingly absent-minded gaze.

His destination was the academy, and the moment he entered the academy, his expression changed to one of pure indifference and extreme calmness as he no longer sensed the shadows of anybody following him.

’Very meticulous of them.’

Simon’s lips curled up slightly as he thought of Zebos and the others who were involved in solving the case of Pellin and Thorgan’s death.

They had secretly sent two people to follow him, and these two were very skilled.

But through Shadow Sense, he was able to locate them and he knew their movements.

’I guess the academy is off grounds for them, but I should still be careful. There’s nothing that says there won’t be people in the academy watching me.’

A few seconds after he had this thought, Lilith surprisingly spoke.

[You know that you’re in big trouble, right?]

Simon raised a brow and looked at his left chest in surprise.

[You’ve been quiet for so long. I thought maybe you had died.]

[Maybe it’s because you’ve not spoken to me in a long while. If you want me to talk or you want to talk to me, talk. I don’t bite… Most times.]

Simon had a strange expression hearing her last words, but he just pushed it to the back of his mind.

[It’s because I don’t know what to do with you, yet.]

[I can say the same thing about you.]

Simon could not help but curl his lips, and Lilith scoffed.

[I hope you’re able to laugh when the Soul Mirror Demon arrives. I’ll be very interested to know how you’ll get yourself out of that predicament.]

[Do you even know what a Soul Mirror Demon is?]

’Do I know what a Soul Mirror Demon is? Of course I do. Those bastards nearly caused a rift between me and my comrades back then… But now that I think about it, maybe it was at that time I should have taken note of a few things the Soul Mirror Demon showed us.’

’Maybe I would have been more prepared against their attacks.’

Simon shook his head slightly after having these thoughts.

’That’s in the past. It’s over. What’s important is now.’

[What is a Soul Mirror Demon?]

Simon decided to ask since it’ll be very strange to Lilith if he knew about Soul Mirror Demons which were one of the rarest demon species in the entire demon realm.

Lilith hummed a little.

[If you want me to tell you what a Soul Mirror Demon is, then I want you to answer one of my questions.]

Simon raised a brow. [What question?]

[How do you have the ability of the Devourers when you don’t have their bloodline or smell like one?]

Simon’s expression and eyes did not fluctuate or change in the slightest when he heard this.

This was something he knew was going to happen eventually, and he had been wondering if Lilith would ever bring it up or question him about it.

He did not want to bring it up or ask if she knew about the Devourers or Devour since that would be him exposing himself.

Although he expected this question to arrive one day, it was also a problem to Simon.

He didn’t trust Lilith in the slightest, and he did not like the fact that he could not hide what he did from her.

No matter what he did, she would know and could see it, and Simon did not want that since it meant that she’d know everything about him while he only knew little to nothing about her.

’The only advantage I have over her is that she doesn’t know about I reincarnated and my Seven Stars Blessing… or does she?’

’Wait. Now that I think about it, she said that she could not see Sunless’ heart and soul. How did I not register what she said?’

’I was so focused on wanting to know what she meant when she said that Sunless was strange because she couldn’t see her heart and soul.’

’My Sea of Consciousness is in my soul, and my Seven Stars Blessing is in my Sea of Consciousness which means it’s in my soul. If she can look into my soul, then she might be able to see my Seven Stars Blessing.’

’This… is not good.’

Simon’s expression became grave as all these thoughts flashed across his mind in just three seconds.

He exhaled deeply, then he decided to ask about his soul before giving a response to her question about Devour.

[Can you see my soul?]

[Hmm?] Lilith was taken aback.

[Why are you asking if I can see your soul? The matters of the soul should not concern you, mortal.]

’Yes it does, Lilith. Yes, it does.’ Simon thought solemnly, then he gave a response.

[You said that you couldn’t see Sunless’ soul and heart, so I’m wondering if you can see my soul… and my heart?]

Lilith rolled her eyes. [Now you’re adding your heart to it. You sure know how to ask questions but don’t want to be asked any question.]

Simon remained silent, and Lilith scoffed.

[I cannot see your soul. Something is blocking my gaze from seeing your soul, and unfortunately, my current strength is not able to pierce this veil. I can only see the surface of your soul.]

[It was something I planned on asking you about it in the future, but I doubt you’d know much about it considering that you’re just sixteen years old and a mortal.]

Simon was instantly relieved, but he didn’t let it show in his expression or through his body.

However, Lilith’s next words nearly made him freeze.

[But your heart is strange… You don’t seem to have the heart of a demon. It’s not inherently evil, but good. It’s like… a saint’s heart. It’s like your heart was a white canvas but black ink was poured on it, causing it to have the outward appearance of evil but the original appearance is of good.]

[It’s strange… Very strange.]
