Chapter 56: The Lost Child Has Returned (2)

The unexpected situation was enough to stop everyone in their tracks.

There was nothing above them, the body could have been hanging from.

They were in a clearing.

The body looked to have dropped from the sky.

But no one saw how.

There was only one way to explain all of this.

The body had fallen out of thin air.

Many stramge things had been happening since that trembling that shook the world.

But no one had ever heard of a body dropping out of thin air.

The body had landed between the two fighters.

The sudden interruption had disturbed the momentum of the strange creature.

The man who had staggered back, also had his attention turned to the body.

The strange creature observed the body for a while.

But seeing that it was not a threat, his attention returned to its opponent.

Its momentum might have been disturbed, but it was still furious.

With renewed intent, it charged at the man.

The man also seemed to have regained his bearing.

He watched calmly as the stramge creature charged at him.

His forehead began to shine with a dim golden light.

He activated his bloodline.

That didn’t deter the strange creature.

It crossed over the body.

Uncaring for its condition.

Its body went through a change.

Phantoms of shoots and leaves appeared around it.

The phantom grew larger with every moment that passed.

The man also didn’t wait.

He charged at the strange creature.

Strength collided against strength.

The two fighters engaged each other in a deadly duel.

Their limbs moved in a blur, as they attacked.

The man’s body now had a rocky sheen to it.

His fists smashed into the strange creature’s body.

The strange creature also returned the favor.

Both combatants were tough.

They pitted the raw strength of their bodies against each other.

They had no concern for the body that had dropped out of the sky.

No matter how they fought, it didn’t move.

The man was probably dead already.

The two fought to their hearts’ content.

The one who held back here, would surely die.

This was a fight to the death, after all.

Everyone watched as the fight became even more heated.

But what was surprising, was that no matter how the land around the two fighters was destroyed further.

The body which had fell out of nowhere remained untouched.

It remained still.

Undisturbed.

Neither the rocks, nor the dirt touched it.

Most of the adventurers here could still catch glimpses of how the fight was going.

But not the team members.

Their cultivation was just too low.

They turned to the only thing they could observe.

The body on the ground.

He was dressed in black robes.

They couldn’t see the his face, it was turned away from them.

But since the body was all they could see, they tried to observe if there was anything special about it.

They couldn’t find any such thing.

All they saw, was that it was a human’s body.

That was all. Nothing else.

The battle between the two fighters didn’t stay in one place.

They moved around.

Forcing everyone to move back even further.

They now had the whole clearing to themselves.

There was also the body, which remained still.

The team members slowly turned their attention from the body.

There were many more things that required their attention.

Like their survival for one.

But Sofia continued observing.

She didn’t know why, but something about that man lying there drew her attention.

She felt he was familiar.

The man and the strange creature still continued their fight.

The man was slowly gaining the upper hand.

Ever since he activated his bloodline

The strange creature had been losing ground.

But he hadn’t gained a definite advantage yet.

The man waited for the right moment.

He knew one would surely come soon.

The strange creature tripped.

It was unexpected.

But in a fight like theirs, where everyone moved in a blur.

That was a fatal mistake.

The man capitalized on the moment.

He activated a new technique, and attacked the strange creature.

He pinned it down with his body.

The strange creature squirmed, but it was no use.

The man’s body had now become as heavy as a mointain.

Sofia watched as the body which had been still, slowly turn.

It was like the man had turned in his sleep.

He changed from lying on his back, to rest on his side.

Then she saw his face.

Her heart skipped a beat, her eyes widened in disbelief.

This was a face she knew.

The demon had tripped over him, yet he remained safe.

He was beside the two fighters.

The strange creatures had been pinned dowm by the man, and now its face was pummeled.

The man’s hands moved in a blur as his fists rained down on the strange creature.

Sofia didn’t know what took over her.

She left the relative safety of her current position, and ran towards where the body lay.

Mia had been praying for the man to win.

If he lost, there was no way for them to survive this.

She hoped to the heavens that at least this once, they accepted her prayers.

She was jolted from her thoughts, when she saw a sight that shocked her speechless.

Sofia was running towards where the two limit breakers were fighting.

Mia wondered what had gone wrong with the woman’s head.

Then she saw the body that now had its face turned towards her.

She froze.

Sofia rushed towards the body.

She was lucky.

There was nothing flying around this time.

With one of the two fighters pinned down, there wasn’t much that could fly around.

She reached the body, when a shriek pierced through the air.

The strange creature under the man had let out a sharp shriek.

The other strange creatures, that remained at one side, also let out the same piercing shriek.

Sofia covered her ears, as she knelt beside the body.

The man in black robes didn’t seem to be affected, he continued to sleep.

The man who had been pummeling the strange creature knew this was a bad sign.

The damned thing was calling for help.

He redoubled his effort in pummeling the strange creature.

If he could kill it, and get everyone out of here before its reinforcement arrived.

That would be the best.

But the strange creature seemed to have gained extra energy from heavens knew where.

Its struggle became fiercer.

A sharp shriek sounded.

It wasn’t from any of the strange creatures present.

The man knew he was out of time, but he couldn’t bear to leave this strange creature alive.

But the damned thing was just too tough to deal with.

He was about to kick the damned thing one last time, and leave.

When a new aura appeared.

The new aura surpassed the combined aura of the two combatants.

The man knew this situation had gotten out of hand.

The new strange creature that appeared, seemed to be made of thorns.

The moment it appeared, it didn’t care for anything else.

It simply attacked.

Its thorns shot in the direction of the two combatants.

Sofia, who happened to be in the way, could do nothing much.

The moment the strange creature appeared, her body wrapped around the man in black robes.

She awaited the feeling of the thorns piercing her body.

She felt this wasn’t a bad way to go.

She waited.

But nothing came.

No pain.

No impact.

Was she already dead?

She gathered the courage to look behind her.

The thorns, sharp as they were.

All of them were frozen in the air.

She didn’t know why, but her eyes immediately turned to the man she held close.

His eyes were open.

Then he blinked once.

She felt a wind sweep through the clearing, lightly brushing her hair.

She looked behind her again.

The thorns were gone.

It was the same with the strange creature.

Gone.

She looked around.

None of the strange creatures remained.

All of them gone.

She looked towards the man who had pinned down the strange creature.

He now sat on the ground, shocked.

There was nothing beneath him.
