Steampunk: Sixth Era Epic
Chapter 2270: An Unexpected Visiting Guest
Chapter 2270: Chapter 2270: An Unexpected Visiting Guest
Until he climbed the steps at his doorstep and reached out to pull out the key, Shard was still immersed in the final words and expressions of the doctor.
The moment the door crack opened just slightly, Mia impatiently jumped off Shard’s shoulder and dashed into the house. It wasn’t until Shard entered the house that he noticed the hall was brightly lit and filled with people.
"Shh~"
Lecia abruptly turned her head, placing a finger to her lips, frowning and gesturing Shard to keep silent. She then continued to turn her head, listening intently to the sounds upstairs along with Miss Galina. The maids were not in the hall; they were located at the junction of the hallway and the first-floor living room, also listening closely to the sounds coming from upstairs.
Shard looked at them suspiciously, and as soon as he softly closed the door and changed his shoes, Miss Galina grabbed him, her golden eyes revealing a worried expression. She whispered:
"Why are you only just getting back? Your mentor is here; she’s upstairs."
"What?"
Shard was greatly surprised:
"Miss Feliana is here?"
The Duchess knocked him on the head, an action that made Lecia give her a dissatisfied look. The Princess also spoke to Shard:
"What are you thinking? It’s the Red Moon Witch, Miss Danester."
Shard sighed in relief, knowing she had come for Emilia.
This morning many people in Moon Bay City had seen a person holding the Sword of Light riding a unicorn. While others might not know, Miss Danester surely understood what this represented. Shard simply hadn’t expected that Miss Danester, who was handling affairs away from the city, would be so well-informed:
"Did she come as a projection? Why not wait for me to return before projecting?"
"What projection? She knocked on the door and came in through the entrance!"
The Red-Haired Duchess clutched Shard’s sleeve, looking genuinely anxious:
"At that time, Lecia and I had just arrived by carriage at your doorstep. When getting off the carriage, we stared at her several times.
When Luviya opened the door and addressed her as ’Professor Danester’, I was completely stunned. I’d only seen her from a distance before; last time in the reeds by Green Lake I didn’t get a clear look... Quick, go upstairs. Luviya is currently entertaining her. She arrived forty minutes ago; if you didn’t come back soon, we really wouldn’t know what to do."
Then, without waiting for an explanation, she urged Shard upstairs, and Shard could only head up, indeed not expecting such an important guest at home tonight.
After arriving on the second floor, Shard indeed saw the same thirteen-form female sorcerer with vibrant red hair sitting in his living room. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ
At this moment, she was sitting together with Luviya on the sofa, with teaware displayed on the coffee table in front of them. Their conversation was quite audible, and Miss Danester seemed to be inquiring Luviya about joint cultivation matters.
Moments ago, when Luviya saw Mia dash into the living room and meow several times at Miss Danester without courtesy, she knew Shard had returned. Upon seeing Shard emerge from the doorway, she breathed a sigh of relief and immediately stood up:
"Oh, Shard, you’re finally back. Look who’s here? Professor Danester wants to discuss something with you, so I’ll excuse myself now. The hot water is in the kitchen, the tea leaves are in the usual spot, and this teapot is freshly brewed with plenty left. If you need fruit, I had the maid wash them and place them on the dining table."
With that, she politely nodded to Miss Danester, then awkwardly shuffled past Shard to head downstairs.
The sound of footsteps faded away, and Shard recovered from his surprise, greeting the woman on the sofa:
"Good evening, Miss Danester, I truly didn’t expect you to come this late. Is everything sorted?"
Her hat hung on the coat rack at the entrance. Wearing a red and white checkered long dress, her hair was simply braided and hung behind her. She turned to observe Shard, first looking him up and down, then said:
"Of course not sorted yet; I’ve only been away for a few days. But coming here is indeed necessary. However, before discussing the main matter, please let me express my surprise—does your home have such lively nights every day?"
"What? Oh, no no, I mean..."
Shard shook his head while sitting on the side sofa:
"You didn’t come here so late just to discuss this matter, did you?"
"Certainly not, but I have to remind you, and I’ve actually reminded you many times, that crime of passion is also one of the common causes of death among circle sorcerers.
This isn’t to frighten you; since you’re boldly walking the tightrope, you must foresee the possibility of falling."
Miss Danester looked at her student with a melancholy expression:
"Though absolutely flawless people don’t even exist, the flaw you’ve shown so far is only this one, but... let’s discuss the main matter. If I keep talking, I’ll feel like a nagging old lady."
She didn’t beat around the bush but directly asked:
"What happened with Emilia this morning?"
Shard had already decided to speak candidly, so he responded truthfully:
"Weren’t we dealing with that demon?
This morning, during the operation at the Belindel Big Bell in Moon Bay, when we lured the demon’s true form to the top of the tower, Emilia held the ’Night Watchman.’ I mean the ’Night Watchman’ borrowed from the God Summoner. Then somehow, after the sword was struck by a golden lightning bolt, it turned into a white light sword... That’s about it, but Emilia is definitely not The Chosen One now."
"Of course not, Miss Sianod’s lineage is clearly traceable, and this pureblood elf has no real connection to dragons. Her bloodline origins are no worse than the dragons."
Miss Danester said, picking up the teacup from the table:
"Explain the whole process of this event carefully, starting from your arrival at the Belindel Big Bell, I want to know the entire process of drawing the sword."
There’s not much to hide about the morning’s operation, as long as Dr. Schneider’s final move is left out and the origin of the ’Sure Hit Glass Bead’ is reasonably explained, everything else can be directly mentioned.
Shard believes the ladies downstairs were eavesdropping, so his explanation was very detailed. As for the three slashes Emilia threw, Shard, who was very close to the Elf Girl at the time, had an unusual experience:
"If Emilia’s target was me at that time, I couldn’t guarantee that I could definitely withstand those three slashes head on.
The Sword of Light is said to be ineffective against people of justice, but clearly, I am not absolutely just. In my perception, that pure light was even stronger than the exotic glimmer that could melt everything... Do you know about this?"
"Of course I do, an incident occurred in Saint Byrons just two days ago."
Miss Danester raised her brow slightly, and Shard was startled:
"What? In Saint Byrons?"
"Keep going, it has nothing to do with this incident, and nobody died, just an unlucky fellow lost a hand. The academy’s defense is far superior to that of ordinary people’s cities. The glimmer in the night... is not important."
"Alright. Compared to me, the demon evidently fears that sword more. I heard Emilia say that the sword possesses the trait of Space Lock. Once selected as a target, one can’t use spatial movement powers anymore.
However, that sword seems to have no resistance against time. Emilia said she felt the demon solidify time, but she just knew time had stopped; she couldn’t move in the stilled time herself."
The Red-Haired Sorceress finally showed a slight expression of surprise:
"I’ve only heard about the oldest evil spirits being able to stop time before, but this is indeed the first encounter.
However, Miss Sianod’s ability to perceive time stasis is likely due not only to the sword but to her own abilities as well. You should have heard that she is a high elf. The term high elf is used only to describe the descendants of the Tree Father’s or the Sage of Silvermoon’s priests."
Shard nodded:
"Aside from Space Lock, Emilia said the sword can achieve a certain degree of ’sure hit.’
But she believes this trait doesn’t belong inherently to the ’Sword of Light’ itself, but rather it enhances the power of the ’Night Watchman’ as base material. Emilia is a bit confused now, unable to clarify the information she received."
Shard paused, thinking these words somehow belittled Emilia:
"She said the traits the ’Sword of Light’ can exhibit, aside from those inherent to itself, are also related to the Holy Sword itself, which would amplify those special traits. For example, ’Night Watchman’ inherently possesses the ability to exorcise evil and offers the trait to help bearers who don’t particularly understand swordsmanship to wield it."
"It seems Miss Sianod doesn’t have a high talent for using that sword."
Miss Danester remarked:
"After the church shared the news of the ’Sword of Light,’ the Three Major Academies also gathered some information. Talented bearers often acquire a lot of information immediately, and Miss Sianod... barely qualifies."
"Besides that, there’s the issue of consumption. Emilia lay in bed for half the day and only woke up around three in the afternoon. However, she recovered fairly well and was able to walk around before dinner."
Miss Danester nodded again, and inquired about aspects Shard hadn’t mentioned, such as whether the ’Night Watchman’ itself underwent any changes subsequently or if Emilia changed in any way.
Upon finishing those inquiries, Shard brought up a new topic, slightly leaning forward to express his curiosity:
"It’s like this, I’ve also recently looked into some Sword of Light information. There’s a saying that the source of the arcane technique ’Moonlight Greatsword’ is originally the divine artifact forged by the Ancient God."
"Yes, there is indeed such a statement, but that’s not the mainstream view. What, did seeing the sword firsthand in the morning give you new insights into your own power?"
"No, not at the moment at least. I am merely curious, considering ’Moonlight Greatsword’ is the arcane technique I use most often.
If the source of ’Moonlight Greatsword’ or ’Sunlight Greatsword’ is truly the Sword of Light, might we be able to, through these two techniques or perhaps the rituals of Divine Arts, comprehend the drawing ritual of the Sword of Light?"
