Surviving the Infinite Survival Game by Exploiting Glitches
Chapter 127 Whack-a-Mole
The two stopped wandering around and instead found nearby amusement rides to complete their daily tasks.
"There’s a whack-a-mole game over there. Wanna go check it out? It should be pretty simple, and easy to finish." Song Xizheng pointed to the whack-a-mole game next to them.
Lin Yun thought about it again and agreed with him. "Let’s go and take a look."
There weren’t many people playing whack-a-mole. There were three areas, and a staff member wearing a green vest was guiding the tourists who had been attracted there.
"Would you like to try playing whack-a-mole?" The guy in the green vest smiled at the newcomers, Lin Yun and Song Xizheng.
The two looked at each other and nodded.
The person in the green vest quickly grabbed two small green tags from the table next to them. "Just hang these tags on your wrists and then go queue up. By the way, do you need to check your bags? They might get in the way."
Lin Yun shook her head, took the small sign, and hung it on her wrist.
Seeing this, the green vest staff member didn’t seem to care.
The small sign was lightweight, made of plastic, and looked unremarkable, with a whack-a-mole pattern printed on it.
Soon, the tourists in front had finished playing and left, and it was Lin Yun and Song Xizheng’s turn to enter the whack-a-mole area separately.
"Now, let me explain the game rules. The game is only complete when you reach the specified score."
"Whack-a-Mole, please pay attention to whether the moles appear. Once a mole appears, do not hesitate to smash it hard with the sledgehammer in your hand!"
"See the timer in front of you? It lasts for 3 minutes. There’s also a counter below that will record your scores."
Another person in a green vest was explaining the rules of the game.
After he finished speaking, he handed the large hammers in his hands to the three people in the arena.
The two were immediately taken aback by the weight of the hammer. Why was this hammer so strange? The weight was wrong. Shouldn’t this be a regular air hammer?
Lin Yun lowered her eyes again, trying to check the hammer’s detailed information, but after a few seconds, the detailed information still did not appear.
That’s strange.
Lin Yun’s fingers tightened slightly around the hammer. Although she had already experienced many strange things in the amusement park, the inability to inspect an item’s information still made her cautious. Usually, the personal panel could provide at least some basic details, but this time there was nothing at all.
She looked at the hammer again. Its shape was ordinary enough, almost exactly what one would expect to see in a whack-a-mole game, yet the weight was clearly abnormal. It was heavy enough that she had to hold it firmly with both hands for a moment before adjusting her grip.
The green vest staff members, however, behaved as though everything was perfectly normal. No one seemed surprised by the hammers or the dark openings. Their expressions were relaxed, and they simply waited for the players to begin.
That made Lin Yun even more alert.
She did not know what was hidden inside those openings. The game was called whack-a-mole, so naturally she had expected small mechanical moles to pop out. But the amusement park had already shown them that its attractions could not be judged by their names alone.
She glanced toward Song Xizheng again. He was also watching the holes instead of relaxing. Clearly, he had reached the same conclusion.
Neither of them knew what would appear.
For the moment, all they could do was remain prepared and react as quickly as possible once the game started.
She then turned her gaze to the several dark openings surrounding her, and she was now a little worried that something might emerge from them.
Song Xizheng, who was standing to the side, also sensed something was wrong. He and Lin Yun exchanged a subtle glance, both seeing the seriousness in each other’s eyes.
"Alright, let the game begin!"
Seeing that they were all ready, the green vest announced the start.
A strange piece of music started playing as the game began.
Both of them were startled. The music sounded really strange.
Neither of them knew whether the music was merely part of the attraction or another hidden warning. The strange melody made the atmosphere feel even more unsettling, and neither dared to relax while the timer continued running.
However, they quickly turned their attention to the surrounding openings.
Suddenly, a head popped out from Lin Yun’s left side. She was about to smash it with the hammer in her hand, but when she saw what it was, she was startled.
Because it wasn’t a groundhog at all, but a child’s head.
She quickly pulled the hammer back, and then saw the child giggle twice at her before disappearing back into the hole.
There were six holes in the surrounding area, and she needed to concentrate very hard.
Soon, a second and a third "groundhog" appeared.
The second one was also a child, but not the same one as before. Lin Yun ignored her and smashed the hammer onto the third mole that appeared.
The gopher, in a very human-like manner, fainted and fell back into its burrow.
She glanced quickly at the numbers on the counter in front of her, and after confirming that the numbers were displayed, she looked away.
Wait a minute! How could the number above be negative?!
At that moment, a tourist nearby had already smashed two children on the head with a hammer.
The tourist next to them smashed the child down with a hammer with great force, and the child’s brains instantly splattered onto the other person.
Lin Yun was stunned again. Wasn’t this supposed to be whack-a-mole?
A strange thought popped into her head, and she suddenly looked at the counter in front of the tourists, which clearly displayed the number 20!
Song Xizheng also noticed that the rules of the game that the staff mentioned were completely wrong!
Or perhaps... in the eyes of the staff, the groundhog wasn’t a groundhog; the child was the "groundhog."
But now was not the time to think about these things. They needed to get through this game.
Lin Yun closed her eyes again. After seeing what the tourists next to her were doing, she was unsure of what to do.
"Hey, tourist, almost a minute has passed. Keep going!" the green vest reminded her with a smile.
Having no other choice, the two raised their hammers and smashed them down on the groundhog children.
When Lin Yun hit the first gopher child, she realized that it was the first child that had appeared.
"Sister, why did you hit me? I’m not a gopher!"
The child then fell back into the hole.
Every time a gopher child was hit, they said something to Lin Yun.
"That annoying adult actually smashed us."
"You hit me so hard!"
"Could you be a little gentler? A broken head is a tough nut to crack."
"Oh dear, my brain’s broken! I need my owner to fix it again!"
"You have no respect for cute gophers at all. I hate you."
Despite Lin Yun’s efforts to be as gentle as possible, the hammer still easily smashed the groundhog child’s head.
After three minutes, Lin Yun frowned and put down the hammer.
Her pants were already splattered with a lot of red and white stuff.
Song Xizheng, who was standing to the side, also looked unwell, looking down at his legs.
"Oh dear, what a pity. We need 1000 points to successfully pass the whack-a-mole game, and your scores are a bit low."
The young man in the green vest walked over and pressed a button on the sign in front of them.
The numbers above were reset to zero, and the spot where they were standing was also cleaned up.
It happened so fast that Lin Yun didn’t even have time to react. The brain matter and blood that had just appeared on the ground were gone, and even her pants were clean.
Song Xizheng, who had been looking down, blinked in disbelief and then rubbed his eyes hard.
His pants...
Song Xizheng quickly looked up at Lin Yun.
Lin Yun shook her head at him again, indicating that he should talk to her after it was over.
Song Xizheng returned his attention to the game.
The tourist next to her had successfully completed the whack-a-mole game and scored a whopping 1200 points.
"Congratulations on successfully completing our whack-a-mole game! Please come out and collect your Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) account."
"Okay, okay, hahaha, this whack-a-mole game is so much fun! Seeing the mole’s head explode after I’ve done it gives me a huge sense of accomplishment."
The tourist looked at the score on the counter in front of him and smiled with satisfaction.
