Chapter 1496: Chapter 1486: Comfort

But the leading big man forced a smile and said: "You’re at death’s door and still stubborn like a cooked duck. You still think you can leave here alive today; hahaha, that’s a joke."

The big man’s laugh was strained, even he himself felt a lack of confidence. But he didn’t know why; he had never felt this way before. It was as if he was being subdued by an invisible aura, feeling terribly uncomfortable.

"Haha, ’at death’s door,’ that’s a nice phrase but you used it on the wrong person. It’s not me who is at death’s door—it’s you." Just as Jiang Cheng finished speaking, he charged forward, unwilling to waste too much time on this group of small-time thugs.

Moreover, he was already in a foul mood today, feeling as though he had been led by the nose all day, lacking even a shred of personal freedom. He needed to take the initiative and strike back, no longer be passive. It was surely the saddest day of his life, yes, ’sad’ was the perfect word to describe it now.

This reminded him of Zhao Benshan and Song Dandan’s skit, where Song Dandan talked about how the East District’s soccer team was pathetic. At the thought, an unnatural smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. Had he become the East District soccer team today? As Jiang Cheng charged forward, his body leapt into the air, executing a sweeping kick, rotating 360 degrees mid-air, not only graceful in posture but also effectively striking.

Two men were swept hard by this kick, lying directly on the ground, unable to get up. Eyes blinking, their heads couldn’t even turn.

Just as Jiang Cheng landed, the group charged at him; one flew up to deliver a heavy blow aimed at Jiang Cheng’s head. It was this burly man’s ace move, always effective, he couldn’t even remember how many had fallen to this strike.

Jiang Cheng crouched instantly and then swept his leg close to the ground. Due to the man’s excessive force, upon landing he was caught by Jiang Cheng’s sweeping leg, causing his massive body to slam heavily onto the ground with a loud crash.

As Jiang Cheng stood, a heavy punch came from the side. He turned his face sharply, the punch grazing by, a burst of cold air making his face chill. Following this, Jiang Cheng wrapped his left hand around the man’s arm and delivered a firm punch with his right hand, precisely striking the man’s head.

A gush of blood arched from the man’s mouth; Jiang Cheng let go with his left hand, and the man fell directly to the ground, unable to rise.

In the blink of an eye, Jiang Cheng had knocked four out of the ten down without much exertion.

And the remaining six burly men suddenly realized their companions were down; they were either hurt or injured—none were okay. This made the six a bit fearful, but retreating wasn’t an option, nor was it the time, so they had to fight till the end.

The area surrounding Jiang Cheng became smaller and fewer attackers remained, yet Jiang Cheng stood tall, full of bravado, showing no sign of weariness.

Just then, suddenly a kick flew toward him—it was a sturdy man on the opposite side who tried a front kick. Jiang Cheng swiftly shifted his steps, evading the assault, then wrapped around the man’s calf for a forceful backward leap.

Then there was a scream, a burly man fell over dramatically. This was his first time being hit by a strike, not by his own training, but by someone else’s. This person was not a coach, not a master, nor a comrade, but an enemy. The burly man yelled in pain.

At this point, there were five remaining out of ten burly men, five lying on the ground. Suddenly, a long whistle blew from afar. Jiang Cheng looked out there but found nothing. When Jiang Cheng turned back, he saw five burly men frantically retreating while supporting the other five, despite the scene being comical with heads cracked, legs limping, and jaws dropped. A real ragtag army retreat.

Just as Jiang Cheng was about to chase, he suddenly noticed a phone on the ground, and it was still bright. He figured maybe it was a bomb or something, but upon picking up the phone, he discovered a message had been sent.

Jiang Cheng opened the message, it read: "To rescue Mu Yu, drive to Mount Ma." Jiang Cheng tried calling back but the number was invalid, so he had no choice but to rent a Mercedes at the taxi stand, then input Mount Ma into the GPS.

The car sped along the highway, time was of the essence, Jiang Cheng knew he was racing against time, and so the car accelerated rapidly. The radar occasionally warned: "Please pay attention to speed 3.9, you are speeding."

Jiang Cheng ignored these warnings, pressing the pedal to the floor, the car charged forward like a rocket, winds rapidly shifting on both sides, fast as lightning.

However, suddenly a rainstorm hit the sky, the windshield before him blurred, despite the wipers slashing back and forth, visibility was still poor.

Jiang Cheng turned on the hazard lights, slowed down, and exited the highway at the next intersection. The rain poured heavily with no signs of stopping, annoying Jiang Cheng yet leaving him helpless. No matter how powerful a human is, they pale in comparison to Nature.

So Jiang Cheng found a nearby motel and settled in, waiting for the rain to stop before continuing his journey. The heavens were not being favorable; Jiang Cheng wondered if today wasn’t a propitious day for travel and chuckled helplessly.

The sky gradually dimmed, Jiang Cheng kept the lights on, drawing the curtains tightly, while the rain outside showed no signs of letting up, continuing to pour relentlessly.

After sipping some tea, Jiang Cheng looked at his phone; it was already eight o’clock. He planned to sleep early so he could be well-rested for rescuing Mu Yu the next day.

Approaching the bed, he moved all the sheets to the window, arranging them; he decided to sleep there. Even if someone shot from outside the window, they could only aim at the bed. This spot, fortified by the wall, was a safe zone. Everything arranged, he took off his clothes and headed into the bathroom.

The bathroom featured a large bathtub, cleaned thoroughly, and Jiang Cheng filled it with water before lying in.

He was genuinely exhausted; the past day had been more tiring than the previous ones. Things kept coming one after the other with no break.

He felt every event was interlinked, like a series of traps set for him, impossible to bypass.

This mission was indeed complex.

Jiang Cheng understood there must be a hidden force manipulating everything behind the scenes. Jiang Cheng needed rest; only well-rested, could he maintain mental acuity.

With a clear mind, he could escape from opponents’ traps or turn the tables on them. But first, he needed to grasp the entire situation comprehensively.

Clearly, Jiang Cheng wasn’t at that level yet, his knowledge about the group was only superficial, so he had to be cautious.

Just as Jiang Cheng lay in the bathtub, enjoying the soothing effect of water on his body, a dark figure appeared on the ground floor, holding something. With a swipe against the glass, the glass fell off, and he gently placed it aside.
