Starting Today I'll Work As A City Lord
Chapter 819 - 816 Art of Balance
Chapter 819: Chapter 816 Art of Balance
"Ah, this is truly too delicious. To think that such exquisite delicacies exist in this world," Archbishop Yade licked his five fingers one by one, consuming every last drop of broth clinging to them.
"Is there any more?" Yade asked, still craving more as he put down the empty can and looked at Bishop Kailu.
"N-no more, there was only this one can," Kailu responded blankly.
"What a pity that there’s no more," Yade stroked his white beard, feeling deep regret.
"But there are other things. This seems to be the liquor mentioned in the letter, called Whispering Dawn," Kailu picked up a bottle of Whispering Dawn.
"Pour the wine." Yade’s initially somewhat cloudy eyes began to shine. Right now, he didn’t look like an Archbishop, but rather a drunkard.
In fact, Yade really was a drunkard. It was just that after so many years, he had grown sick of drinking the same few types of alcohol over and over again, eventually leading him to drink less and less.
Until today, the Whispering Dawn recorded in the letter piqued his interest. He hoped it would bring a surprise just like the canned meat had.
"Yes." Kailu felt his entire perception of Yade had been renewed. This was the first time he had seen the Archbishop lose his composure, and for food, no less.
Without another word, Kailu took out a cup, opened the Whispering Dawn, and filled the cup.
Instantly, a rich aroma of alcohol drifted out, permeating the entire room.
"Phew..." Kailu couldn’t help but take a deep breath. He silently swallowed a mouthful of saliva before handing the wine to Yade.
Gulp...
Yade’s Adam’s apple bobbed. After taking the wine cup, he first sniffed it carefully. It immediately awakened his restless taste buds, bringing back the feeling he used to get from heavy drinking.
"Mhm~ Good wine..." Yade did not hesitate and downed it in one gulp. As soon as the liquor entered his mouth, the unique, spicy kick of Whispering Dawn exploded, causing him to immediately break into a coughing fit.
"Cough, cough, cough..."
Kailu watched Yade looking both highly appreciative and coughing simultaneously. His throat bobbed continuously as he wondered inwardly if this wine was really that delicious.
"Excellent wine. I am starting to believe Parkin’s words a bit now," Yade marveled.
"..." Kailu’s heart sank, secretly cursing this bad turn of events. If Yade believed the letter, then competing for the Archbishop’s seat would become incredibly difficult for him.
"My Lord, we must consider this carefully. After all, that is the Siacan Kingdom," Kailu said with a serious expression.
"You can try this wine first," Yade shot a glance at Kailu.
"I..." Kailu’s expression shifted slightly. Unable to hold back, he poured himself a cup of Whispering Dawn.
He took a sip first, and his eyes went wide. He quickly downed the rest of the cup, smacking his lips with a look of awe on his face.
"How is it?" Yade asked calmly, the canned food broth on his white beard looking rather conspicuous.
Kailu drank his fair share of alcohol, even consuming the exclusive wines from the royal palace. But right now, he had to admit that this Whispering Dawn was the best wine he had ever tasted in his life. The wines he had drunk before were completely incomparable to this.
"The wine is excellent, but..." Kailu hesitated, still unwilling to give up and wanting to say more. However, seeing Yade’s icy eyes, he tactfully shut his mouth.
"The Siacan Kingdom is currently in chaos. This is precisely the time for our Luminous Creed to bestow grace upon those foolish commoners," Yade looked at Kailu with a smile.
"This..." Kailu opened his mouth but didn’t dare to argue.
"Hmph!" Yade snorted coldly.
He picked up the other items on the table and looked at them, exclaiming in surprise, "This is paper. A product capable of replacing parchment scrolls."
He was very clear on what the appearance of paper signified.
"It seems Sedona City is indeed very much worth moving into," A trace of greed flickered in Yade’s eyes.
"..." Kailu sighed inwardly. He knew he had lost the chance to hold Parkin back. The Archbishop was clearly tempted.
He just hadn’t expected that the usually highly respected Archbishop would be won over by a can of meat and a bottle of wine, choosing to make a move on an unknown Sedona City.
"You will take people to Sedona City to assist Parkin in developing believers and establishing a church," Yade looked at him and ordered indifferently.
He had seen right through Kailu’s inner thoughts a long time ago. But since he couldn’t leave the Yadian Kingdom himself right now, he could only send Kailu to investigate the truth of the matter. Furthermore, the two of them would balance each other out perfectly.
This way, neither would grow too dominant. Letting the two compete for the Archbishop’s seat was exactly what he wanted to see.
If it weren’t for the current Queen wanting to weaken the Luminous Creed’s rule and influence over the kingdom, he probably would have personally traveled to Sedona City.
In reality, Yade was furious inside. He had painstakingly supported the Holy Maiden to become the Queen of the Yadian Kingdom, only to have her turn around and choose to enact reforms to weaken the Luminous Creed’s influence.
’Since I could prop you up onto the throne, I can just as easily pull you back down.’
"Yes." Kailu was stunned at first, then overjoyed as he hurriedly agreed.
Kailu, who originally thought he had lost his chance, now had his hope rekindled. As long as he was sent to Sedona City, Parkin wouldn’t stand a chance.
He believed his own ability to cultivate believers was far superior to Parkin’s. Once he reached Sedona City, as long as he met Lucas, the construction of the church would be a done deal.
"Go. Take your men and hit the road as soon as possible. I hope you will not disappoint me," Yade looked at Kailu coldly and waved his hand.
"Yes," Kailu answered with absolute confidence. He turned and left, casting a reluctant glance at the Whispering Dawn before walking out.
"Sedona City... if it’s true, then it really is an excellent place," Yade muttered softly to himself as he watched Kailu close the door, a greedy glint in his eyes.
These items let him see mountains of gold coins. They could allow him to earn even more, making his family even wealthier.

After leaving the Grand Cathedral of the Divine Lord, Kailu immediately gathered the three Deacons under his command, along with over a hundred Guardian Knights, and began preparing supplies and luggage.
At dawn the next day, the group rode out of the Yadian Kingdom, galloping furiously in the direction of the Siacan Kingdom.
