Chapter 97 | The Saber-Tooth Tiger
Chapter 97: 97 | The Saber-Tooth Tiger
"This place is clear."
Andrew spoke.
John stared at Andrew for several seconds. Then slowly smiled. "You might be the best investment Principal Constance ever forced onto my team."
Michael burst into laughter and Jasmine walked over and wrapped an arm around Andrew’s shoulder. Her body pressed against him naturally as she kissed his cheeks and muttered in a slurry voice. "I beginning to like you more and more."
Lucy looked at Andrew strangely. Even Klen adjusted his glasses.
Nobody said it aloud, but everyone had realized one thing. Andrew was far more useful than they had imagined. And perhaps far more dangerous too.
After escaping the Iron-Armed Monkey territory, the six of them finally settled inside the cave Andrew had found.
Fortunately, the cave was dry, spacious, and showed no signs of any monster habitation, it was a afe enough for temporary shelter.
Michael immediately crouched down and grinned. "Let’s eat."
He reached into his storage ring. A flash of light appeared. The massive corpse leg of the Iron Fang Rabbit dropped onto the cave floor.
Andrew blinked. So they really wish to eat the beast meat.
Michael laughed loudly. "What? You think we only kill monsters and sell them?"
Jasmine chuckled. "High-level beast meat is nutritious. Sometimes people pay ridiculous prices just for one serving."
Soon, a bonfire was lit and the large rabbit leg was skewered over the flames. Fat dripped downward. The smell of roasted meat slowly filled the cave. Even Andrew felt his stomach growl slightly.
After several minutes, the meat was done. Michael carved it into equal portions.
Everyone received their share.
Because of their size and appetite, Andrew and Michael were naturally given slightly larger pieces.
The others immediately noticed.
John smirked. "Well..." He glanced between Andrew and Michael. "You two seem capable of eating a lot."
Michael’s eyes immediately lit up. "Wait..." He leaned forward excitedly. "Does that mean we can eat the remaining legs too?" For one second, hope shone in his eyes.
Then John deadpanned. "Of course not."
Michael froze.
John folded his arms. "What exactly do you think we’re selling when we get back? We still owe the Ultra Association twenty percent."
Michael coughed awkwardly. "Right... Forgot about that."
Everyone burst into laughter.
Andrew quietly blinked. Truthfully, he had also been about to ask for another leg. Jasmine immediately noticed his expression. She leaned closer with an amused smile. "You wanted to ask too, didn’t you?"
Andrew glanced sideways. "Ask what?" He calmly returned to eating, as if nothing had happened.
Jasmine simply laughed softly.
After everyone finished eating, John’s expression gradually became serious. The mood shifted again. He poked the bonfire with a stick before speaking.
"Alright. Our objective for the rest of today changes."
Everyone looked toward him.
John continued calmly. "We only hunt low-level monsters. Anything ranging between Level Twenty to Level Twenty-Five." He paused. "Maximum... Level twenty nine."
The others nodded. Then John looked directly at Andrew. "As for beasts below Level Twelve..." He pointed at him. "We leave those to you."
Andrew blinked, slightly surprised. As a normal Level Seven Ultra, he technically shouldn’t be able to handle a Level Twelve beast. But these people had already seen his S-Rank license. And more importantly, they had seen him kill an Iron-Armed Monkey by himself earlier. John clearly trusted his combat ability.
Andrew nodded. "I can handle it."
John smiled. "Good." He stood up. "Then we move."
He pointed toward the forest entrance. "We hunt only within a hundred-kilometer radius. If we move deeper than that, we’ll begin encountering beasts above Level Thirty." He tightened his sword. "And that’s unnecessary risk."
Everyone nodded. Then the team began moving once more.
As they advanced, John gave Andrew a new task. "Use your vision talent. Scan every five minutes. Report monster locations."
Andrew nodded obediently. Outwardly, he activated his fake talent, E-Rank Zoomable Eyes. But internally, Omniscient Perception was already active.
Three kilometers. Everything entered his awareness. He could sense dozens of beasts. Some weak. Some dangerous. Some moving. Some hiding underground.
And at the far edge of his perception, he saw them again. The Iron-Armed Monkey pack. Over a hundred beasts or Maybe closer to two hundred beasts and standing at the center, the gigantic Iron-Armed Monkey King. They had reached the exact location where the team had slaughtered the previous twelve monkeys.
Andrew frowned slightly but dismissed it. Probably migration behavior or territorial response. He thought nothing more of it.
Then he resumed scouting. Several times he directed the team around dangerous territories. Sometimes guiding them toward prey. Sometimes warning them away from danger.
Then, a few minutes later, Andrew suddenly stopped. "There’s something ahead."
John immediately looked over. "What kind?"
Andrew focused. "A Three-Headed Hound. Level Twenty-Nine." He narrowed his eyes. "It’s near a lake. It’s currently feeding."
Everyone immediately became alert. John nodded. "Battle formation."
They moved forward cautiously. Michael at the front. John and Lucy beside him. Andrew protected in the middle. Jasmine slightly behind. Klen at the rear.
While walking, Klen had already begun preparing a spell. Blue magical circles slowly rotated around his fingertips.
Slowly and carefully, they approached the lake. And finally, they saw it.
The beast stood near the water. Roughly two meters tall. Its body resembled a gigantic hellhound. Three monstrous heads, dark crimson fur, glowing magma-like veins ran across its entire body, like molten lava flowing beneath skin.
One head was currently tearing apart a dead creature near the shore, its jaws dripping blood and the other head drinking water while the third head was staring transfixed into the lake.
John slowly raised his hand, preparing the attack.
But suddenly, one of the three heads froze. Then all six glowing eyes snapped backward. It had sensed them.
John’s eyes sharpened. "Attack immediately!"
Michael moved first. He inhaled deeply, opened his mouth and—
"ROOOOOOAAAAR!"
aviolent shockwave exploded outward exploded from his mouth, distorting the air around him as he actuavted his aggro skill.
"Magnetic Roar."
An aggro-forcing technique.
Instantly, all six eyes of the Three-Headed Hound locked onto Michael. The beast stomped violently, then shot forward like a bullet.
Michael roared and charged too.
"Bang!"
Both bodies collided head-on. Andrew expected Michael to be sent flying.
But surprisingly, Michael only staggered slightly backward. The beast itself paused momentarily. That tiny opening was enough.
Klen immediately released his spell.
"Crackle!"
Lightning surged downward. But the beast suddenly activated a skill. Its entire body transformed into blazing magma.
Then it vanished.
"Bang!"
The lightning struck empty ground.
Andrew’s eyes widened. The beast had teleported.
It suddenly reappeared behind them, its claws already descending toward Klen intending to smash him to pieces.
"Rooooooar!"
But Michael reacted instantly. He roared again. Magnetic Roar! The beast’s body froze. Its claw halted inches from Klen’s neck and its six eyes immediately snapped back toward Michael.
Then it flashed again, appearing before Michael.
"Bang!"
With another violent collision, Michael staggered backward, letting the beast pause for 0.2 seconds but that was enough.
"Lighting strike!"
Rumble!
Klen released lightning again and it landed on the beast who had just recovered.
The beast’s body instantly froze and it was paralyzed for one second.
John roared. "NOW!"
Lucy vanished first. Her blades became silver flashes. Jasmine’s axe struck next.
Then John activated his skill. His body suddenly split. One. Two. Three. Three identical versions of himself appeared instantly. Andrew’s eyes widened slightly.
’An illusion skill or cloning skill?’
All three Johns rushed forward simultaneously as they attacked with a flurry of strikes as much as a second could fit.
Within that one second, everyone unleashed everything. And when paralysis ended, the Three-Headed Hound trembled and collapsed as it died.
"Phew! That was intense!" Jasmine heaved a sigh of relief.
Klen pursed his lips. "You’re talking as though you’re the one who almost died."
Jasmine rolled her eyes.
Andrew stared at the team, genuinely impressed. Their coordination was truly terrifying. Everyone complimented each other and there was wasted movement or hesitation. Each person understood exactly what role to play. This was what a real hunting team looked like.
Then they moved again after storing the beast.
Several minutes later, Andrew discovered another target. "Level 11. Iron Beak Falcon."
John smiled. "Perfect." He looked at Andrew. "Your turn."
The beast sat perched on a branch.
Andrew moved forward confidently as he approached the beast.
The moment he approached it, the falcon attacked first and its sharp beak cut through the air.
"Whoosh!"
It’s speed was so fast it caused the air to explode and screech.
Andrew’s eyes flashed and he immediately sidestepped, then raised his blade and countered instantly.
"Bang!"
His blade struck its wing, causing the falcon to screeched violently in pain. Andrew activated Flowing Phantom. The world turned black and white as eveeyhh to inv allowed down.
He immediately walked tk the neck of the beast and struck out.
But before Andrew could finish, the beast activated its skill.
"Wind Dash!"
It’s body blurred, then instantly flew high into the sky. Andrew stared upward helplessly as the beast disappeared into the distance.
Everyone was stunned and then Michael burst out laughing. Lucy smirked slightly and even John chuckled. Andrew frowned.
Behind him, Jasmine suddenly wrapped an arm around his shoulder. "Don’t worry. You’ll get another one soon."
Andrew pouted slightly. Jasmine stared at his face, then smiled mischievously. "Oh... You’re actually adorable."
Before Andrew could react, she leaned down and pecked his lips.
Everyone casually ignored it.
Andrew stood frozen. Inside, his thoughts turned chaotic.
Is this sexual harassment?
A second later, he shrugged internally.
Well... I’m not exactly losing out here.
They continued moving deeper. And that was when Andrew noticed something. At the edge of his Omniscient Perception, the monkey pack. They were slowly moving toward their direction and their current distance was about two kilometers.
Andrew frowned. Coincidence? Maybe they’re simply migrating. He dismissed it for now.
Then suddenly, another monster entered his perception. Andrew stopped walking. "There’s something ahead."
John turned. "What level?"
Andrew focused. Then his expression changed slightly. "Thirty-One."
The entire team froze. "What monster?"
Andrew answered slowly. "Elite Saber-Toothed Tiger."
Immediately, everyone’s expressions changed. That was above their planned hunting range and it was an Elite grade monster to boot. John immediately spoke.
"We leave."
But Andrew suddenly spoke again. "There’s more." Everyone turned. Andrew narrowed his eyes. "Two cubs."
Everyone stared at him.
Andrew continued. "They look less than three days old."
The entire atmosphere changed.
Michael’s eyes widened. Lucy’s cold expression finally cracked. Jasmine inhaled sharply and even Klen stopped moving.
John slowly turned back toward the forest ahead.
Everyone knew what this meant. A living Saber-Toothed Tiger cub could sell for absurd amounts. Two cubs, at minimum, two hundred million each. Possibly more. Five hundred million. Maybe even seven hundred million if sold properly.
Michael swallowed hard. "That’s... a fortune."
John remained silent. Then finally, he looked at the team. "We vote. Fight... or leave."
There was silence among them.
Lucy immediately spoke. "We leave."
Klen nodded. "Too dangerous."
John crossed his arms. "I’m neutral."
Michael grinned greedily. "I say fight."
Jasmine twisted her sexy waist and smirked.
"Fight."
Then they all turned to Andrew.
