Chapter 817: Chapter 814 Alternate

On the morning of the second day after seeing off Florence, the new Mārātān shop next to the cold drink shop opened for business. At this time, Annie, Nicole, Catherine, and Helen, who was on her day off, were heading over together to inspect it.

This was Sedona City’s first Mārātān shop, and also the first Mārātān shop in this world.

The interior decoration was predominantly red. This time, the design was also created by Lucas, printed out, and given to the workers to follow for the renovation.

The floor tiles were patterned, looking like fiery red chili peppers. These were specially fired by the workshops.

Before Nicole and the others even went inside, the place was already packed with people. Not only that, but many chairs were set up outside, also full of people waiting for a seat.

The store manager this time was again selected from the castle’s maids, but the store clerks were all newly hired. After all, there were no secrets to Mārātān.

"It seems everyone is very curious about what Mārātān is. There are so many people on the first day of opening," Nicole marveled.

"This is all thanks to the Master’s newspaper advertisements. As long as it’s a newly opened shop, many people will definitely come to try it," Annie laughed.

"Miss Nicole, Miss Annie..." Seeing the group approach, the store manager quickly walked over and bowed in greeting.

"Are there any problems?" Nicole asked softly.

"No," The store manager nodded seriously.

Lucas’s design for this shop was actually quite similar to the Mārātān shops on Earth. On the first floor, there was a large shelf holding many woven bamboo baskets, each containing a different type of ingredient.

Some contained wild mushrooms from the Forbidden Mountains, some had wild vegetables, fish slices, and various other vegetables. Of course, mutton was indispensable. There were many varieties, all skewered on thin bamboo sticks.

Among these, vegetarian skewers were one steel coin each, while meat skewers were three steel coins each... The skewers weren’t huge, but they matched practical market prices.

Customers could take an empty bamboo basket and fill it with however much they wanted to eat, then take it to the front counter to calculate the price, paying first before enjoying their meal.

After checking out, each person would be given a wooden tag with a number written on it. At the same time, an identical wooden tag would be placed in the basket of selected ingredients, which would then be sent to the back kitchen to be cooked.

Once cooked, a clerk would deliver it to the corresponding customer’s table based on the number on the wooden tag, and collect the tag at the same time.

"Take us to the back kitchen to have a look," Nicole nodded and said gently.

"Yes, ma’am." The store manager led the way to the back kitchen.

The door to the back kitchen was also locked, leaving only two windows on the wall: one for passing ingredients in, and one for passing the cooked Mārātān out.

Annie and the others turned and entered the back kitchen. They could see several large pots resting on charcoal stoves, with broth boiling inside. Several people were busy working.

There were two types of soup pots, both about half a meter tall. One type was divided into eight compartments, with ingredients boiling in each. The other type of large pot was an enlarged version of a regular pot, containing bone broth simmered from beef bones. This was the soup base for the Mārātān.

Once the ingredients were cooked, they were scooped out into a bowl. Then, a rich sauce made from spices was added, followed by a large ladle of fragrant bone broth. A delicious bowl of Mārātān was thus complete.

"What are the customers’ reviews of the Mārātān like?" Nicole turned her head and asked.

"They are full of praise," The store manager said with a smile.

"That’s good. Pay attention to safety," Nicole nodded in satisfaction, then instructed, "Keep an eye on which ingredients sell best over the next few days. When the time comes, I’ll have people deliver more of them."

"Understood," The store manager replied.

"Nicole, why don’t we just eat here today?" Annie’s appetite was thoroughly stimulated as she watched bowls of Mārātān being served.

"Let’s go back to eat. If you want Mārātān, we can make it back at the castle. There are more varieties there, and the seasoning is even more fragrant," Nicole said softly.

"Okay, then let’s hurry back!" Annie quickly urged.

Outside the Mārātān shop, many people were already waiting. Many had come after reading the newspaper, wanting to try this new food shop. Moreover, among those queuing were some nobles and merchants who had been drawn in.

"I’m so stuffed. I’m definitely coming back next time, it’s just too delicious."

"Yeah, especially the broth, it’s so good. And it’s very cheap, a real bargain."

"Hehe... I even added some noodles, the taste was great too."

"..."

Some people who had just finished eating and walked out couldn’t help but sigh in admiration. Each of them sported a bulging belly and a look of deep satisfaction. They all decided to go back and tell their friends to come try it too.

"The City Lord has opened another food shop, but what exactly is Mārātān?" Ryan was at the very front of the line, and it would soon be his turn.

Today happened to be Ryan’s day off. His wife, Liza, had seen the newspaper, so he was kicked out of the house to buy Mārātān.

Soon, it was Ryan’s turn. He had been staring inside from the outside for a long time. Upon entering, he made a beeline for the ingredients section on the side, needing no guidance from the clerks on how to order.

Picking up a bamboo basket, Ryan started grabbing various ingredients.

"Mushrooms, give me three skewers. Mutton, five skewers. This wild vegetable looks pretty good too..." Ryan didn’t hold back. Only after grabbing over a dozen skewers did he approach the front counter in satisfaction.

"That will be a total of five copper coins. Would you like it spicy?" The store clerk asked politely after counting the number and types of skewers.

"Just a little spicy," Ryan nodded. He took out five copper coins and handed them to the clerk.

"Alright. This is your number tag. Please place it on your table. Someone will bring your food to you once it’s ready," The clerk smiled, handing Ryan a wooden tag while placing an identical one into the bamboo basket he had selected.

Ryan took the wooden tag, found an empty seat, and sat down. He glanced at the number ’57’ on the tag and began to wait.

"Customer number fifty-seven." About ten minutes later, a clerk shouted loudly.

Ryan hurriedly raised his hand and called out, "Here, over here!"

The clerk walked over carrying a large bowl, took away Ryan’s wooden tag, and said, "Please enjoy."

"Okay." Ryan picked up the chopsticks nearby and began taking massive bites. He ate until he was sweating, even ordering a bottle of iced drink. He ate with absolute delight.

"Delicious, so delicious... so satisfying..."

Burp~

Ryan drank the soup clean. Only then did he remember that he had forgotten to buy Mārātān for Liza. He quickly went back up to the front and began selecting ingredients all over again.
