Starting Today I'll Work As A City Lord

Chapter 818: Chapter 815 Frantically Eating
The Yadian Kingdom was a kingdom that revered the Luminous Creed. Seventy percent of the kingdom’s citizens were believers of the Luminous Creed, firmly believing in the existence of the Divine Lord in the world.
Therefore, within the Yadian Kingdom, a church of the Divine Lord was standard in every city. Even some villages and towns had them; it was merely a matter of size.
The Grand Church of the Divine Lord, which served as their headquarters, was built within the capital of the Yadian Kingdom, the Yaluo Capital.
It was a massive three-story cathedral, the largest building in the capital, named the Grand Cathedral of the Divine Lord. It could hold three thousand people simultaneously. Rumor had it that it took ten years to build this cathedral.
The funds for building this cathedral were entirely donated voluntarily by the citizens. A portion of it was even provided by the Royal Family, as the previous king was also a believer of the Luminous Creed.
This continued until this year, when the new Queen ascended the throne, and things began to change.
The highest authority of the Luminous Creed, the Archbishop, was an old man in his seventies. His power and prestige within the capital were arguably even higher than the current Queen’s. Even the newly appointed Queen could currently do nothing about him.
Below him were four Bishops, two men and two women. They were all over fifty years old, yet firmly grasped the power in their hands.
Among the four Bishops, aside from Bishop Parkin who had been away for a long time, the other three resided in the Grand Cathedral of the Divine Lord. On normal days, their main task was to ’inspire’ believers and ’point out the direction’ for them.
In layman’s terms, it was brainwashing them into believing what they said, tricking them into firmly believing that the Divine Lord existed.
Below the four Bishops were twelve Deacons. The twelve Deacons also had some Guardian Knights under their command, and below them were the believers.
On the very top floor of the Grand Cathedral, there was only one room. This belonged to Archbishop Yade. On ordinary days, he spent his time here.
Archbishop Yade was seventy-three years old this year. His hair was completely white, and he had a long, thick beard. On his head, he wore a tall hat made of cowhide, the symbol of the Archbishop.
At this moment, he was lying on a chair facing the window, his eyes narrowed as he basked in the sun.
Knock, knock, knock... A knocking sound suddenly came from outside the door.
"Come in," Archbishop Yade said in a deep voice, keeping his eyes closed.
Creaaak... A person wearing a black robe pushed the door open and walked in, carrying a wooden box in his arms. He slowly approached Archbishop Yade.
This person was Bishop Kailu, one of the four Bishops, an entity on the same level as Bishop Parkin.
"Lord Yade, a letter has arrived from Bishop Parkin," Bishop Kailu stated calmly, though a trace of fanaticism flickered in his eyes as he looked at Archbishop Yade.
"Read it," Yade commanded plainly, still without opening his eyes.
Kailu nodded, placed the box on a nearby table, and picked up a letter from inside it.
It was only when he picked up the letter that he realized in astonishment that the material it was written on wasn’t parchment.
"This..."
"What is it?" Yade asked lightly.
"N-nothing." Kailu tucked away the doubts in his heart and carefully opened the letter.
"Greetings, Honorable Archbishop Yade. This is Parkin. I am currently in Sedona City, in the western part of the Siacan Kingdom. This place makes me feel incredibly excited..." Kailu read the letter with an astonished expression. The contents left him shocked and doubtful.
The letter detailed what Parkin had seen and heard since arriving in Sedona City. He included all of the city’s miraculous and attractive aspects.
Aside from that, there were various exaggerated descriptions. The purpose, of course, was to persuade the Archbishop to send people to establish a presence in Sedona City.
"There are many delicious foods here—pizza, noodles, steamed buns, and so on. They are extremely delicious, thousands of times better than the cuisine of the Yadian Kingdom. There are also fifty-meter-long ships, a great bridge spanning the Whispering River, and even a Gold Coin Supermarket, where the items sold inside..."
Halfway through reading, Kailu finally learned that the material he was holding was called ’paper,’ which could replace parchment for writing.
"...I hope Archbishop Yade will dispatch personnel to establish a presence in Sedona City. If we are to expand the Luminous Creed, this will be the absolute best choice."
Having finished the entire letter, Kailu was still reeling, guessing at the authenticity of the information written within.
He turned to look at Yade’s calm face and immediately said mockingly, "Archbishop Yade... has Bishop Parkin gone mad?"
The four Bishops were currently in a competitive relationship because Archbishop Yade would soon step down. When that time came, the new Archbishop would be selected from among them.
It was precisely for this reason that Bishop Parkin had traveled far from the Yadian Kingdom to the Siacan Kingdom. He wanted to gather believers there and expand the Luminous Creed, hoping to use this as leverage to catch Archbishop Yade’s eye and be selected as the successor.
If everything Parkin said was true, then Sedona City really was highly suitable for expanding the Luminous Creed. They might even be able to build a new Grand Cathedral there.
If he succeeded, Parkin would very likely become the next Archbishop, completely sidelining Kailu.
"Let me see the items he had brought over," Yade slowly opened his eyes and sat up straight.
"Uh, yes..." Kailu didn’t dare object. He took the items out of the box one by one and presented them to Yade for inspection.
Among them were linen, canned food, liquor, and some small items like lollipops. At the very bottom was a small stack of paper.
Yade held the linen in his hand, rubbing it with his fingers. A look of astonishment flashed in his eyes. "This linen is indeed vastly superior to what is produced in our Yadian Kingdom."
Kailu reached out to touch it with suspicion, but his heart also filled with shock.
Yade set the linen aside. Using a small dagger, he painstakingly chipped away the yellow mud seal on the canned food. Instantly, a rich aroma of meat drifted out, filling the entire room.
"Smells amazing," Kailu couldn’t help but swallow a mouthful of saliva.
Yade couldn’t resist. He reached his hand into the can, pulled out a chunk of meat, and stuffed it into his mouth along with the juices.
"How can it be this delicious? This is the best thing I have ever eaten in my entire life," Yade murmured in exclamation. Unable to hold back, he repeatedly reached his hand into the can.
Yade, who originally hadn’t had much of an appetite, continued eating bite after bite. The soup dripped onto his clothes and his snow-white beard.
Meanwhile, Bishop Kailu was already staring blankly, swallowing hard. He also desperately wanted to taste it, but didn’t have the guts. Besides, Yade had already tilted his head back and drank all the remaining broth in the can.
