Chapter 122:Nova... can your husbands see me?
Chapter 122: 122:Nova... can your husbands see me?
The morning light filtered into the room as Nova opened her eyes, only to find the massive bed empty beside her. Slipping out from under the heavy duvet, her bare feet met the cold floor as she made her way into the lavish en-suite bathroom. She picked up her toothbrush and began her morning routine.
Just as the minty paste frothed against her teeth, the air in the room rippled. A translucent blue screen materialized in the mirror’s reflection, and Anah seamlessly appeared behind her.
[Congratulations on completing the mission successfully! Reward unlocked. New mission unlocked.]
Nova didn’t flinch. She simply continued brushing her teeth. "Mhm. What’s the reward?" she asked calmly, her voice muffled.
"Your reward this time is a Protective Box," Anah replied.
With a wave of Anah’s ethereal hand, a small, intricate blue cube materialized into her palm. It floated delicately in the air, rotating on an unseen axis, radiating an irresistible aura that made the air hum with latent power.
Nova paused, quickly rinsed her mouth, and turned to face Anah, her sharp gaze locking onto the glowing cube.
"This protective device is practically useless for you, given your capabilities. However, you can give it to your husbands. It will be incredibly valuable to them," Anah explained. With a sudden chime, the singular cube fractured and multiplied, dividing into three identical blue boxes that danced gracefully above her palm.
Nova chuckled, her eyes fixed on the floating artifacts. "For protection?"
Anah nodded, sending the boxes gliding gently through the air until they hovered directly in front of Nova. "Indeed. If they encounter any unexpected, lethal danger, it will activate automatically. However, its absolute defense only lasts for a few hours, and it can only be triggered once."
"That’s more than enough," Nova murmured, reaching out to pluck them from the air. "Finally, something worthy of the title of ’useful.’" With a dismissive flick of her wrist, she sent the three cubes floating over to the marble dressing table, where they settled with a soft clink.
"What’s the next mission?" she asked, shedding her nightclothes and slipping into the steaming water of the grand bathtub.
"Next Mission: Code 012 — Establish the world’s most powerful private organization. Subjugate all global mafia syndicates under your command."
Nova leaned back against the porcelain, a dark, amused smile touching her lips. "Ah... now this is getting interesting," she murmured. The smile faded just as quickly, replaced by icy indifference. "But I don’t want to rule the damn underworld. Dismiss the mission."
The air in the bathroom instantly thickened, the temperature dropping several degrees. Anah floated closer, her voice losing its usual detached cadence. "Do I need to remind you that you have no choice but to complete the missions, Nova?"
"I somehow get the feeling that this grand private organization you want me to build—and all the powerful figures you want subjugated—are entirely for your own benefit," Nova countered, her tone flat and dangerous.
Anah drifted over the bathtub, standing in mid-air directly above the water, staring down at Nova. "It is for both of us," she replied.
"Do you really think I trust you?" Nova smirked, turning her gaze away with complete dismissal.
"I know you don’t," Anah replied quietly.
Suddenly, the bathroom was swallowed by a blinding, ethereal blue light. The sheer force of the energy crackled through the air, vibrating against the marble walls. Within the epicenter of the glow, Anah’s translucent, foggy form began to solidify, shifting rapidly as she forced herself into the physical realm.
Her vague garments dissolved and rewove themselves into a stunning, snow-white tube top and a sleek mini skirt. The attire clung to a newly formed, breathtaking physique, exposing flawless, porcelain skin and a perfectly flat, toned abdomen adorned with a delicate, dropping silver navel ring that caught the harsh light.
As the blinding aura slowly receded, the light shifted upward, illuminating a cascade of perfectly smooth, endlessly long dark hair. Finally, her face was revealed.
Nova’s breath caught for a fraction of a second. It was her own face.
Anah possessed the exact same facial structure as Nova, yet she looked undeniably more mature, her features sharpened with a strong elegance. Her perfect hourglass figure exuded a terrifying, commanding presence that could bring emperors to their knees without her ever lifting a finger.
But it was her eyes that truly paralyzed the air in the room. When Anah slowly opened them, her left eye was a piercing, familiar blue—an exact, flawless replica of Nova’s own. Her right eye, however, was a nightmare. It was a deep, crimson red, swirling with a terrifying intensity that looked as though an ocean of endless blood had been condensed into a single iris.
The tension was suffocating. Nova’s face remained a mask of absolute calm, devoid of any visible emotion, but her eyes were fixed unblinkingly on Anah. She had even stopped the rhythmic motion of washing her arms, entirely captivated by the lethal reflection standing before her.
Anah’s body pulsed once more, and the ambient light surrounding her finally died down, leaving them in the quiet steam of the bathroom.
"I am serious when I say it is for both of us," Anah reiterated, her voice now carrying a rich, physical resonance.
Nova finally blinked, breaking the heavy spell, and looked down at the bathwater. "I’m more interested in that crimson eye of yours," she commented dryly.
Anah looked away, defensively folding her arms across her chest. "There is nothing special about it."
"Mhm." Nova nodded, leaning her head back. "As for the mission... I won’t include my husbands."
"They are your family, so there is no need to snatch their power. They have already given it to you anyway," Anah replied. Without asking permission, her bare feet slipped into the water, and she relaxed her newly materialized body into the spacious bathtub beside Nova. "I am incredibly hungry," she murmured, sighing as the hot water soothed her skin.
Nova stared at her, a smirk breaking through her cold facade. "Foggy face... of all the appearances in the entire world, why did you have to go after my face? This is blatant theft."
Anah shot her a look of utter disbelief. "This is what I originally look like. I kept my face hidden from you merely because I knew you would ask this exact, ridiculous question," she retorted, clearly annoyed.
Nova laughed, the dark tension finally shattering. "I’m just teasing you."
"And stop calling me ’foggy face.’ You have seen my actual face now," Anah demanded.
"I can’t promise you that," Nova chuckled. Anah could only roll her mismatched eyes and sink deeper into the water.
A short while later, both women were dressed. Nova had opened her wardrobe, tossing a chic mini gown to Anah before dressing herself. She packed the three blue cubes into her palm and headed downstairs, with Anah calmly following a step behind.
"Wifey!" Cassian intercepted Nova at the bottom of the stairs, pulling her into a warm hug and pressing a tender kiss to her lips. "How was your sleep?"
"Satisfying," Nova replied, leaning into his embrace. She watched from the corner of her eye as Anah ignored them completely, walking straight past the couple and heading directly for the lavish breakfast spread on the dining table. "Where is Alan?" Nova asked.
"I’m right here, Snow!" Alan called out, entering the living room from the front doors. A massive, boyish grin was plastered across his face. "I just went out to deliver a pin to my mate. I’m back now."
Nova smiled warmly and nodded. "Let’s go eat, then."
She led the way to the dining room and took a seat beside Anah, who was already eating voraciously, paying absolutely no mind to her surroundings.
"Right, I have something for you both," Nova said. As Cassian and Alan took their seats opposite her, she placed the glowing blue cubes onto the glass table, sliding one toward Cassian and one toward Alan.
Alan stared at the object with deep curiosity, leaning in to examine the puzzle-like cube. "Snow, what is this...?" he asked, not lifting his head.
Cassian mirrored his curiosity, his sharp eyes flicking from the device to Nova’s face.
"It is a highly advanced protection device. Just carry it with you at all times, it will protect you from any unexpected danger," Nova explained, picking up the final cube. "This last one is for Raymond, for when he returns."
Cassian and Alan nodded, trusting her implicitly. They both reached out to touch their respective boxes.
The moment their fingers grazed the smooth surfaces, the cubes emitted a soft, melodic beep and glowed with a brilliant blue light. For a brief second, both Cassian’s and Alan’s eyes flashed with the exact same blue hue.
[Protection Binding with target successful.]
Cassian and Alan opened their mouths, ready to ask a barrage of questions about the strange magic they had just felt. But as they looked up, their words died in their throats. Their gazes drifted past Nova and locked entirely onto the seat next to her.
Anah, who had a fork halfway to her mouth, suddenly froze. She could feel the heavy, undeniable weight of two pairs of eyes burning directly into her. Her brows knitted tightly together, and she slowly raised her head, meeting the bewildered stares of the two men.
The air in the dining room instantly vanished, replaced by a tense, suffocating silence.
Anah slowly turned her head toward Nova, her crimson and blue eyes wide with genuine shock. "Nova... can your husbands see me?"
