The BL System Won't Let Me Rest!

Chapter 51: I choose you...

Rin remained in the library long after the footsteps disappeared.

The white feather rested between his fingers. It was impossibly light. Almost weightless and yet his hand felt as though he were holding something much heavier.

He stared at it. The memory still lingered. A dark room. A crying child. A voice whispering:

"Don’t let him become a god."

Rin closed his eyes. The scene returned. Not completely. Only fragments.

A wooden floor. Rain against a window. Someone kneeling beside the child.

A hand resting gently on his head.

And then— nothing.

Rin opened his eyes.

"Who was that?"

No answer. He looked toward the door. Kaelith was gone.

Good. Rin wasn’t ready to explain what he’d seen. Especially because he didn’t understand it himself.

He looked back at the feather. It was white. But not like an ordinary feather.

There was a faint golden line running through its center. Rin turned it over. A tiny symbol was engraved near the bottom.

He recognized it. The same symbol that had appeared beside the fragment of his divine name.

AEL.

Rin’s breath caught.

"So this belongs to me."

The feather warmed. A faint image appeared above it. A person standing beneath a white tree.

Rin couldn’t see their face. They were holding something. A small bundle.

No. A child. Rin stepped closer. The image flickered. The person turned. For one second, Rin saw the child’s face.

His heart stopped. It was him. Not Aelion. Not Rin. Something older. Something before both names.

The image vanished. Rin dropped the feather.

"No."

He backed away. That couldn’t be right. The child in the memory looked exactly like him. But he wasn’t a baby.

He was perhaps seven or eight. And someone had been holding him as though protecting him. Rin crouched and picked up the feather.

"Who was I before Aelion?"

The question felt wrong. Not because he didn’t want the answer. Because some part of him already knew that answer would hurt. A soft sound came from the doorway.

Rin turned. Eryon stood there. His expression was unusually serious.

"You shouldn’t be here."

Rin immediately hid the feather.

"I could say the same about you."

Eryon smiled faintly.

"I was looking for you."

"Why?"

"Because the God felt something."

Rin froze.

"What?"

"Your memory."

Rin stared.

"What about it?"

Eryon entered the room.

"He felt the moment you touched the feather."

Rin looked down.

"So he knows."

"He knows something awakened."

"Does he know what?"

"No."

Rin relaxed slightly. Eryon studied him.

"What did you see?"

Rin hesitated.

He could tell Eryon. Eryon was one of the few people who actually knew something about his forgotten past but something stopped him. The memory felt too personal. Too incomplete.

"I saw a child."

Eryon waited.

"Someone was protecting him."

"Who?"

"I don’t know."

Eryon became still. Rin noticed.

"You know something."

Eryon looked away.

"Not enough."

"That’s not an answer."

"It’s the truth."

Rin watched him carefully. The bell didn’t sound. Eryon wasn’t lying.

He really didn’t know enough. Rin exhaled.

"What did you feel when my memory awakened?"

Eryon looked at him.

"Fear."

Rin frowned.

"From you?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because I remember what happened after."

Rin’s heart tightened.

"What happened?"

Eryon didn’t answer immediately.

"You became Aelion."

"I know that."

"Before that..."

He stopped. Rin waited.

"You weren’t a god."

Rin’s eyes narrowed.

"Then what was I?"

Eryon looked directly at him.

"I don’t know."

That answer surprised Rin. Eryon continued:

"I met you after."

"After what?"

"After you had already become something that shouldn’t have existed."

Rin stared.

"What does that mean?"

Eryon shook his head.

"I can’t explain it."

"Can’t or won’t?"

"Can’t."

The bell remained silent.

Rin believed him. That frightened him more. Because Eryon genuinely didn’t know. If Eryon didn’t know... who did?

Rin looked at the feather.

"Did you ever see this symbol?"

Eryon stared at it. His expression changed.

"Where did you get that?"

"Someone left it for me."

Eryon reached for it. Rin hesitated before handing it over. Eryon turned the feather in his fingers.

"I haven’t seen this symbol in a very long time."

"What is it?"

Eryon looked at Rin.

"Your first seal."

Rin’s heart skipped.

"My first?"

"Yes."

"What did it seal?"

Eryon slowly returned the feather.

"Not your power."

Rin stared at it.

"Then what?"

"Your origin."

The words seemed to make the room colder.

Rin whispered:

"Why would my origin need to be sealed?"

Eryon looked toward the window.

"Because there were people who believed that if you remembered what you were before becoming Aelion..."

He paused.

"...you would never become Aelion at all."

Rin’s eyes widened.

"Someone tried to stop me from becoming a god."

"Yes."

"Who?"

"I don’t know."

Rin almost laughed.

"Everyone knows a piece of this story and nobody knows the whole thing."

Eryon gave him a tired smile.

"That’s because the people who knew the whole thing are gone."

Rin looked at him.

"Except the God."

Eryon didn’t answer. Rin understood.

The God might know more. But he had already told Rin that some answers had to wait. And now Rin knew why. There were memories even the God might not possess.

Memories from before Aelion. Before their first meeting. Before Eryon. Before everything. Rin looked at the feather again.

"Someone knew me before all of you."

Eryon nodded.

"Yes."

"Who?"

"I don’t know."

Rin sighed.

"Of course."

That night, Rin couldn’t stop thinking about the memory. He returned to his room and placed the feather on the table.

It remained completely still. He sat across from it.

"Okay."

He folded his arms.

"Let’s try again."

Nothing.

"Show me the child."

The feather glowed. Rin’s breath caught. The room disappeared.

Darkness. Rain. A small room. Rin was there. But he wasn’t watching from outside. He was inside the memory.

He could feel the cold floor beneath his feet. He could hear the rain. And he could see the child.

Himself. The little boy sat beside the window. He was crying. Rin moved closer.

"Who are you?"

The child didn’t answer. Of course he couldn’t. This wasn’t a conversation.

It was a memory. A woman entered the room. Rin couldn’t see her face.

She knelt beside the child.

"It’s okay."

The child looked up.

"Will they come back?"

The woman hesitated.

"No."

The child’s face crumpled. Rin’s chest hurt. The woman hugged him.

"They won’t."

"Why?"

"Because they’re afraid of what you will become."

The memory shifted. The woman stood. She placed her hand against the child’s forehead.

A golden symbol appeared. The same symbol as the feather. Then she whispered:

"Sleep."

The child’s eyes closed. The memory began fading. But before everything disappeared, Rin heard one final sentence.

"You must never remember the name they gave you."

Rin opened his eyes. He was back in his room. His breathing was heavy. The feather was burning with golden light.

Rin stared at it.

"They gave me a name."

Not Aelion. Something before Aelion. Something hidden. And someone had deliberately erased it. He reached toward the feather. The moment his fingers touched it, a single word appeared in the air. Not a name. A title.

THE UNNAMED CHILD.

Rin stared.

"What?"

The words vanished. Then another appeared.

BEFORE LOVE, THERE WAS CHOICE.

Rin frowned.

"Choice?"

The feather went dark. He sat back. The phrase made no sense. And yet it felt important.

Before he had become the God of Love... he had possessed another authority or perhaps another purpose...

Something connected to choice. Freedom. The ability to decide. Rin looked toward the window.

"Is that why someone was afraid of me?"

No answer. But the System appeared.

[DIVINE MEMORY FRAGMENT RECOVERED.]

Rin stared.

"Show me."

The interface flickered.

[MEMORY CLASSIFICATION: PRE-AELION.]

Rin’s eyes widened.

"Pre-Aelion."

[YES.]

"How many fragments exist?"

The System paused.

[UNKNOWN.]

"Can you access them?"

[PARTIALLY.]

"Then show me the next one."

The screen remained blank. Rin waited. Nothing.

"Why?"

A message appeared.

[YOU NEED TO REMEMBER THE FIRST CHOICE.]

Rin frowned.

"What first choice?"

No answer. The System disappeared. Rin leaned back.

"The first choice..."

He repeated the words. Then something clicked. The child in the memory had been asked something.

The woman had said:

"They are afraid of what you will become."

But the child had answered something before the memory ended. Rin hadn’t heard it. Not completely. He closed his eyes.

He tried to remember. The room. The rain. The woman. The child.

Then—

a whisper.

A tiny voice.

"I choose..."

Rin’s eyes opened.

"I choose..."

The memory stopped there. Rin stared into the darkness. What had the child chosen?

Love? Power? Life? Someone? A world?

He didn’t know but he understood one thing.

Whatever that choice had been... it had shaped everything that came afterward.

Aelion. The God of Love.

The curse. The million lives. Perhaps even his death. Rin stood.

"I’ll remember."

He looked at the feather.

"But not because someone tells me what happened."

He closed his hand around it.

"I’ll remember because it belongs to me."

Far away, beyond the fortress and beyond the borders of the mortal world, the God stood alone.

He had felt the memory. He knew what Rin had seen.

The child. The room. The woman. The seal. The first choice.

His hands tightened.

"Not yet."

He looked toward the distant horizon.

For centuries, he had feared Rin remembering but now he understood something worse.

Rin wasn’t simply recovering his memories. He was beginning to remember the part of himself that existed before anyone gave him a divine title.

And that part... even the God feared.

Because he remembered what happened the last time Rin had made that choice.

The God closed his eyes.

"Please..."

His voice broke.

"Don’t remember it yet."

But the world didn’t listen. And somewhere inside Rin’s soul... a forgotten voice whispered the beginning of an answer.

"I choose you."
