The Archmetamagician: The Weave Collapses Again
Chapter 343
The Weave was an ordered medium for magic, as well as an advanced network for both energy and information. The goddess of magic was its administrator and energy core, bearing pressures beyond anything mortals could imagine.
Although Sakkors was an Artifact, his capabilities were still far removed from those of a deity.
Fortunately, the Micro-Weave in its current form wasn't particularly "advanced." It didn't need to provide highly integrated magical interfaces for spellcasters to access. Its primary functions were stabilizing Magic Power and linking minds, and that came with advantages of its own.
It was more discreet, easier to expand, and wasn't limited to spellcasters...
Anser carefully studied the Character Sheet for the mythallar, and an idea gradually began to take shape.
Wasn't this Character Sheet basically a ready-made control panel? And the d20 was essentially a super-server whose data was extraordinarily precise and had never once been wrong.
The changes the die had undergone recently also proved that it possessed tremendous potential and adaptability. Its only drawback was that it had no intelligence of its own. It was merely a vessel for rules.
'I'll be the administrator and control permissions. Sakkors can handle development and maintenance, taking charge of the Micro-Weave's operation and growth, while the mythallar itself serves as the energy core and information relay...'
The more he thought about it, the more suitable the arrangement seemed. By distributing the Micro-Weave's burdens, its upper limits and potential would increase by at least dozens of times.
If everything were run the way the goddess of magic ran the Weave, he'd work himself to death. And the moment something happened to him, the entire Weave would crash along with him.
'Guess all that internet knowledge from my previous life didn't go to waste.'
'It'd be perfect if everyone connected to the Micro-Weave could have an interface similar to a Character Sheet.'
At that thought, he turned to look at Sakkors.
This was a great arcanist with an extraordinary wealth of knowledge and experience. All they had to do was upgrade "Rary's Telepathic Bond" to "Telepathy."
The 8th-level "Telepathy" spell could instantly share words, images, sounds, and other forms of sensory information, while allowing the target creature to understand them. It was far more impressive than any holographic projection.
"Master?" Sakkors began to feel uneasy when Anser kept staring at him without saying anything.
The white-haired, white-bearded old wizard looked so apprehensive that he even seemed a little pitiful.
"Tell me how you think we should develop it." Anser didn't reveal his own thoughts yet."
"I believe your decision to place the mythallar here was extremely wise. It would attract far too much attention on the Material Plane, making it easy for certain people to take notice of it."
"This extradimensional space is extraordinary. It must once have been extremely powerful, and even now, it's still protected by formidable divination magic. That black tower is the control hub..."
Anser was the master of this place, but he was merely its user. His knowledge was too shallow for him to understand many of its underlying principles, much less repair or expand it.
But once the Micro-Weave spread throughout the area, Sakkors gained a thorough understanding of everything here.
His idea was to merge the mythallar with the black tower, using the mythallar to replace the Celestial Ritual Array within it and become the extradimensional plane's energy and control center, while repairing and upgrading its magical arrays and defenses.
And he wasn't talking about just the black tower, but every magical effect spanning the entire plane.
This wasn't a floating city, but a floating plane—somewhat like a divine realm suspended among the multiverse's planes.
The key advantage was that this would conceal the existence of both the mythallar and Sakkors, making it much harder for his enemies to raid his home base!
This extradimensional plane existed attached to the Material Plane, while the Micro-Weave could easily cross planar boundaries, so its development wouldn't be affected in the slightest.
"Do as you said." Anser agreed with the approach as well.
"I'll need your cooperation."
"All right."
Once two people equally committed to playing it safe got together and worked out the details, they immediately got to work.
Sakkors took the lead on the actual implementation, while Anser granted authorization. He was like a leader who knew nothing about the technical side but held all the authority.
Anser asked everyone inside the black tower to leave, then brought the mythallar near it.
The mythallar trembled slightly before vanishing from where it stood, reappearing together with Anser at the Celestial Ritual Array beneath the black tower.
Anser looked up. The enormous crystal sphere floated at the center of the spherical magical array like the heart of a sea of stars, dazzling and magnificent. It actually fit the place quite well.
He teleported out, leaving everything that followed to Sakkors.
The sky over Holrewen suddenly flickered between light and dark before quickly returning to normal, but the concentration of Magic Power continued to rise, while its stability reached an astonishing level.
At one point, the island began to tremble. The shaking grew stronger and stronger, and the sea level actually began dropping around it, exposing towering cliffs along the island's edges.
"The sea is receding..."
"No, the island is flying!"
"..."
Everyone on the island was terrified, especially the residents of the recently established fishing village. They stared dumbfounded at everything around them, unable to believe their eyes.
However, the island only rose a little over a hundred meters before slowly settling back into its original position, sending waves surging outward.
It wasn't that the island couldn't fly. There was simply no need. This wasn't a floating city; practicality mattered more.
Anser kept his attention fixed on the mythallar's Character Sheet. Not even the slightest change could escape his notice.
The mythallar had completely taken control of everything in Holrewen. Functionally, it now encompassed every capability the black tower had possessed, and had even gained some new features.
The paradise mark of the Rod of Security had merged with the mythallar's Rary's mark, allowing its bearers to freely connect to the Micro-Weave. The number of marks that could exist depended on the mythallar's upper limit.
Creatures bearing the mark could also use the telepathic link to request entry to or departure from Holrewen. Sakkors, as administrator, could approve and execute those requests, eliminating the need for Anser to personally intervene with the Rod of Security.
With this, entering and leaving Holrewen was no longer such a hassle. Free travel back and forth had become a reality.
Of course, Anser had no intention of opening it up completely. Only people who had earned his trust, such as Bratt, Iris, and Stoll, would receive that privilege.
He idly turned the Rod of Security over in his hand. The thing wasn't much use anymore; control had already been transferred elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Sakkors hadn't been idle. After gaining complete control over Holrewen, he shifted his focus to the Micro-Weave.
The hidden, intangible three-dimensional magical network spread rapidly like a virus, carried along by the flow of Magic Power. Wherever it passed, raw magic became noticeably more stable, yet it caused no interference with either the Weave or the Shadow Weave.
The Micro-Weave was a composite energy matrix. Its connection to raw magic was weak, but its stabilizing effect was strong. It was nowhere near as overbearing as the Weave.
Since it required no complex weaving or construction, its rate of expansion was naturally extremely fast.
Anser closed his eyes and merged his mind with the mythallar. He immediately "saw" a flowing river of stars.
It stretched vast and boundless, formed from countless stars. Faint lines linked the stars together, sometimes breaking apart, sometimes reconnecting with several different stars, like lively little sprites darting about.
Through this river of stars, he saw indistinct glimpses of the Material Plane, the Ethereal Plane, the Inner Planes, as well as demiplanes and extradimensional spaces hidden within the gaps between planes...
The Micro-Weave swept onward like a plague of locusts, spreading into the endless darkness and "lighting up" one region of space after another.
'Incredible!'
Anser had never imagined that the unseen layers of reality could be so breathtaking.
