Summoner of Nightmares

Chapter 54: The Armor of Chaos

  • Next Chapter

Rain hammered against the windows of the Nightmare Grand Hotel while Gene sat alone in his workshop.

The storm outside mirrored the storm inside his thoughts.

Ancient evil cults .

A prophecy involving dreams and nightmares.

And now…

Seven magical gems.

Gene leaned back heavily in his chair.

For the first time since arriving in this world, he felt truly behind.

Not weaker.

Not helpless.

But unprepared.

Every battle until now had been somewhat manageable.

Arena fights.

Noble rivalries.

Occasional monster incidents.

Things he could react to.

But this?

This felt bigger.

Ancient.

Carefully planned.

Gene stared down at the blue gemstone resting on the table before him.

The crystal pulsed softly beneath the dim workshop lights.

“If they’re preparing for war…” he murmured, “then I need to stop thinking like a hotel owner.”

His eyes slowly drifted toward the summoning terminal.

“…And start thinking like a summoner.”

⸻

A New Idea

The summoning machine hummed quietly as Gene began writing.

Unlike most summoners in this world, Gene had one terrifying advantage:

Earth fiction.

And Earth had created an absolutely absurd number of overpowered items.

Games.

Movies.

Comics.

Anime.

Fan fiction.

Stories where ordinary people became monsters in armor.

Stories where equipment evolved.

Adapted.

Consumed power and transformed alongside its wielder.

Gene tapped the pen against the desk thoughtfully.

“I need something versatile.”

Not just a summon.

Not another monster.

Something for himself.

Something hidden.

Something nobody would expect from the horror summoner.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

“A living armor…”

The idea formed rapidly afterward.

A chaotic armor capable of adapting endlessly.

An armor system that evolved using the power of the gems.

Technology fused with summoning magic.

Part biological creature.

Part weapon platform.

Part symbiotic parasite.

Gene grinned slowly.

“Oh that would be absolutely horrifying.”

Which meant…

It would be perfect.

⸻

Designing the Chaos Armor

Gene worked for nearly six hours straight.

Papers piled around him.

Blueprints covered the floor.

The system terminal glowed constantly while magical formulas updated themselves.

Finally, he stepped back from the finished design.

Summon Design:

Chaos Slime Armor

Core Traits:

    • Adaptive living armor organism.
    • Can incorporate magical gemstones for evolution.
    • Learns combat patterns over time.
    • Semi-sentient but completely loyal to bonded host.
    • Generates weapons and tools from absorbed materials.
    • Functions like an advanced combat interface.

Primary Form:

A black slime-metal armor hidden inside a small wearable object.

Gene smirked.

“It will be inside a headband.”

Nobody would suspect a stupid headband.

Then he added another layer.

A neural synchronization necklace.

This one made him pause slightly.

Because the system recommendation attached to it was deeply concerning.

WARNING!! WARNING !!!WARNING:

Full synchronization requires direct nervous system interface.

Gene stared at the warning.

“…Huh.”

Then immediately smiled.

“That sounds wildly unsafe.”

Which, historically, had never stopped him before.

⸻

Summoning the Armor

The summoning machine activated.

Golden runes spun around the chamber.

Black mist gathered slowly above the platform.

Gene watched carefully.

Unlike his usual horror summons, this felt different.

Colder.

Sharper.

More primitive yet still mechanical.

The black mist condensed into something small.

A thin black headband floated gently downward.

At first glance, it looked harmless.

Simple even.

But faint silver veins pulsed beneath its surface like living circuitry.

Gene carefully picked it up.

The material shifted slightly against his fingers.

Warm.

Alive.

The system chimed.

SUMMON CREATED:

CHAOS SLIME ARMOR — INITIAL FORM

RANK: RARE EVOLVING TYPE

WARNING:

SYMBIOTIC ADAPTATION POSSIBLE

Gene immediately loved it.

“Excellent.”

The headband twitched slightly.

Then wrapped gently around his wrist like a curious snake.

“…Okay that’s a bit creepy.”

The slime purred softly.

Gene paused.

“…You know what? You may even be  creepier then I am.”

⸻

The Necklace

The second summon took a lot less time.

Silver chains formed slowly within the summoning circle.

At the center rested a dark crystal pendant glowing faintly blue.

Unlike the armor, the necklace felt calm.

Focused.

Gene placed it around his neck carefully.

Immediately, the slime headband reacted.

Black tendrils extended briefly toward the necklace.

Then connected.

A sharp pulse shot through Gene’s skull.

Information exploded across his vision.

Status readings.

Motion tracking.

Biological scans.

Gene staggered backward.

“Oooo.”

Words appeared directly in front of his eyes.

NEURAL LINK ESTABLISHED

Gene blinked rapidly.

“…Holy hell.”

It really did feel like a video game interface.

⸻

The Mad Scientists Approve

Victor nearly cried tears of joy when Gene explained the next part.

“You want us to implant experimental technology into your spine?”

Victor Graves looked emotionally fulfilled.

“This is the best day of my life. Morrigan my dear, pinch me so I know this is not a dream.”

Morrigan Graves looked significantly less enthusiastic.

“Absolutely not.”

Gene pointed toward the armor.

“This needs a better neural connection.”

Morrigan crossed her arms.

“You are not turning yourself into a science project.”

Victor gasped dramatically.

“But imagine all the possibilities!”

Selene pinched the bridge of her nose.

“Why are you encouraging him.”

“Of course I am a man of science after all!”

Lilith bounced excitedly beside the operating table.

“Will papa shoot lasers afterward?”

Gene considered it.

“…Hopefully.”

Morrigan looked one second away from homicide.

⸻

The Weapon Machine

Before the surgery could begin, Gene had one more idea.

Because apparently risking spinal surgery wasn’t enough excitement for one evening.

He returned to the summoning chamber.

“If I’m going to fight personally…”

He grinned.

“…we need loot drops.”

Moira blinked slowly.

“You continue saying words nobody understands.”

Gene ignored her completely and began another design.

This summon would not be alive… not exactly.

More like a magical utility construct.

A machine capable of generating random weapons endlessly.

And because Gene was Gene—

He had I ntentionally added chaos to the design.

⸻

The summoning circle flared brightly.

Metal groaned.

Then with a violent CLANG—

A massive black vending machine appeared.

Red lights glowed across its surface.

Rotating weapon symbols flashed endlessly behind the glass.

A sign lit up overhead:

RANDOMIZED ARMAMENT DISPENSER V-01

Gene stared proudly.

“…Beautiful.”

The machine suddenly spat out a rubber chicken attached to a knife handle.

Gene blinked.

The system chimed.

ITEM GENERATED:

TACTICAL CHICKEN DAGGER

Moira stared.

Selene stared harder.

Lilith immediately grabbed it.

“I LOVE THIS MACHINE.”

A second screen flickered on the vending machine.

AVAILABLE WEAPON SLOTS: 6

NEXT RANDOM GENERATION: 07:59:58

RECYCLE FUNCTION: ACTIVE

HIDDEN FUNCTION:

ERROR

CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE

Gene narrowed his eyes.

“That’s…. Interesting.”

The machine suddenly dispensed a frying pan glowing with electricity.

Victor looked emotional again.

“We are truly living in the future.”

⸻

The Operation

The operating room lights glowed cold blue overhead.

Gene lay on the reinforced surgical table while Victor prepared instruments with terrifying excitement.

Selene stood nearby looking deeply unconvinced.

“We could still not do this.”

Gene pointed at the headband.

“Counterpoint.”

Selene sighed.

“There is never a counterpoint. You just say that before doing dangerous things.”

Lilith climbed onto a stool.

“Can I watch?”

“No!!!”, four people answered simultaneously.

The chaos armor rested beside the operating table quietly quivering.

Morrigan reluctantly adjusted the neural chip.

“If this kills him, I’m leaving you Victor.”

Victor gasped.

“How rude.”

Gene grinned nervously.

“Comforting atmosphere, I’ll be fine everyone.”

The necklace around his throat glowed softly.

Victor held up the chip proudly.

It resembled a tiny black crystal circuit.

“Once implanted, the synchronization should become instantaneous.”

Gene looked at the enormous needle.

“…That needle seems very unnecessary.”

“It absolutely is.”

“Fantastic.”

Selene squeezed Gene’s hand briefly before stepping back.

“Try not to die.”

Gene smiled weakly.

“I’ll try not to.”

Then Victor injected the anesthetic.

The room blurred rapidly.

Lights smeared together.

Voices echoed strangely.

The last thing Gene saw before unconsciousness claimed him—

Was lilith peaking down from a removed ceiling tile.

⸻

Dreams in the Dark

Gene dreamed.

Not normal dreams.

He stood inside endless darkness while distant whispers echoed around him.

Shapes moved beyond sight.

Massive.

Ancient.

Watching.

Then he saw the mountain.

The enormous mountain from Mystic Blood Valley.

Only now it was split open.

And inside—

A giant eye stared back at him.

Not angry.

Hungry.

Gene tried to move.

Couldn’t.

Then the seven gems appeared floating around him.

Blue.

Red.

Gold.

Silver.

Green.

Purple.

Black.

The gems pulsed together.

And far away—

Something roared.

Gene woke violently.

⸻

Two Days Later

Pain greeted him immediately.

Gene groaned.

“…Ow.”

A familiar voice answered nearby.

“Good. You’re alive.”

Gene blinked blearily.

Selene sat beside the bed holding a book.

Her expression looked exhausted but relieved.

“…How long was I out?”

Selene closed the book slowly.

“Two days.”

Gene stared.

“What?”

“The surgery worked.”

She pointed toward the back of his neck.

“The chip integrated successfully.”

Gene sat up slowly.

The moment he did—

Blue interface windows appeared across his vision.

NEURAL LINK ACTIVE

CHAOS ARMOR SYNCHRONIZATION: 97%

HOST STATUS: RECOVERING

Gene blinked rapidly.

“This is… incredibly cool.”

Selene sighed.

“You almost died.”

“Yes but now I have HUD elements.”

She stared at him.

“I do not know what that means.”

Gene grinned.

“It means I totally regret nothing.”

The slime headband squeaked quietly on the bedside table.

The moment Gene reached for it, the armor immediately slithered onto his arm happily.

Selene looked disturbed.

“I still hate that it moves.”

The headband purred.

“That’s fair.”

⸻

A New Guest

Selene carefully helped Gene out of bed.

“You missed a lot.”

Gene stretched carefully.

“Like what?”

Selene hesitated.

“A survivor arrived.”

Gene paused immediately.

“A girl from a destroyed world. Her name is Lyra.”

Gene frowned.

“How is she?”

“Better than when she first arrived.”

Selene smiled faintly.

“Lilith has basically adopted her.”

“Ahh…Of course she has.”

Selene continued.

“She arrived the day after your surgery.”

Gene slowly pulled on a clean coat.

“And she knows what happened to the other worlds?”

Selene’s expression darkened.

“She says it’s worse than we imagined.”

⸻

Lyra

An hour later, Gene finally met the mysterious survivor properly.

The library doors opened quietly.

Inside, several people already sat gathered around the central table.

Cassian.

Aurelia.

Moira.

Lilith.

And one unfamiliar girl.

Lyra looked up nervously the moment Gene entered.

She was smaller than Gene expected.

Around Lilith’s height.

Short brown hair framed a cautious face marked faintly with old scars.

The hotel staff had clearly worked hard to clean her up significantly.

She wore comfortable dark clothes instead of her torn ranger gear now.

Still—

Fear lingered visibly in her eyes.

Lilith immediately waved excitedly.

“Gene’s awake!”

Lyra stood quickly.

“Oh— um…”

She bowed awkwardly.

“T-thank you for letting me stay here.”

Gene smiled gently.

“You’re safe here.”

The words seemed to hit her harder than expected.

Lyra looked down quickly.

“…I forgot what that sounded like.”

Silence filled the room briefly.

Then Lilith shoved a cookie into Lyra’s hands.

“Emergency cookie.”

Lyra blinked.

“…What?”

“Works every time.”

Gene honestly couldn’t argue with the success rate.

Lyra hesitantly took a bite.

Then looked mildly shocked.

“These are incredible.”

Lilith nodded proudly.

“Chocolate helps with trauma.”

Moira looked toward Gene.

“She’s been resting mostly.”

Cassian folded his arms.

“She refused guards outside her room.”

Lyra looked embarrassed.

“…Sorry.”

Gene shook his head.

“You survived a dying world. Nobody’s blaming you for a little paranoia.”

The girl visibly relaxed slightly.

⸻

Gathering in the Library

The storm outside intensified as everyone gathered around the library fireplace.

Books lined the towering walls endlessly.

The seven-gem notes rested on the table nearby beside the prophecy scrolls.

Gene noticed Lyra staring nervously at the horror summons wandering occasionally through the hallways.

Especially the Caretaker.

“He won’t hurt you,” Gene assured gently.

The massive silent figure standing near the doorway gave a slow nod.

Lyra swallowed.

“…I know.”

Her voice became quieter.

“They told me that he saved prince Cassian.”

Jesse Belle sat beside the Caretaker knitting something enormous and fluffy.

“We won’t bite someone less they deserve it hun.”

A pause.

“Well. Usually.”

That did not comfort Lyra very much.

Gene sat carefully in the chair opposite her.

“You said the cult has conquered seventeen worlds.”

Lyra nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

“And yours was next.”

“They already won.”

The room grew silent again.

Lilith quietly moved closer beside Lyra.

The little monster queen rested her head against the girl’s shoulder comfortingly.

Surprisingly—

Lyra didn’t flinch away.

Gene noticed her hands trembling slightly.

Selene did too.

“We don’t need to rush,” Selene said softly.

Lyra shook her head.

“No…”

Her eyes lowered toward the floor.

“You all need to know.”

Thunder boomed outside.

The library lights flickered briefly.

Gene leaned forward slightly.

“What exactly happened to your world?”

Lyra closed her eyes.

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

Then slowly—

Very quietly—

She began to cry.

Lilith immediately hugged her.

“It’s okay.”

Lyra covered her face.

“They killed everyone…”

The room became deathly still.

Even the Caretaker seemed to tense near the doorway.

Gene felt cold settle in his chest.

Not fear.

Rage.

Real rage.

The kind that built slowly and silently.

Lyra wiped her eyes shakily.

“I’ll tell you everything.”

Outside the hotel—

Far beyond the valley—

Lightning illuminated the massive mountain beneath the storm clouds.

And deep below the earth—

An ancient being smiled.
