System Awakened: I Became the Mafia Kings' Obsession
Chapter 123:I could be your direct ancestor
Chapter 123: 123:I could be your direct ancestor
Nova stared between Cassian and Alan, a rare flick of disbelief crossing her face. "You... can see her?"
Cassian and Alan both nodded slowly, their eyes locked on the stunning, mismatched-eyed woman seated beside her.
Nova and Anah exchanged a quick, bewildered glance. Anah’s eyes flickered down to the glowing blue cubes held in the men’s hands, her brows knitting into a tight crease as she processed the anomaly. Nova remained completely speechless, silently demanding an explanation from her.
Before Anah could speak, a translucent blue interface materialized in the air directly in front of Nova’s face. Nova glanced sharply at Cassian and Alan to see if they could see the floating screen as well, but their eyes remained fixed entirely on Anah not with admiration but with shock.
"It seems they can only see Anah, not the system interface," Nova realized, focusing her gaze on the glowing text.
[System Guardian Upgrade Successful: The guardian may now manipulate her visibility to mortal eyes at her sole discretion.]
Reading the notification, Nova released a slow, silent breath. Anah silently scanned the text as well before the blue screen shattered into fine light and vanished into thin air.
An unbearable, suffocating silence descended over the dining room. Air thickened with unuttered questions as everyone traded wary glances.
Anah attempted to force a polite smile, but her facial muscles refused to cooperate. Giving up, she casually waved a hand in the air, her voice entirely devoid of emotion. "Hello. If I told you I am Nova’s system guardian, would you believe me?"
Cassian and Alan immediately turned their gazes to Nova, seeking confirmation from the only authority that mattered.
Nova exhaled a heavy sigh. "She’s telling the truth. She is my system guardian... and she is with me twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week."
All color instantly drained from Alan’s face. His eyes widened in horror. "Twenty-four... seven?"
Nova nodded solemnly.
Alan’s mind raced as the horrifying realization hit him. "Snow... if she is with you every single second... then when we... when we were..." He swallowed hard, his voice squeaking as panic took over. "Did she see everything?!"
Understanding his words instantly, Nova snapped her head toward Anah, her blue eyes narrowing. Cassian’s gaze hardened into a lethal glare, his entire body stiffening.
Anah met their three horrified stares with a nonchalant smirk. "What? I’m the victim here too," she stated with a deadpan face. "It’s not as if I wanted to watch. I have no choice; I’m bond to her."
Alan’s face flushed an incandescent, burning red, the embarrassment so intense he looked ready to combust. Beside him, Cassian gritted his teeth, the jaw muscles flexing violently as he barely suppressed the urge to annihilate the intruder sitting at his table.
Nova opened her mouth slightly, rendered utterly speechless by Anah’s shamelessness.
Anah looked at the three of them and let out an indifferent sigh. "It’s really not a big deal. Don’t judge me based on this young physical form. In terms of age, I could be your direct ancestor. Watching you two be intimate holds zero novelty for me." Shrugging her shoulders, she picked up her fork and went right back to eating.
Nova rubbed her temples, glancing between Alan—who looked as red as a ripe tomato—and Cassian, whose radiating murderous intent threatened to scatter everything.
"Um..." Nova cleared her throat awkwardly. "My bad for not considering this sooner."
"It’s not your fault, wifey," Cassian growled, his eyes fixed on Anah. "The fault lies entirely with this pervert."
Anah didn’t even pause her chewing. "I didn’t choose to be a voyeur. Besides, be very careful with how you address me. Speaking to me is legally equivalent to speaking to Nova."
Cassian was rendered completely speechlessly furious.
Nova sighed, spooning a fresh portion of food into her bowl to defuse the volatile atmosphere. "Let’s just eat. Ignore her."
Reluctantly, the heavy tension slowly ebbed into a quiet, albeit awkward, breakfast.
"Snow," Alan spoke up after finishing his meal, his face still slightly warm. "I’m heading to school today. Your exams are starting soon—do you want me to arrange for someone to write them for you?"
Nova shook her head cleanly. "I will resume classes tomorrow. I’ll take the exams myself."
Alan nodded affectionately. He stepped around the table, leaned down to press a soft, lingering kiss onto her lips, and offered a shy smile before taking his leave. Moments later, Cassian stood up, cupped Nova’s cheek, and kissed her deeply, casting one final warning glare at Anah before leaving for his corporate headquarters.
Once the front doors clicked shut, leaving only the two women at the grand table, Nova reached out, snatched a large platter of roasted chicken, and set it before her. She casually tore off a thick wing and tossed it onto Anah’s plate before indulging in a massive piece of seasoned meat herself, closing her eyes as she savored the rich flavor.
Anah stared down at the lonely chicken wing sitting on her pristine plate, her brow twitching in utter disbelief as she hold it up with two fingers. "What is this?"
"A chicken wing," Nova replied simply, tearing off another succulent piece of meat.
"Did I beg for a chicken wing?" Anah asked, her mismatched crimson and blue eyes staring dead at Nova.
Nova opened her eyes, looking between Anah and the wing. "You didn’t ask. I gave it to you out of the goodness of my heart," she said. She leaned forward, casually snatching the wing off Anah’s hand. "And why are you holding it like it’s poison? If you don’t want it, don’t eat it."
Without a shred of hesitation, Nova picked up the entire chicken platter and walked off toward the living room couch to watch a movie.
Anah stared at her now empty plate, her hand frozen in mid-air. "Nova... you really... tsk." She hissed in annoyance, shaking her head. Defeated, she reached across the table and began sweeping the remaining breakfast dishes into her own space.
.....
In a quiet, secluded apartment elsewhere in the city...
A breathtakingly beautiful woman stood before a full-length mirror. She was dressed in a dark, structured blouse paired with a short, pleated black skirt. Her long, jet-black hair fell over her shoulders, but it was her eyes that held an uncanny, haunting weight—a pair of striking, luminescent silver irises that mirrored the pale light of the room.
She raised a slender hand, her fingertips gently tracing her reflection against the glass.
"To think I would fall so low... reducing myself to a human puppet just for a fleeting chance to return home. It’s utterly pathetic," she whispered. Her silver eyes glistened with unshed tears, but her expression remained rigidly frozen, not allowing a single drop to spill.
She closed her eyes, breathing in the cold air of the apartment. "I am gambling my very existence on this absurd task he assigned me. Whether I return alive or bleed out in the dirt depends entirely on her."
Her hands curled into tight, white-knuckled fists at her sides.
"I know I stand no chance of defeating her in a true clash," she murmured, a desperate edge hardening her voice. "I only pray... that she doesn’t cross my path until I have completed everything I set out to do."
Relaxing her fists, she pulled her gaze away from the glass, turned on her heel, and stepped out into the shadowy hallway, leaving the empty apartment behind.
