Chapter 816: Chapter 813 Another Farewell

Inside Sedona Castle, in Lucas’s study, he was writing a plan.

Knock, knock, knock...

The study door was knocked.

"Come in," Lucas said calmly.

Creaaak...

The door pushed open, and Florence walked in, while Yuka and Lilith waited obediently outside.

"Ah, Florence. Have you enjoyed yourself these past few days?" Lucas looked at the mermaid with a smile.

"I had a wonderful time, thanks to everyone taking such good care of me," Florence smiled. "I am here today to say goodbye."

"So soon? Won’t you stay a few more days?" Lucas was very surprised. He hadn’t expected Florence to head back after being here for less than a week.

"When I left, I promised my father that I would return as quickly as possible," Florence looked a bit embarrassed.

She paused for a moment and continued, "Moreover, things at Mermaid Bay aren’t very peaceful right now. My father is highly likely to be elected as the King, and I might have to take over his position, so I can’t stay away for too long."

Another reason for Florence’s trip to Sedona City was to establish cooperation. After the pirates’ harassment, Mermaid Bay had suffered heavy losses. If she could secure a partnership with Sedona City, it would increase her father’s prestige and be of great help to his ascension to the throne.

If her father was successfully elected King, she would take over his position, becoming the General of Mermaid Bay, and simultaneously, the Princess of the Mermaid.

This status was practically set in stone already. The current King had announced his impending abdication, and the nobles all hoped Florence’s father would take the throne. The rest was merely a formality.

"I understand. If you ever need my help, send word anytime," Lucas nodded. He hadn’t realized Florence’s family background was so formidable that her father was in line for the throne.

"Hehe... Once the matters at Mermaid Bay are settled, I will come visit Sedona City frequently," Florence’s eyes grew slightly red as she forced a cheerful smile.

"Of course. Come whenever you’d like in the future; Sedona City will always welcome you," Lucas smiled warmly.

"Mhm, then I’ll be going now." Florence waved at Lucas, fighting back the sting in her nose, and turned to walk out.

"Go on. Say your goodbyes to Nicole and the others," Lucas waved his hand helplessly. Farewells always left people feeling a bit melancholic.

"Okay," Florence replied, reluctantly closing the study door behind her.

Creaaak...

She still had to go say goodbye to Nicole and the rest...

"Lady Florence, please don’t be sad," Lilith offered comforting words, seeing Florence’s sorrowful face.

Florence bit her lower lip, her face pulling into a bitter, utterly reluctant expression. "I’m not sad. It’s just that I won’t be able to eat Sedona City’s noodles, steamed buns, pizza, and hotpot for a long, long time..."

Hearing this, Lilith and Yuka couldn’t help but smile bitterly. So the food was the real main point!

But then again, Lilith and Yuka felt the exact same way. With so much delicious food in Sedona City, going back to Mermaid Bay would likely mean they’d have trouble adjusting to the food there.

Furthermore, what followed was the Mermaid King’s abdication ceremony, the new King’s coronation, and a series of other events. It would probably be a very long time before they could visit Sedona City again.

"Eh?! Florence, you’re leaving so soon?" Annie said, deeply reluctant.

In the castle’s main hall, Nicole, Annie, Catherine... everyone was there.

"Why not stay and have fun for a few more days?" Catherine asked softly.

She had been learning new pieces of music lately, preparing for an upcoming performance. She hadn’t expected Florence to leave the moment she finally had some free time today.

"There are matters to attend to at Mermaid Bay. My father instructed me to return early," Florence shook her head, her mood deflated.

"I see. What a shame, I was hoping to take you to try the Master’s newly opened food shop tomorrow," Annie reluctantly held the mermaid’s hand.

"What food?" Florence’s eyes lit up. She simply couldn’t control herself at the mention of food.

"I think it’s called Mārātān. Why don’t you stay one more day?" Annie’s mouth twitched. Sure enough, once Florence heard about food, everything else went out the window.

"I can’t. I’m afraid if I delay any longer, I won’t make it back in time for the grand ceremony. That would be a disaster," Florence ultimately suppressed her overwhelming desire to stay another day.

After all, when the succession ceremony began, if she—the soon-to-be princess—was absent, it would be a complete joke.

"I see..." Annie pouted. She really couldn’t persuade her any further after hearing that.

"But I’ll come visit you all frequently in the future. I’ll just come back to eat this Mārātān then," Florence said melancholically, making it hard to tell whether visiting them or eating Mārātān was more important to her.

"I’ll go pack some castle food for you to eat on your journey," Nicole stood up and turned to walk out.

The "castle food" naturally referred to delicacies only available within the castle, such as various delicious biscotti, lollipops, and other snacks that couldn’t be found outside.

"You absolutely must come visit often. I’m going to miss you," Helen held the mermaid’s hand.

"Let me play a song for you," Catherine smiled at Florence. She then picked up her violin nearby and began to play a new piece.

A sweet, beautiful melody plays...

Florence looked at Catherine with red eyes, deeply moved, and murmured softly, "It’s so beautiful."

As the beautiful melody slowly faded, Florence and Annie took the parcels Nicole had prepared, boarded the carriage together, and headed toward the port outside Sedona City.

Clop, clop, clop...

At the Sedona City port, bundles of linen were being loaded onto a large thirty-meter ship.

"I have to go now," Florence stood at the port, looking at the fox-eared girl in front of her.

She had been in Sedona City for a week. During this time, the goods had all been prepared. Now, they were just finishing loading the last bit of linen. Looking at the remaining amount, they would be ready to set sail in less than half an hour.

It was precisely because of this that Florence chose to leave today. After all, returning to Mermaid Bay from Sedona City by ship would take over a month.

"I will miss you," Annie said reluctantly.

"I’ll miss you too," Florence stepped forward and hugged Annie. Then, supported by Lilith, she boarded the ship. This was the cargo ship Lucas had provided to transport Florence’s goods. Once it delivered the goods to Mermaid Bay, it would bring the pearls back.

"Weigh anchor! Weigh anchor!!!"

"Hoist the sails! Hoist the sails!!"

Under the shipwrights’ operation, the vessel slowly began to sail out of the port. Standing on the deck, Florence waved to the fox-eared girl.

"..." Annie stood on the shore, waving back. They bid each other a silent farewell until the silhouette of the ship slowly vanished from her sight.
