Chapter 57: 57 - You’re Panicking

Faced with Seraphine’s fury, King laughed heartily. His furrowed brows shifted from his face to hers.

The world really was full of strange things. When you waited for something, it would never show up, but when you stopped caring, you could actually get what you once wished for.

"What’s so funny? You keep saying you want to teach me, but what have you done from the beginning until now? Sure, I’m at fault, but you’re not exactly any better."

King’s attitude from beginning to end had always made Seraphine feel extremely annoyed. A lecherous smile like this should have belonged to some destined villain meant to be the protagonist’s enemy.

"Finally, I’ve met someone with a normal reaction."

King didn’t care what she wanted to say. Right now, he just wanted to laugh because his little wish had been fulfilled, getting to see a character from a novel go crazy after learning the truth.

"What nonsense are you talking about again? Answer me!"

Seeing that he was ignoring her, Seraphine got so angry that she stomped her foot and sank into the ground. She looked fierce, but she didn’t dare grab his virtual neck even though she really wanted to.

"That’s the truth. It’s as simple as that. Whether you believe it or not won’t change it."

The more frantic she became, the more pleased he was. The interest in his eyes, as if he was looking at something amusing, was completely undisguised.

"You..."

"What do you want to say? Now that you know you’re a character in a novel. Why don’t you work harder to satisfy readers like me?"

Once again, before Seraphine could say anything, King cut her off. As he spoke, he even licked his lips, looking like he was about to do something really perverted.

From the way he had looked this whole time, all Seraphine could see on King’s face was either lecherousness or perversion.

Even though King was genuinely handsome, her impression of him was so terrible that it couldn’t possibly get any worse, so she couldn’t be expected to judge him fairly.

"Hmph, dream on. You’d better explain everything clearly to me."

Seraphine felt extremely annoyed by King’s words, but after thinking about it again, she felt like there had already been more than enough things today that went against common sense. One more absurd thing wasn’t too hard to accept...

No, it was really hard to accept. Compared to the fact that swordsmen were stronger than mages, the fact that she and even the whole world didn’t truly ’exist’ was even more outrageous.

"I’m telling the truth. You being stubborn won’t change the fact that you’re the female lead of this world and I’m a reader. The world I live in is one level higher than yours, so I’m greater than you without even having to do anything."

Seeing that Seraphine was no longer throwing a fit, King spoke. He wanted to see whether the anger she was holding back would erupt again.

"Hmph, so you’re arrogant because of that ridiculous reason? A reader? To put it bluntly, you’re just an ordinary nobody from some world I don’t know. Why don’t you keep being trash like you normally are?"

Since King put it that way, Seraphine decided to go along with it even though she didn’t believe him.

She didn’t really understand whether the ’reader’ King mentioned was the same as what she imagined, but that wasn’t the point. In her head, she quickly came up with the ’appropriate’ words to insult King.

The smile on King’s face instantly vanished. The face that had looked like he was watching a show now looked ugly, as if the situation had reversed and the one being entertained was him instead of her.

What Seraphine said was completely wrong in reality, but being falsely accused was still annoying. Suddenly getting insulted by someone he looked down on. Who would be happy about that?

"How dare you?!"

Frowning, King immediately grabbed Seraphine by the neck and lifted her off the ground. His eyes were so vicious that it looked like he wanted to eat her alive, but it wasn’t real killing intent either.

"You’re panicking. You’re panicking..."

Her neck was squeezed so tightly that she couldn’t get a sound out, but Seraphine still smiled in an extremely ugly way. Although she didn’t look very happy, the joy in her eyes was real.

Her eyes weren’t blind yet, so she could clearly see that King was extremely annoyed. You could say this was the best thing she had done so far.

"I’m not!"

"Don’t deny it. You panicking means I was right. Hehe..."

No matter what the truth was, Seraphine would still hold her ground. The more stubborn she was, the more annoyed he would get. And being unable to kill her made King even more annoyed.

Taking a deep breath, King let her go. Continuing to lose his temper would only make her more pleased. Since he couldn’t kill her, he shouldn’t let himself become a laughingstock in front of her.

"Hmph, I’ve always had the right to choose whatever I want. But you have absolutely no such right in front of me."

He pressed a finger against the center of her chest several times. Then he gave her a hard push, nearly making her fall backward.

"Tsk, isn’t it just because I’ve only been training for a short time? Give me some more time, and even if I can’t become stronger than you, I should at least be your equal."

Faced with King’s show of dominance, Seraphine clicked her tongue but didn’t deny it. She might be pathetic right now, but she still believed in her talent and hard work.

Being a mage wasn’t something children could become, so her journey had only begun a little over a year ago.

With this kind of talent and an even stronger desire to work hard than before, how could she possibly keep losing to someone forever?

"Hmph, I’m always the strongest. At the same rank, I’m invincible. One rank above me, I can still cut them down."

Seeing that Seraphine was unwilling to accept it, King curled his lips in disdain. No matter how incredible someone’s talent was, it still couldn’t compare to the master of the system.

"We’ll worry about that in the future. What you just said is extremely hard to believe. I don’t believe it..."

"If you want to convince me, you should say something to prove it."

Even now, Seraphine still didn’t believe in the existence of another world or the fact that she was a character in a novel.

Just because someone said a few words, rejecting everything you had always taken for granted would be too ridiculous...

Of course, people with strange ways of thinking like Elias didn’t count. People who were ’old’ and had gone through many absurd things in life, like Iris, Adrian, or Kenji, didn’t count either.

"Fine. Let’s talk about the system first..."
