Chapter 56: 56 - Why Do I Have to Hide?

Seraphine’s favorability toward King had not even reached ’positive’ before his words dragged it down even further into the ’negative’.

Her face darkened, her teeth clenched tightly as if she really wanted to bite that nonsense-spouting mouth of his to pieces.

"Hmph, cry my ass! Just looking at that happy face of yours makes it impossible for me to cry, you damn pervert."

She did not hesitate for another second and immediately stood up the moment King stopped restraining her. As soon as she stood up, the first thing she did was dust off her clothes with her hands.

The more she dusted them, the worse her expression became. An outfit this good was a limited edition custom-made piece. Now it was covered in blood, with dirt mixed into it like this. Who knew whether it could still be repaired or if she would have to switch to another one.

After touching the blood for only a few seconds, Seraphine’s brows furrowed more and more.

This blood definitely was not King’s because he was not injured. And besides, it was mixed with the blood of a fantastic beast.

"Huh? Blood from a fantastic beast?"

"You’re only realizing it now? What kind of genius mage has eyes as useless as a blind person’s? That severely nearsighted guy can see more clearly than you."

Seeing her surprised expression, King immediately mocked her. Maybe because she had acted so arrogantly toward him before, but now whenever he made her angry, he felt pretty satisfied.

Seraphine was visibly annoyed, but when she followed the direction King was pointing with his finger, her expression became a little better.

Seraphine thought little of ordinary nearsighted men, but Elias was an exception. She had watched him for long enough to know that he knew far more than she did about potions and potion-making. It was only natural. That was the one thing he could study.

"Hmph, Elias spends all his free time reading books about this stuff, so why are you comparing him to me? Besides, the proportion of fantastic beast blood is too low, so it is hard to recognize with the naked eye."

Relying on the fact that she had some knowledge, Seraphine shamelessly boasted without any embarrassment.

King was just a tourist who did not understand a thing about the local specialties, so he did not know how to argue with her either.

Actually, the ratio did not really matter that much. If she observed carefully and often, she would notice that fantastic beast blood had characteristics completely different from human blood. She was just too lazy to learn anything related to potions, so she did not know.

"Uh... How dare you change the subject? Tell me clearly. What is your purpose in approaching me?"

In the middle of their conversation, Seraphine suddenly got angry again. Her unreasonable anger did not make King happy. He only frowned in utter confusion.

Wasn’t she the one who changed the subject? Were women all this unreasonable? She was clearly at fault, yet she could still blame me.

As soon as this thought appeared in King’s mind, he immediately rejected it. He could not look at the matter from this perspective.

To Seraphine right now, King was not a mortal enemy, but he was still a bastard.

Would anyone be stupid enough to treat someone they absolutely hated nicely? If they had the kindness of a saint, they would never hate anyone, so this could not possibly happen.

"How dare you blame me?"

King immediately grabbed Seraphine by the neck and pressed his face close to hers. At such a close distance, the smell of blood stuck to his face rushed straight into her nose, making her frown.

His movement was extremely rough. Although it did not cause death or injury, it really hurt. He did not kill her and could even help her, but that did not mean she could take advantage of it and push her luck.

"My... fault. Happy now?"

It was difficult for Seraphine to speak. Admitting a mistake was not something pleasant for an extremely arrogant young person. Besides that, her neck was being squeezed too tightly, making it hard to talk.

"Hmph, at least you know what’s good for you."

King’s eyes narrowed, his face raised. This was not even looking down on her anymore. At most, he was only using one-third of his eyes to look at her.

Being so blatantly looked down on made Seraphine furious. But after going back and forth with him all this time, she understood it now. King was extremely petty. As long as she annoyed him, he would immediately retaliate.

"Who were you talking to just now? Not just once, but many times, so don’t even think about hiding it from me."

Now, Seraphine felt that she had to try even harder. Her strength absolutely had to be on par with King’s so he would not bully her anymore. If possible, she wanted to become stronger than him so she would have a chance to bully him.

"Hide? Why should I hide? Do you think a reader like me would do something cowardly like hiding the system from a little novel character like you? This is..."

With a disdainful expression, King pointed straight at the spot where the system was floating in front of him. Just as he was about to proudly introduce it, Seraphine interrupted him.

"Wait!"

She shouted, her angry face flushed red like a volcano about to erupt. The words King considered obvious sounded extremely unpleasant to her ears.

"You..."

Just now, he had interrupted her, but now the situation had completely reversed. Seraphine’s mouth was working at full speed. She spoke so fast as if the Grim Reaper were chasing after her, about to take her life at any moment.

"Shut up! You can look down on me, but don’t go too far, okay? A novel character? You’re the damn novel character!

I am a noble young lady, a genius that millions of people have to admire, yet you dare say I’m not a person? I’m giving you one chance to take back your words. Otherwise, I’ll fight you to the death!"

This time, she really could not hold it in anymore. Hearing King’s words, she felt like he was denying everything about her. Even the things she had always been proud of.

King’s brows furrowed slightly. His mouth was still open as if he wanted to speak, yet he could not say anything after hearing her barrage of rapid-fire questions.

Her reaction was completely different from the other he had encountered before.

Wasn’t this the ’normal’ reaction he had always been waiting for when revealing the ’shocking truth’?

"Hahahaha..."
